We’ve said it over and over and we’ll say it again: Rory Scovel is one of the funniest comedians working today.
This special, Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For The First Time, is proof of it as Scovel, in a deceptively casual way, shows off all of his many skills. He has well crafted material that carefully meshes the absurd, keen observations, and the truth. Yet, he’s always willing to chase the fun of a moment wherever it will take him. It’s a balance that few comics can manage, much less keep going for an hour.
Also, it has a damn great opening (hats off to director Scott Moran as well).
Basically, free up an hour and change as soon as you can and stream Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For The First Time ASAP.
Just like Rory will be “trying stand-up for the first time” in his upcoming Netflix special, Rory also “knows” how to “play piano”.
Enjoy him giving a sample of how well he can play the keys on last night’s Conan.
Basically, Rory Scovel is one of the best out there in comedy right now. Even if this upcoming special claims that he “has never tried stand-up before”, he is still one of the best.
You’ll see with this trailer and then when Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For The First Time starts streaming Tuesday, June 20th next week.
Both Joe Mande and Rory Scovel are two great comedians of this current golden age of comedy that are deserving of their upcoming Netflix comedy specials that arrive this month and next.
Also, we just love the juxtaposition of the titles of their specials and how much of a goofy range it covers.
Oh, in case it wasn’t clear, mark these dates down as Joe and Rory’s new hour will definitely be worth watching.
Watching comedians perform, you might think that they’re such succinct observers of the world around them that probably know a little more than just a thing or two.
This new show “Experts” (Note: the quotation marks are intentionally part of the title and suggest an air of sarcasm) will put comedians and their knowledge to the test via a completely factual multimedia presentation on a topic.
This first show has an amazing line-up that could make anything they talk about entertaining, but will focus in on a topic they feel that they’re an “expert” in. With Guy Branum, we’d guess it be Canada.
“Experts” will kick off next week at UCB Sunset. Tickets are $7 and you can (and should) get them here.

Hosts Ahamed Weinberg and Ramy Youssef always gather a great handful of comedians like Rory Scovel, Anna Seregina, and Curtis Cook for their monthly stand-up showcase that focuses on the theme of “repentance”.
Also, this is one of the handful of places where you can see John Mulaney live around LA this week.
Right now, the show is sold out of advance tickets, but there will be a stand by line that might have a few tickets available for $7.

For us, any time Rory Scovel has a mic in his hand and is on stage is required viewing.
This traumatic story from his youth about his very first sharting incident does not disappoint. It may be about ‘unintentional bodily evacuations’, but Rory makes this story kind of beautiful.

Pretty much everything you could want out of a Reggie Watts comedy special is included in Spatial.
Stand-up, amazing improvised songs, a bizarre, faux sitcom that co-stars Kate Berlant and Rory Scovel, and tap dancing is just some of what’s in store for your eyes and ears in watching this new hour from Watts.
