‘Modern Comedian’ Profiles Beth Stelling and Her Love of Sweets and Subsequent Dental Work

May 30, 2013
Uncategorized
beth stelling, modern comedian, pbs, scott moran

The self-imposed nickname “Sweet Beth” for the very funny Beth Stelling comes from Beth’s predilection towards sweet foods. In fact, she has had extensive dental work done because of that as featured on this latest episode of Scott Moran’s Modern Comedian.

Apparently, it’s hard to reconcile having a sweet tooth as a comedian with little to no dental insurance.

The amazing, endearing, and very funny ‘Kings of Summer’ hits theaters in select cities today and you shouldn’t miss any chance to go see it (see showtimes here). So far, for us, it’s this year’s coming of age comedy and we really hope it gets to make it to more theaters soon.

Here’s a trailer if you’re for some reason not familiar with all of this.

Also, there will be a Q&A screening moderated by Jonah Ray with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and cast at ArcLight at 9:30PM.

The ‘That’s Not Funny’ Documentary Is Giving Another Go at Kickstarter

Director Mike Celestino fell short of his first try at Kickstarter with his great documentary project “That’s Not Funny”, a dissecting of what’s offensive in comedy. Thankfully, he’s giving it another go with a slightly different approach, by raising a smaller amount of money to go throughout a city like LA to do interviews and more.

This was a very intriguing project when we first saw it and has a lot of great and qualified people (Paul Provenza, Greg Proops, Jackie Kashian, Kyle Kinane, and more) to comment on the topic of where the line is or if there is even a line in comedy, so we recommend you donate if you can to make it happen.

Here’s a List of Film Festivals That Will Accept Your Shorts, Series, Sketches, and More If They’re Already Online

With the proliferation of sites like YouTube, Vimeo, and Funny or Die, it’s hard to gauge as someone who makes funny short films, sketches, web series, etc. whether it’s better to distribute your content online or try taking it to the festival circuit first. Several festivals immediately disqualify it if it’s already posted online making that a tough decision, but that is starting to change as this list as the link above shows.

You’ll have to listen to the episode for the million dollar idea, which, FYI, is, for all intensive purposes, is protected (i.e. don’t even try taking it).
