News

The prospect of Kids in the Hall’s Kevin McDonald doing a new anything is definitely worth your time, attention, and money. The more elevated prospect of him doing a full on rock opera that’s based on “totally true events” should make it somehow more imperative for you to buy tickets and go to The Bell House on Thurs. Aug. 31st at 7PM.

Come this August, neither is just a fabricated scenario. Kevin McDonald and @ThisMyShowPresents will be premiering Kevin McDonald Superstar (A Rock Opera) at Brooklyn’s Bell House that’s all sourced from the life and times of Kevin McDonald. Joining him will be a treasure trove of NYC comedy including KITH’s Dave Foley, Dave Hill, Julie Klausner, Kevin McDonald, Jean Grae, and John Wlaysweski.

We’re pretty sure this is going to sell out way in advance, so go get your tickets for $30.57 a pop here right now.

Kids in the Hall Make Fun of Lorne Michaels in Trailer for Their Return on Amazon

April 13, 2022
News

You ought to know and be eternally grateful for what Canada has given to the world of sketch comedy. Nathan Fielder, Lorne Michaels (the forever grandfather of SNL), and Kids in the Hall.

Of the three, Kids in the Hall made their mark over 20 years ago by being darker and weirder in a way that sketch comedy or any of television had ever seen (and hasn’t been seen much since until I Think You Should Leave). Thankfully, Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson are rounded up once more for another round of The Kids in the Hall and they’re going to be as daring as ever, a bold endeavor in 2022, as you can see in this red band trailer for their upcoming Amazon prime edition.

Sure, there’s plenty of NSFW stuff in the trailer, but it’s pretty clear that they’re doing a pretty spot on send-up of Lorne in pondering what the return of The Kids in the Hall should look like. The series premieres on May 13th and we can only wonder (and hope) that SNL/Lorne responds?

Pick of the Day: SF Sketchfest’s Festpocalypse 1/30

It’s the first day of 2021 even though it feels like 2020 is still going on and doing it’s terrible, terrible thing, you can, if you’re up for it, try to start the year anew.

In that regard, we’d like to remind you of the first real big comedy event of the year (it’s still virtual, FYI): SF Sketchfest’s Festpocalypse. Coming in at the end of January right around when SF Sketchfest, one of the world’s biggest comedy festivals would normally happen, Festpocalypse will be a virtual event at a proportion that SF Sketchfest hasn’t ever done. Just take a gander at that line-up on the flyer. Even though it’s taking place over one day only, it really is a bill that they’d have at their normally scheduled, three week comedy festival extravaganza that takes over San Francisco.

Also, you should note that Festpocalypse is a fundraiser for SF Sketchfest to keep going in the future when doing a big time festival will be allowed.

Festpocalypse is set for Jan. 30th and will begin streaming at 5PM PT/8PM ET. Tickets start at only $20, but go up if you want to snag some merch. Go get them here.

Kids In The Hall Are Coming Back Thanks to Amazon

(via Deadline)

The landmark dark and absurdist humor of the legendary Canadian sketch group, Kids In the Hall, are indeed set to return via Amazon Prime. The entire group, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson are all on board for 8 brand spankin’ new episodes.

They’re planning on bringing back many of your favorite characters, but we hope we get something new and as wonderfully offbeat for today as the Kids in the Hall were for the 90s.

Thus, the amassing of content for the streaming wars continues and Amazon, for our money, scored big.

Since Kids in the Hall’s Scott Thompson relocated to LA, you have might gotten a chance here or there to see him do his renowned Buddy Cole character live here or there.

More likely than not, the opportunity probably slipped through your fingers to watch Thompson’s unapologetic, yet perfectly coifed firebrand Buddy Cole let loose.

Thankfully, Thompson is doing an entire month long residency at the Lyric Hyperion of Après le Déluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues for the nice price of $10 (if you get tickets in advance). You can (and really should) snag ‘em over here.

Fox Developing Comedy Written by Bruce McCullouch, Starring Molly Shannon

We’ve been saying over the last few weeks that Fox has been really killing it in terms of their comedy development slate, bringing in projects that already sound enticing to watch.

Well, this show that Molly Shannon will star in and produce, written by Kids in the Hall’s Bruce McCullouch who will also produce definitely falls into that category.
