Ali Wong Set to Publish a Book of Collected Letters to Her Daughter

Random House and Ali Wong have a struck deal for Ali’s first book, which will feature stories and lessons that Ali has learned throughout her life. All of that will be within the frame of letters to her baby daughter.

With Ali’s unapologetic brand of comedy, the letters might just be as satisfying to her daughter as any and all readers that pick up a copy.

The book doesn’t have a title yet, but it will be released sometime in 2018.

Brightly shining comedy stars WIll Forte and Abbi Jacobson have each just come out with their own illustrated books that speak their truth in their own specific, unique comedic voice.

For Will, he made very simple, but effective drawings of what not to do if you’re interested in picking up the chicks. He collected many of these drawings from earlier in his career and put them together in 101 Things To Definitely Not Do If You Want To Get a Chick”.

Jacobson highlighted her design acumen in Carry This Book by illustrating what she thinks various celebrities from Beyonce to Trump carry with them on a daily basis. Her brightly colored drawings have plenty of jokes packed in each page not unlike you’d see in the production design of animated series such as The Simpsons or BoJack Horseman.

Both would make for a great holiday gift or just a nice treat to yourself right now.

There may be very few people that are as high in status, revered, and have as many insane stories in comedy quite like Norm MacDonald.

Even as a “tell some” book, Norm’s still got a wild ride of a life through SNL, stand-up, insane gambling debts, etc. that probably could make for a whole series of books.

All of that is captured on the page by Norm himself in Based on a True Story, which just happens to be now available from Random House Books.

Bob Odenkirk to Write a Book of Personal Essays

Odenkirk actually thinks of this more as a ‘comic bildungsroman’, which is a label that’s more often applied to coming-of-age stories in a much more dramatic sense.

Still, Odenkirk worked his way up to be a cult comedy legend then transitioned into being a celebrated dramatic actor and that journey will be an undeniably engrossing one.

We’ll also be curious to see how, if at all, meta he gets in this first book.

No matter how you feel about SNL these days, Lorne Michaels changed comedy forever and definitely needs a book written just about him.

While there are plenty of books that give the back story and ins and outs of SNL, there isn’t really a proper, in-depth biography of Michaels who not only is the driving force behind SNL, but also Kids in the Hall, Late Night, and more as well as an entire generation of comedy whose effects will be felt for many years to come.

A biography on Lorne Michaels has finally been set to be written by The New Yorker’s Susan Morrison and published by Random House.

Whenever it comes out, we’re sure it’ll feature plenty of stories that have yet to be told in full on comedy podcasts.

Norm MacDonald Memoir “Based on a True Story” Coming Out in 2016

Just based on title alone, it’s kind of an appropriate follow-up to Me Doing Stand-Up.

If there’s someone that’s got a hell of a story for a memoir, it’s comedian Norm MacDonald. Norm is almost as known with his back-and-forth relationship with the entertainment biz as he is for being downright funny.

Random House’s Spiegel & Grau is set to publish Based on a True Story in 2016 and it will indeed track the roller coaster of a career that Norm has had.

Though the title just might be ironic, we wonder if Norm would put anything fictional in his memoir and, if so, what it would be. Perhaps, it would be that perfect joke he has been seeking where the set-up and punchline are one in the same?
