Very simply, many of LA’s best tell their worst jokes that they come up with this year. It’s a great, cathartic way to kick 2018 to the curb. Barbara Gray and Dave Child will be presiding over hosting duties.

As a holiday gift to us all, it’s free to attend. Get more details, full line-up here.

Aaron Weaver’s Cosmic Joke Might Be the Chillest Comedy Album This Year

Chill, clever, cheeky, thoughtful and, again, very chill, Aaron Weaver is the perfect comedian to get a laugh while stargazing, enjoying a sunset, or any other sort image that’s meditative.

In fact, this debut album Cosmic Joke opens with a very laid back, but delightful guided meditation that sets the tone of easing back on an inner tube on a lazy river. That being said, Weaver’s writing and observations are very slick (and silly) and he uses his stoner-affected delivery and cadence to hide the seams of his well-crafted jokes. All in all, Cosmic Joke is a comedy album that’s probably perfectly paced for these times if you need to need to laugh about the universe in a way that isn’t fueled by existential dread.

So, please get and enjoy Aaron Weaver’s Cosmic Joke here.

Emma Willmann returned to Colbert last week for her second set on The Late Show and really showed us all the finer nuances of inner-relationship dynamics within the LGBTQIA community.

Also, Emma just saying that she’s the “man one” in the relationship over and over is pretty fantastic.

Please enjoy the set here.

Please Get and Revel in Lizzy Cooperman’s New Album “Organism”

It is our firm belief that one of the marks of great jokes is their ability to be enjoyed repeatedly. Sans surprise, they’re truly something special if they can still be so damn funny even if you can recite it from hearing it so many times.

Lizzy Cooperman is absolutely one of our all time favorites here and we’ve definitely doubled over laughing every time, which must be well over a hundred times at this point, we’ve seen her dissonantly bang away at her keyboard in between her rapid-fire, absurdist, dark, personal, often non-sequitur humor.

So, though we often knew what was coming throughout the whole of Organism, the energy, spirit, and unwavering commitment to be sublimely silly was still so thoroughly delightful to us.

We wholeheartedly agree with Karen Kilgariff in the intro for this album for Lizzy when she says that Lizzy makes her believe in comedy.

So, please go get Lizzy Cooperman’s Organism right here right now and enjoy it again and again and again and again.

It has been quite some time since we’ve got a chance to see Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher AKA renowned comedy duo BriTANick (if you’re not familiar, enjoy going down a YouTube rabbit hole here) together on stage to enjoy their absurdist antics, and now, maybe some stand-up comedy (Nick has become quite the stand-up over the last few years).

Thankfully, that latest chance is just around the corner, specifically next Saturday, December 15th at 10PM at UCB Franklin.

Tickets are $12 and you can (and should) get them here.

Netflix’s 47-Comedy-Specials-From-Around-The-World Event “Comedians of the World” to Happen on New Year’s Day

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that they were going to do a simultaneous drop of over 30 comedy specials from comedians around the world.

Talk of when that would happen was vague, but, just yesterday, the streaming service giant announced that they’ve kicked up the number of specials to 47, will be doing it on New Year’s Day, probably when you have 48 spare hours of time to watch all of it, and are continuing their run on the most generic sounding name for their stand-up series by calling this “Comedians of the World” (the others being The Standups and The Comedy Lineup)

For the US, specials from Nicole Byer, Chris D’Elia, Neal Brennan, and Nick Swardson will be dropping. Here’s a peek of some of the other specials that are set to come on Jan. 1st, 2019.

So, like the globe being swallowed by the smiley face in this poster, prepare to be swallowed up by stand-up as soon as 2019 starts.

Watch Trailer for Ellen DeGeneres’ Long Awaited Next Stand-Up Special “Relatable”

It has been, as has been mentioned plenty in the lead up to this special, 15 years since Ellen DeGeneres’ last stand-up special. Within this trailer, it seems she is well aware of that fact and that she has risen up the ranks to being one of the biggest and longest running daytime talk show hosts, a place far from the rest of us.

Yet, her charm still seems to be well intact and this hour might be, of the comedy specials that Netflix has had with the biggest stars in comedy, may have the broadest appeal and success.

See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for it to start streaming on Netflix on Dec. 18th.

There is a certain, great innocence that Nore Davis has a knack for preserving with his hysterical insights into the troubling world around him. It’s kind of a rare feat to pull off in comedy, especially to do so without sounding overly self-righteous or preachy.

On his third album Too Woke!, Nore maximizes this talent of commenting on such hot button issues nuances of race, gender, class, and sexuality all while being still very much on point with his punchlines, tags, and delivery. Nore himself is also a joy to listen to as his voice is so animated in so many particularly splendid ways.

It will always be amazing to us when someone whose native tongue isn’t English figures out how to handily do stand-up in English. It’s another whole level of fluency in a language that, like so many things in comedy, just can’t be taught.

Daniel Simonsen who is originally, as mentioned above, from Norway made his very first American TV appearance last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers and, to our point, has managed to toy with nuances of English as well as his play it up with his hilariously bone dry stage persona.

So, please enjoy Daniel Simonsen’s very first U.S. TV/late night appearance here.

On stage as a stand-up, on The Crabfeast podcast, and even behind-the-scenes at the storytelling series This Is Not Happening, Ryan Sickler has made himself an undeniable presence when it comes to comedic storytelling.

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that his new album Get a Hold of Yourself is a finely aged bottled of stories tapped from Sickler’s personal reserves about his family, drugs, and the infamous roller coaster Tatsu. When hearing them, there’s a timeless feel to the way he weaves details together, his perfectly measured timing, the smooth, deep sound of his voice that make it so you can’t help but want to sit and listen and not really want to do anything else.

So, go get Ryan Sickler’s Get a Hold of Yourself available now from Blonde Medicine here.

The fact that Emily Heller has made a novelty card for all her fans at live show that lets potential thieves of fans’ wallets know to, well, not steal said fans’ wallets, is just one example of how much care and cleverness Emily puts into her comedy. This is explained on this new album and indeed 100% true as an Emily Heller fan from Indiana showed the card to us.

Pasta, the new hour from Heller, is the same great Emily complete with a painterly level of detail and an organic, almost narrative driven flow, though done for these bizarre, often terrifying times that we live in, but are still managing to get through on a daily basis. In particular, Emily’s observation on her newly agreed relationship to going to the gym is exquisite.

Pasta is available now from Kill Rock Stars and you can (and should) go get it here.

Ben Roy’s New Album “Ooze Your Delusions” Is a Really Great Way to Enjoy Laughing Through Your Rage

On performance of his jokes alone, Ben Roy is a thrill to watch and listen to. It’s almost as if his comedy is to stand-up as MC5′s Kick Out the Jams was a shock to sixties’ rock.

Ooze Your Delusions, Ben’s follow-up to No Enlightenment to Sobriety, picks up right where he left off being the best, bombastic firebrand comic and yet poetic throughout his rants all at the same time. Truly, it’s a great way to release rage that you might have right now for some reason via Ben channeling his own rage into comedy. Also, he does all of this without really getting political, which might be refreshing for some Trump-weary comedy fans.

Ooze Your Delusions is available now from 800 Pound Gorilla Records here.

This month, the brilliant Emily Heller does indeed have a new album coming out this month from Kill Rock Stars, entitled Pasta.

Here’s a small, but great sampling, in video form no less, of how sharp, colorful, genuine, expressive, and funny Emily can be as a comedian within a single bit. It is a joke about life under the Trump Administration that was written and honed well before yesterday’s midterm elections, but still rings true at this very moment.

For 10 years, every Thursday, Josh Haness and Josh Weinstein have been holding down one of the best stand-up showcases in LA, appropriately called The Josh & Josh Show. Held in the back room of Bar Lubitsch, the nice and tight line-up always made for a damn fine night of stand-up in WeHo.

Unfortunately, The Joshes have decided to end their decade run at Lubitsch next Thursday leaving this Thursday and 11/15 left for you to catch their show (a thing we highly urge you to do, especially since it’s FREE w/no drink minimum or maximum).

Tomorrow, they’ve got a stacked line-up of Joe DeRosa, Kara Klenk, Jared Logan, Kurt Braunohler, Eddie Della Siepe, and Ian Karmel.
