Make Kyle Kinane’s “Whiskey Icarus” What You’re Watching Tonight

11PM on Comedy Central tonight, Kyle Kinane’s new stand-up hour “Whiskey Icarus” premieres and at that time, apparently, Kinane will be in the mountains. Let’s all watch, because Kyle is one of the funniest comics working right now, tonight and wish him well though he may not have reception or wi-fi.

Also, if you miss it tonight, you can buy it extended and uncensored this Tuesday Nov. 27th.

Dylan Moran Stopping By Largo on U.S. Tour

Very funny Irish comedian Dylan Moran is returning stateside for a tour and luckily is making a two night visit to LA at none other than Largo at the Coronet Theatre. If you’re unfamiliar with his stand-up or his TV show “Black Books”, making him quite the name across the pond, then please spend this Sunday afternoon familiarizing yourself his dark, smart, observational humor. 

Tues. Dec. 11th & Wed. Dec. 12th 8PM @ Largo is when you should make sure you’re free to see the show.

Jenny Johnson Manages to Get Chris Brown To Suspend His Twitter Account For a Few Hours

Yesterday, Jenny Johnson known to much of the Internet as @JennyJohnsonHi5, comedy writer & renowned celebrity satirist on Twitter, called out Chris Brown for a graphically and sexually demeaning tweet to, no surprise, women. Following that, a fight over Twitter ensued in which Chris Brown, also no surprise here, continued to tweet the same type of sexually demeaning insults toward Jenny Johnson, then declared, in so many words, that he is kidding and “won”.

Of course, Johnson, who professionally satirizes the lives of ridiculous celebrities, would not back down and went back and forth with Brown, until, we’re guessing, someone on his legal team or his crew told him he should shut his Twitter account down.

It’s now back up.

None of this should be a surprise to you as Chris Brown has barely, if at all, made an attempt to calm his public persona as, every few weeks or so, is reported to do something that further enrages the public like his Halloween costume. Yesterday he tweeted, in his defense, “Further proved my point of how immature society is. #CarpeDiem” We’re going to go ahead and say that demeaning women even, possibly, with a layer of irony so thick you couldn’t lay into it with a mini-gun is not pointing out how immature society is. 

Also, if carpe diem, to you, means “shitting on the retina”, then maybe you should know that carpe diem means “seizing the day”, not saying gross things on Twitter with relatively little consequence outside of people on the Internet getting mad at you. Yes, there are comedians who talk about shitting on the eye and do it in a funny way, extending the conversation about sexual proclivities in our society in a way where we don’t have to be ashamed to talk about it. The same goes with sex experts, therapists, etc.

Note how Chris Brown is none of those things and does not accomplish what he claims to do. He’s never been funny and everything he’s said about sex seems, in of itself, to be pretty immature.

Of course, we have freedom of speech in the U.S. and as the Internet has shown, that freedom is used pretty much to its fullest extent, even when it barely seems justified. It should stay that way despite the lack of tact with what Chris Brown or any other bigot with a huge following says because we are all free to call them out, comedians, comedy writers, especially, as they should be.

Watch This Whole Episode of Conan Even Though The Show Went Long and Jon Dore Did Not Get to Perform

The panel interviews with Mel Brooks and Kristen Schaal are lovely featuring stories of unintentional extras in Blazing Saddles and llama filled weddings, so much so that the whole show went too long to have a set from Jon Dore. This Episode of Modern Comedian with Sean Patton is About Hollywood vs. Brooklyn, Not LA vs. NYC

We love Sean Patton and his comedy as well as Scott Moran’s web series “Modern Comedian” and we’re very glad that the two crossed paths and had this latest episode of the series touching on neighborhoods and how it affects a comedian and their process.

That being said, there’s a lot of LA hate in this from Patton, which, if you’re observant enough, is pretty much relegated to Hollywood, specifically Hollywood Blvd. The NYC portion features the coolest parts of Brooklyn. To put it in perspective, a similar take could have been made in the reverse comparing Times Square to Los Feliz/Silverlake/Echo Park. The bigger point here, we think, is that the environs of an artist are both crucial and integral to their art. Seldom few other artistic media rely so heavily upon your surroundings and trying to understand, process, and ultimately make fun of your experiences no matter how real or absurd they end up being like comedy does. So, before you go writing off Sean’s hatred of Hollywood or this episode, which does have credence to it and he makes great jokes out of, know, first off, there are parts of LA that Sean does love (Moran assured us of this), and any city that hits around the 10 million people mark is bound to have a lot of things in it worthy of bitching about.

In regards to the Vice magazine piece recently written by a UK transplant (which Death and Taxes has a good response to), we’ll say this: LA is not like wherever you’re from, just like any city that isn’t the city where you’re from, so before you go saying LA is the worst place on the planet, just think about living in the majority of places in Africa where the death rate is the highest on the planet.
