Pick of the Day: Jackie Kashian Live-stream from Comedy Works South 5/28

May 26, 2021
News
comedy works, jackie kashian, live stream

It was our thought and hope that comedy venues would take this time of the pandemic to outfit or configure themselves so they could live-stream their in-person performances and we’re really very glad that is indeed happening.

In fact, you can see one of our all time favorites, Jackie Kashian, who kept her stand-up sharp throughout lockdown we might add, headlining Comedy Works South (that’s in the Greater Denver Area) this weekend. A live-stream of her Fri. May 28th performance with a live audience from the club will go live at 6:15PM PT/7:15PM MST/9:15PM ET (and replay Sat. May 29th at the same time).

Tickets are only $15 and, of course, there is NO 2 drink/item minimum. Go get your tickets for it right here, right now.

For this year, there might not be a better compilation of “humor pieces–essays, satire, short stories, poetry, cartoons, artwork, and more,” from some of the funniest women (that are very much some of the funniest people on the planet, end of discussion) than Notes From the Bathroom Line: Humor, Art, and Low-Panic from 150 of the Funniest Women in Comedy by Amy Solomon.

There are contributions from the likes of:

Pick of the Day: Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer 1/6/21

December 21, 2020
News
live podcast, live stream, nicole byer, on location live, why won't you date me

Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer has been and continues to be one of the best podcasts about dating/relationships/sex that has ever existed. Actually, it’s just one of the best podcasts, no further discussion needed. Byer’s candor, penchant for sex positivity to the nth degree, and overall undeniable hilariousness has been the perfect mix in Byer’s intimate chats with her guests about their and her love lives.

If you’re looking for something to look forward to in 2021, let it be a very special live-stream edition of Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer that’s set for Thurs. Jan. 6th 6PM PT/9PM ET via On Location Live (it will be up to watch for a few days after in case you can’t make it at the time of the stream).

Tickets are only $10.50 and you can and very, very much should already look towards a better year in a couple weeks by getting tickets here.

Pick of the Day: The Jen Kirkman Dysfunctional Xmas Show 12/4

October 5, 2020
News
christmas show, jen kirkman, live stream, on location live, xmas show

Every year, our least favorite time of year rolls around, the holiday season. There’s a variety of reasons for why that is and we won’t get into that right now, but a definite bright spot, for us, during the holiday season is Jen Kirkman’s Annual Dysfunctional Xmas Show.

Kirkman usually holds her holiday show that is for all of those folks that normally feel despondent about December because of their family, being alone, etc. at the Hollywood Improv. She truly makes a wondrous variety show of comedy, story, song, and, sometimes, reimagining what a holiday movie could be that even holiday cynics can revel in. Of course, putting up the Dysfunctional Xmas Show at a comedy club isn’t likely for 2020, so Jen has opted to do a live-stream from her lovely living room on Fri. Dec. 4th at 6PM PT/9PM ET.

Tickets for Jen Kirkman’s Dysfunctional Xmas Show are $21 and $42 for 1-on-1 video meet-and-greet and they just went on sale today (because you might as well move on to Christmas since who knows how Halloween is going to go this year). Go get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Maria Bamford-Help You Help Me Help You 9/26

September 23, 2020
News
live stream, maria bamford, rushtix

The comedy of Maria Bamford is one of a kind in that it’s some of the best comedy that the art form has ever seen and also manages to hold space for being so boldly vulnerable and inspirationally life-affirming simultaneously.

Certainly, Bamford has been a supreme source of respite during these times with the plethora of online comedy she has taken part in. This weekend will be especially special as this Sat. Sept. 26th at 7PM PT/10PM ET will have Maria engage in a hybrid of comedy and group therapy (billed as stand-up meets questionable advice) for her 2-hour interactive live-stream experience, Help You Help Me Help You!

Note on participating: All ticket holders will be able to opt-in if they want to randomly be selected to share the virtual stage with Maria.

Tickets are $15 and can (and very much should be) gotten at RushTix here.

Pick of the Day: Lucha VaVOOM: Stay-In VaVOOM 9/3

September 2, 2020
News
kcrw, live stream, lucha va voom, pro wrestling, variety show

Truly, there is no variety show in LA (or the world really) quite like Lucha VaVOOM. Luchadors, acrobats, burlesque, music, comedy, and so much more have made Lucha VaVOOM into an LA staple and sensation that has been enjoyed across the globe.

This Thursday, Lucha VaVOOM returns (virtually) with another round late night, high flying entertainment with hosts KCRW’s Anthony Valadez and LVV’s Miss Rita for Stay-In VaVOOM.

You can get access to this live-stream for FREE is you’re a KCRW Member or for $1 donation or more here.

Lucha VaVOOM: Stay-In VaVOOM is set for Thurs. Sept. 3rd at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Get more details here.

Pick of the Day: Ron Funches “Awakening” Live Stream Comedy Special 9/5

July 22, 2020
News
blair socci, combustion live, comedy special, gabe dinger, live stream, ron funches

The spirit of Ron Funches in these times, in all of its tireless joy and positivity, has been an inspiration during quarantine. Even the pixie like sound of his laugh can brighten one’s day. So, it stands to reason that an entire comedy special from Funches would very much be a thing to look forward and that’s what’s coming next month.

On Saturday, September 5th at 7PM PT/10PM ET, Funches will present his latest hour live for all the world to see on a live-stream. Ron is aptly (for the times we’re living in) calling this hour “Awakening” and having the fantastic Blair Socci and Gabe Dinger open up the show..

Tickets are $10 ($50 if you’d like a post show virtual meet & greet). You can and very, very much should get tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Cameron Esposito: Live From Home 7/30

July 21, 2020
News
cameron esposito, dynasty typewriter, live stream, stand up

Cameron Esposito is virtually headlining once more via Dynasty Typewriter. The sharp, clever, and caring comedy of Esposito is something to always be enjoyed, but should especially something to be comforting and inspiring in these unsure times. Also, all donations for this performance will go to Cameron and Dynasty Typewriter as, once again, the fate of live stages and live performers are just as unsure as they were at the start of lockdown and need all the support they can get as the pandemic persists.

Cameron Esposito: Live From Home is set for Thurs. Jul. 30th at 6PM PT/9PM ET.

So, Venmo a donation to @cameronesposito and RSVP for the show here.

Pick of the Day: The Goddamn Dave Hill Show (Weekly Starting 5/25)

May 22, 2020
News
dave hill, live stream, the goddamn dave hill show

The latest addition to the live stream comedy fray will be a live-stream version of The Goddamn Dave Hill Show. Dave Hill’s radio show put Hill in the driver’s seat as a full fledged live on-air program, complete with live calls, guests, etc. It’s the sort of format that lets Hill’s talents shine (his endless charisma, wildly silly wit, and his musical prowess). If you loved Hill’s recently released The Pride of Cleveland, you’re for quite a weekly treat with this announcement.

Starting on Memorial Day, The Goddamn Dave Hill Show will make a return, albeit a virtual one via Facebook and Twitch, and going live every Monday at 6PM PT/9PM ET. His first guest will be Monster Magnet’s Dave Wyndorf and it looks like Dave will keep this going as we’re all still prohibited, with very good reason, from gathering in such dark, intimate places where one would normally watch Dave do his “goddamn thing” in person.

Comedy Quarantine Is Becoming a Nightly Stand-up Livestream (That Allows You to Pay Comedians Performing)

March 24, 2020
News
comedy quarantine, live stream

The very first @ComedyQuarantine offered dozens and dozens of the best comedians in and around LA to not only perform and give all of us a bit of a break, but get a chance to get so much needed support as so much work has dried up.

Now, what we thought might have been a one-off livestream is going to become a nightly one, Monday-Friday, bringing more of LA comedy’s favorites that, up until two weeks ago were performing at the plethora of weekly stand-up shows all around town. Last night’s line-up was pretty stellar including The Puterbaugh Sisters, Casey Ley, Clark Jones, and Molly Ruben-Long.

Tune in to @ComedyQuarantine on Instagram Live (and also check who’s playing on their IG feed) with hosts Teresa Lee and Barbara Gray Mon.-Fri. at 7PM PST/10PM EST with new line-ups every single night.

Earlier today, a mysterious link was tweeted out about a live Rick and Morty event this Thursday somewhere in the LA area. Unsurprisingly, tickets to the live event were sold out.

Fret not for those unable to get tickets or not in the LA area. The live event (though its not clear what it is outside of it involving the “Rick and Morty team”) will be live streamed on adultswim.com/streams at 6PM PST on Thursday, June 29th.

Ahead of that, all two seasons of Rick and Morty will be streamed also at adultswim.com/streams starting at 3AM PST that same day.

Don’t think so? Watch it the announcement from Adult Swim’s YouTube channel.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee’s Not The White House Correspondents Dinner Is Tonight

Tonight, tune in at 10PM on TBS or 8PM PST on a Twitter livestream (with a 6PM PST red carpet) for Samantha Bee and Full Frontal doing their own White House roast, The Not The White House Correspondents Dinner.

Nothing like this has been really done as other presidents, even Bush, show up to the White House Correspondents Dinner and make that spectacle enough for the weekend.

It would be great to see if the ratings for both Sam Bee’s Not The White House Correspondents Dinner and the actual WHCD with host Hasan Minhaj got “fantastic ratings”, partially because Trump wasn’t there.

Jamie Loftus and JASH Will Be Livestreaming a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-1980s-Political Thriller/Ballet Performance “Swan Lake Live!” From a Locked Basement

If you love absurdist, experimental comedy, please commit the name Jamie Loftus to memory (we’ve suggested doing this on a number of occasions as we find Jamie to be hysterical).

You can see why we love Jamie with her latest endeavor that mixes ballet, conspiracy theory, President Ronald Reagan, and choose your own adventure all into one event that will be livestreamed.

We’ll actually let Jamie further explain “Swan Lake Live! (from a Locked Basement)”:

The premise of the show goes: it is March 30, 1981, the day of Reagan’s assassination attempt, and I play a ballerina/government spy named um Jamie Loftus which is my name and my associate Gary and I come to in a locked basement that is slowly filling with gas from a stove full of ham upstairs. Suspecting that our employer, the president, may be in danger, we are tasked with escaping the basement and saving Ronald Reagan (who is a shitty president but we don’t know that yet it’s only 1981 keep up) while still performing Swan Lake in its entirety.

WHY WE NEED YOU: Because this is a livestream, I’m introducing several choose-your-own-adventure style choices in the show, including whether I should do a complicated ballet dance in a Ronald Reagan mask or whether I should buttchug a bottle of milk after punching through a pinata I made of Jodie Foster’s head.

THERE WILL BE: five dances to Swan Lake, five choices for the audience, three original cartoons from me Jamie, two miserable ballerina ingenues trapped in a basement that is slowly filling with gas, two costume changes I have to do live on camera and only one chance to see it live.

Also, my boyfriend is a young man named John Hinckley Junior, a man who you may not have heard of as of March 30, 1981 but who I think has the potential to really make something of himself.

Pretty great, right?

You can get more details about Swan Lake Live! (From a Locked Basement) here and livestream it on JASH tomorrow at 12PM PST-3PMPST.

Fox Broadcasting Launches Primetime Live Stream

You’ll stay have to have pay-TV authentication to do so, but at least this is a step towards the Internet and television inevitably merging together.

Perhaps, this will bode well for Making History, Son of Zorn, and The Mick, Fox’s new comedy line-up this year.

You’ll no longer be able to say that you can’t find where to watch TCGS.

Facebook now has a live broadcast platform as another new feature in the on-going competition with YouTube.

Fusion is taking advantage by having The Chris Gethard Show not only live streaming on Wednesdays and then airing an edited version later on Fusion’s linear TV channel, but also adding a live stream on Facebook. Those tuning into the live stream on Facebook will be able to watch the show from multiple angles as well as interact with the show (a cornerstone principle of TCGS).

The first run of this new platform for TCGS starts this week.

Everything Is Festival at Cinefamily Will Mostly Be Livestreamed

Many of you, for many reasons, won’t be able to attend what looks to be an amazing Everything Is Festival that’s already under way. You don’t have the dough to go or perhaps you don’t live anywhere near LA, etc.

Well, luckily, Cinefamily’s live streaming a lot of the festival, especially the live portions including Comic Relief Zero w/Tony Clifton, Comedy Bang! Bang! The Musical, Fox ADHD’s Pizza Party, Show and Tell with Maria Bamford, Mondo Public Access, and more.

So check the schedule for shows and times to watch because you don’t want to recreate what happened by just reading tweets about it.

At YouTube Studios this past week, 5 Second Films really played against type by doing a 4.5 hour live streamed show. Of course, not everyone had a 4.5 hour chunk in their day when the show happened, so they put the whole thing up in it’s entirety for your viewing pleasure.

Undoubtedly, we’re sure that someone will do the math if the entire running time of all 5 Second Films’ shorts is less or more than this whole show. Watch here. (Oh, you can still donate to their Kickstarter for their feature Dude Bro Party Massacre III here)
