A “Roseanne” Revival Is Being Shopped Around Right Now

The original cast of Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, and Sara Gilbert are on board for bringing back Roseanne. This revival is indeed being shopped around various networks and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if it found a home pretty fast.

While we can really feel this reboot/revival fatigue setting in, especially with TV these days, a sitcom of the 21st century Roseanne (you know, the one that keeps running for President) and an even more hardboiled, Coen Brothers-esque John Goodman is something we’d be up for.

Such a thing might be unlikely, but you can’t really tell what reboots/revivals will bring these days (i.e. the Archie-based TV series Riverdale hardly resembles your dad’s Archie comics).

In Typical Wes Anderson Fashion, The First Poster for His Animated Dog Movie “Isle of Dogs” Is Charming as Can Be

Next year’s 4/20 might just be a little less about weed and a little more about the color and symmetry coordinated charm of Wes Anderson’s latest work, Isle of Dogs.

The first poster is a pretty strong indication, in our opinion, that’ll happen.

Conan O’Brien may never get “really good” at playing video games, but he will always be unmatched on making the lulls in any video game endlessly entertaining.

Watch as he does that again, brilliantly, with the new VR title Wilson’s Heart on the latest Clueless Gamer.

The critically acclaimed intercontinental dark romantic comedy, Catastrophe, is back for a third go and we can only hope that you’re as excited as we are to see how Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan make a mess of things this time.

So, if you don’t have Amazon Prime already, three seasons of Catastrophe (plus Transparent and Fleabag amongst other things) would be a pretty good reason to sign on.

Modern Family’s Danny Zuker Imagines What a Trump White House Correspondents Dinner Speech Might Be Like

Since Trump will not be attending this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner probably because he gets his ego and feelings hurt enough on a daily basis, Danny Zuker, writer and EP on Modern Family, has done us all a favor and whipped up a version of Trump’s speech might be like.

Here’s a fun excerpt:

“Melania couldn’t be here tonight because she’s already been in the same room with me this month and a deal’s a deal! I’m kidding. We’re very much in love. Thank you. It’s very physical and tender. (Hold for the audience to say “awwww” for five minutes.)”

When reading it, you might think it might be overdoing it, but then we’d urge you to revisit Trump’s “performance” at the Al Smith Dinner and see how potentially close to reality this piece could have been.

Jill Soloway’s new Amazon series I Love Dick will be screening in its entirety at Cinefamily this Sunday. Also, Jill, star Kathryn Hahn, and novelist Chris Kraus will be on hand at the event.

The screening is free, but first come, first served with priority entry to Cinefamily Black Card members.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime, this would be a pretty great opportunity to not even use any sort of free trial of Amazon Prime and watch the show. Get more details here.

Hopefully, this means that one of the Smithsonian museums will have a whole exhibit/database dedicated to Diller’s jokes.

Jesse Eisenberg To Star In, Write and Direct a Single Camera Comedy About the Tragedy of Our Current Job Market for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot

Could this be a possible spiritual sequel to Adventureland?

It’s most likely not anything of the sort, but we’re excited to see Eisenberg get a role that’s more along these lines as opposed to playing supervillain, Lex Luthor.

TV Series Adaptation of ‘Wag the Dog’ Is in the Works at HBO

TV Series Adaptation of ‘Wag the Dog’ Is in the Works at HBO

Barry Levinson, who directed the 1997 film, Wag the Dog, is attached as director and executive producer of this project while in development.

As we’re 20 years in to the future, HBO wisely will be approaching this as “…an ode to the classic film but moving the weapons of mass distraction beyond politics and into business, entertainment and, yes, nonprofits. In the 21st century with the tools of social media at their hands, nothing is off limits to a small group of operators when it comes to manufacturing reality.“

As HBO’s last political comedy, The Brink, didn’t really get off the ground how they would have liked it to, we’re guessing this is another stab at having something that can be in the same ballpark with Veep while Veep’s on hiatus.

Also, the green light of the series would further the recent trend of mining TV shows from past movies (Lethal Weapon, Dear White People, Scream). Remember, it wasn’t too long ago where “six seasons and a movie” was the dream for TV shows.

The President Show with Donald Trump (as Expertly Portrayed by Anthony Atamanuik) Premieres Tonight

It’s a bigly night for television this evening as POTUS Trump (Anthony Atamanuik) will be commencing his own late night series, The President Show, at 11:30PM on Comedy Central.

One can only hope that Trump will obsessively watch this and tweet about it instead of signing any more executive orders or thinking about leaving NAFTA.

Here are some hot mic outtakes to keep you occupied until then.

BET Is Getting Their Own Late Night Show Hosted by Robin Thede and Produced by Chris Rock

BET Is Getting Their Own Late Night Show Hosted by Robin Thede and Produced by Chris Rock

It’ll be called The Rundown with Robin Thede and air weekly with 24 episodes on BET. Thede was the head writer for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and a frequent panelist and Chris Rock is, well, Chris Rock.

There are a lot of developments that we’re curious to see play out here.

First, BET isn’t a place that anyone has associated with late night, but the tides of late night on cable over the last few years have encouraged networks to throw their hat in the ring.

Second, weekly late night shows are growing in number every other week, it would seem, and we hope this isn’t the case of a bubble growing only to burst.

Third, Comedy Central has a Franchesca Ramsey (another Nightly Show alum) show in the works that, if picked up, will undoubtedly have to deal with comparisons to Thede’s show. For that, the strategy of either show will be very interesting.

Fourth, this means late night will now have Trevor Noah, Desus & Mero, Tavis Smiley, and Robin Thede as hosts and thus making late night seem much less white than it was just a couple of years ago.

We be excitedly waiting through the summer to see indeed what happens.

While Big Brother magazine was a trailblazing magazine for skateboarding, it was also a platform from which a whole subculture was launched. Jackass, CKY, and a sense of prankster viral videos way before YouTube was ever a thing all came with Big Brother.

‘dumb’ tells the story of this magazine and this trailer shows how crazy this story is.

Look for it to start streaming on Hulu starting June 3rd.

Already, Nate Fernald has been given a hard pass by James Corden for The Nate Nate Show, a talk show made within the halls and rooms of The Late Late Show with James Corden, after its first episode.

However, every innovator worth a damn has always been beset with rejection on their path to the top.

With that in mind, Nate Fernald pushed forward and (as covertly as possible) made the second episode of The Nate Nate Show.

So, with that in mind, catch the series premiere of Great News, the new show from Fey, Wigfield and Carlock (who delighted us all for years at the aforementioned 30 Rock) tonight at 9PM on NBC.

From the promo, there’s promise of something that could be really good here.

While there are plenty of conversational podcasts that feature a cadre of great guests talking entertainment and comedy, the fact that Lear will be talking Amy Poehler, America Ferrera, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jerrod Carmichael, and Charles Barkley is something to definitely listen to.

Look for All of the Above to premiere on May 1st.

Liartown/Sean Tejaratchi Is Making a Liartown Book, Which Might End Up Being One of the Best Coffee Table Books of All Time

April 24, 2017
Uncategorized

For years, Sean Tejaratchi, better known by his site Liartown USA, is putting out a book of all his off-kilter, hilarious, surreal, and absurd satirical art.

We’ve featured Liartown from time to time as it is one of our absolute favorite things. An entire book, we think, will make for a great addition to your personal library and an absolutely perfect coffee table.

Called, “Liartown: The First Four Years”, it’s set to come out in November, but is available for pre-order now.

You can get more details from Sean himself here including this gem:

“I am accustomed to colors. Will this book have colors?”
Every page will be full, glorious color. I think there’s one page that’s almost entirely black, but that’s still technically a color, as you know.

“Will the colors be any good?”
Close your eyes and imagine yourself stumbling out of a darkened forest onto a dazzling beach. You spy a rainbow, bathing nude in a lagoon of equal parts motor oil and distilled water. (If you want to imagine yourself naked, too, go ahead.) Swirling, hypnotic eddies of reflective iridescence trail in the rainbow’s seductive wake, decorating the surface with over forty million billion trillion unique colors. You walk downstream, still naked if that’s how you’ve decided to picture yourself, watching the colors flow into a single torrent, churning over discarded displays of semi-gloss paint samples until at last tumbling down mossy, shadowed chines, verdant and overgrown. The pigments plunge down, down, into a chocolate church, the hallowed walls of which hold towering windows of intricate stained glass, forged aeons ago by master craftsmen who swore blood oaths to faithfully capture the ruddy pinks, the sun-kissed tans, the rich, dusky hues of every member of the human race on earth or below the sea. The sky outside this otherworldly cathedral is lit by over thirty to forty different suns, one green, one red, one blue, and then plenty of other kinds (inc. brown). These ancient orbs, locked in a cosmic dance as old as time itself, send their rays to find you inside. Multi-hued beams burst effortlessly through the fragile glass to reach, at long last, the rods and cones at the backs of your eyes that have waited for this fleeting moment, so patiently, since your birth.

So yeah, I’d say the colors are gonna be pretty good.

Her special starts streaming next week on Tuesday, May 2nd on Netflix.
