Pick of the Day: Final Week of Comedy Quarantine

December 7, 2020
News
babs gray, comedy livestream, comedy quarantine, comedy show, dominque gelin, ig live, instagram live, sam varela, teresa lee

Comedy Quarantine has been dutifully and faithfully delivering stand-up comedy via Instagram Live (in a pretty slick way, we might add) for almost every week of lockdown/quarantine/this damn pandemic. The team of Barbara Gray, Teresa Lee, Dominque Gelin, and Sam Varela have connected the best comedians from around the country and the world to stay connected to everyone else and work on material within their own home or wherever they happen to be at the time (Teresa went live from a protest in DTLA) longer than any other comedy live-stream that we have known about this year.

On top of that, they have been taking donations to not only support the comedians on their line-up, but have raised plenty of $$$ for great organizations such as Ground Game LA or The Okra Project.

So, this week will be their last week and, as they have done throughout the duration of the pandemic, they’ve got stacked line-ups that are very, very much tuning into on IG Live for (as you can see above).

If you weren’t already checking them out, please check @ComedyQuarantine out for their final shows this Wed., Thurs., and Fri. at 7PM PT/10PM ET.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 19: Sam Varela & Thinking of Everyone

Prolific indie comedy producer Sam Varela is this week’s guest on TCB Field Report. Before quarantine, Sam produced so many wonderful comedy shows in LA and NYC. In quarantine, she immediately transitioned to building up the nightly IG Live stand-up show @comedyquarantine and doing a virtual edition of Picture This!, the live animated comedy show.  Sam zooms with TCB’s Jake Kroeger to talk keeping comedy going in this pandemic as well as inclusion and accessibility for everyone in that regard. Also, they gives takes on a petition for Eric Andre to host Ellen, unreleased Joan Rivers material that’s going to be released, and the UK’s recovery plans for comedy.

Please follow the shows that Sam produces @comedyquarantine & @picturethiscomedy as well as sign-up for newsletter that will keep you up-to-date on those shows and more at nakedcomedy.org.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 9: Barbara Gray & Moving Forward

News
comedy quarantine, hannah gadsby, lady to lady, live streamed stand up, nate craig, open mics, reopening, tropical heat

For the entirety of quarantine, LA comedy gem Barbara Gray has help run and host one of the most enduring, most put together, daily live-streamed comedy shows around, Comedy Quarantine. Barbara has an extensive chat with TCB founder Jake Kroeger about the intricacies of doing comedy on Instagram vs. other platforms and actually making more money than previously doing bar shows in LA. They also discuss the reopening of a handful comedy clubs across the country as well as an in-person open mic that defiantly wants to reopen despite not being allowed to. Also, time is taken to honor the memory of the late Richard Bain.

Follow Barbara Gray @babsgray on Twitter and @babs_gray on Instagram. Watch co-host @ComedyQuarantine and listen to her podcast that she co-hosts with Brandie Posey and Tess Barker, Lady to Lady, and Britney’s Gram: The Podcast.

Shout Outs: Tropical Heat, Nate Craig’s Preferred Customer, Hannah Gadsby’s Douglas.

Pick of the Day: Comedy Quaranweed (LA Food Bank Benefit) 4/20

April 16, 2020
News
420 friendly, benefit show, comedy quarantine, la food bank, stand up

@ComedyQuarantine has been holding down a very solid live stand-up comedy live-stream Monday-Friday for weeks now. Hosting a nice handful of comedians from all around the country, they’re now going for another big one-off on 4/20 (and of course, keeping it 420 friendly) with Comedy Quaranweed featuring 20 great comedians doing 4 minutes instead of just having their normal, daily line-up of 5 and they’ll be doing it to raise money for the LA Food Bank that has always given food to those desperately in need and are providing a crucial service during this time of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We wouldn’t be surprised if some (or a lot of the line-up) gets a little “toasted” for this special 4/20 show.

On the Comedy Quaranweed bill, is:
Barbara Gray
Jamel Johnson
Jamie Loftus
Teresa Lee
Nick Rutherford
Kat Toledo
Bri Pruett
Tess Barker
Daniel Rugg Webb
Megan Gailey
Erin Lampart
Will Miles
Paul Danke
Lisa Chanoux
Nori Reed
Liza Treyger
Chris Charpentier
Christine Medrano
Jes Tom

To get in on the Comedy Quaranweed, tune into @comedyquarantine on IG Live at 6PM PT/9PM ET

Handy Dandy Guide to Weekly/Daily Comedy Livestreams (While We’re All Hunkered Down))

Though it was for a terrible reason, the world of comedy has pretty much pivoted on a dime (with growing pains to be sure) into a cornucopia of live-streaming through several online platforms. Two weeks into a good majority of the major comedy hubs of LA and NYC being sheltered in home, there have already been a whole row of weekly and even daily livestreams featuring your favorite comedians and comedy folks. Best of all, you don’t have to live in LA or NYC or really anywhere to see these. Many are free or for donations and can be seen so long as your WiFi is solid. Also, that means many of the best comedians around the country will be showing up on all sorts of shows as they just have to join in on Instagram Live, Twitch, Zoom, etc.

For the time being, these livestream shows have set up shop and will be here every week or most days of the week to keep you from going entirely insane while being stuck at home. Take note that there are plenty of one-off special events that are happening as well not mentioned here. Check our listings frequently for when and where those shows will be happening.

Obviously, we’ll update this post the more that we find.

Comedy Quarantine-daily stand-up show, Monday-Friday at 7pm PST/10PM on Instagram Live @comedyquarantine, hosted by Barbara Gray and Teresa Lee, donations accepted for comedians and COVID-19 relief.

Eddie Pepitone: Live From the Bunker-live rants and guest interviews from Eddie Pepitone, Monday-Friday, 4PM PST/7PM EST on Instagram Live @eddiepep, free.

Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen (Home Edition)-same great weekly stand-up show with Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal on Mondays at 8PM PST/11PM PST at http://holdthephone.tv/, donations accepted for comedians and COVID-19 relief.

New Material Show with Maria Bamford-Maria Bamford works out 1/2 hour of new material Monday-Friday 3PM PST/6PM EST on Zoom, donate $5 or more to food bank or Venmo $1 to @maroo-bamfoo.

Comedy Quarantine Is Becoming a Nightly Stand-up Livestream (That Allows You to Pay Comedians Performing)

March 24, 2020
News
comedy quarantine, live stream

The very first @ComedyQuarantine offered dozens and dozens of the best comedians in and around LA to not only perform and give all of us a bit of a break, but get a chance to get so much needed support as so much work has dried up.

Now, what we thought might have been a one-off livestream is going to become a nightly one, Monday-Friday, bringing more of LA comedy’s favorites that, up until two weeks ago were performing at the plethora of weekly stand-up shows all around town. Last night’s line-up was pretty stellar including The Puterbaugh Sisters, Casey Ley, Clark Jones, and Molly Ruben-Long.

Tune in to @ComedyQuarantine on Instagram Live (and also check who’s playing on their IG feed) with hosts Teresa Lee and Barbara Gray Mon.-Fri. at 7PM PST/10PM EST with new line-ups every single night.
