News
janeane garofalo, lane moore, littlefield, tinder live

It should be a given, whether you follow us closely here at The Comedy Bureau or not, that Tinder Live with Lane Moore is an absolute must see show whenever it plays even remotely close to you wherever you are. It’s one of the most electric shows simply from Lane’s undeniable charm and whipsmart wit while diving headfirst into Tinder.

NYC gets treated to Lane’s Tinder escapades on a monthly basis at Littlefield in Brooklyn, but we wanted to highlight this one a little more as indie comedy legend Janeane Garofalo will be the featured guest that will be offering her hallowed counsel on whatever dating profiles come across Lane’s screen. Thus, it’s an extra, double-plus must see and there are tickets still available for this 11/5 edition of Tinder Live.

They’re going for $25.35 and you best snag them here now.

One of 2020’s Biggest Non-Virtual Comedy Events, Bring Back Laughs, Will Be Released via Comedy Dynamics

Back in 2020, when we’re all steeped in a different type of chaos and had no idea about when or how a vaccine would come about, our future (and by proxy, the future of comedy) was more uncertain than it has ever been in our lifetimes. Thankfully, there were enough clever and innovative folks that figured how to put comedy shows together unlike they ever were and, at that point in time, many of the biggest comedians, starved of any stage time, were up for anything.

One of the results from that mix was Bring Back Laughs, a big, socially distant comedy fundraiser, outdoors in a parking lot that boasted the likes of Roy Wood, Jr., Chris Gethard, Sam Jay, Rojo Perez, Myq Kaplan, Todd Barry, Carmen Lynch, Victor Varnado, Janeane Garofalo, Tone Bell, Nore Davis, Bonnie McFarlane, the Lucas Brothers, Hannibal Buress, Ilana Glazer, and Paula Poundstone. The Creek and the Cave, which was still in NYC at the time, partenered with Supreme Robot Pictures to throw this comedy benefit for Direct Relief that brought aid to impoverished or endangered folks around the country and the world.

“This performance is based on a series of comedy concerts Rebecca Trent was producing in a parking lot during the pandemic. The performers and the audience were so happy to get outside and benefitting a wonderful charity like Direct Relief is a cherry on top. This performance also made my wife think I’m cool.” said Executive Producer Victor Varnado.

It has been awhile since we’ve seen a pandemic era special, but we did remember seeing the pictures from this and thinking, while in LA, that we almost wished were quarantining in NYC at the time.

Thankfully, Comedy Dynamics is putting this out on all major streaming platforms, both for audio and video soon.

Editor and Littlefield booker Gabe Henry not only loves both comedy and haikus, but saw that similarities between the precision of a joke and the 5-7-5 structure of a haiku and wanted to marry the two.

Gathering dozens and dozens of comedy’s very best and renowned including Aparna Nancherla, Roy Wood Jr., Maria Bamford, Bob Odenkirk, Janeane Garofalo, Jerry Seinfeld, Aubrey Plaza, Ziwe, Chris Gethard, and so many more, Eating Salad Drunk: Haikus for the Burnout Age by Comedy Greats gives you perfect morsels of comedic minimalism. Emily Flake even adds some more flavor to the haiku anthology with her wondrous illustrations.

Best of all, all author proceeds will go towards Comedy Gives Back, a crucial nonprofit for comedians, especially when it comes to mental health, medical, and crisis support resources.

You can and very much should get a copy of Eating Salad Drunk, available now wherever books are sold.

Trump has let the states decide whether they want to defund Planned Parenthood or not. So, now, so many people are stepping up to have the back of Planned Parenthood.

So, to support the cause, a special collector’s box set of vinyl records featuring the comedy of Sarah Silverman, Aparna Nancherla, Jenny Slate, Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro, Janeane Garofalo, Pete Holmes, and Zach Galifianakis in addition to music from some of the musicians around like St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney, Björk, Matt Berninger, Elliott Smith, Sharon Van Etten, Mitski, Feist, and Chvrches will be released soon. All of the comedy comes from Largo’s archives by the way.

Also, we like that the folks behind this project made this note:

Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance.

Pre-sale date has yet to be announced, but you can get more info here.

Part of a great comedy cultural exchange between the U.S. and Canada comes around during the JFL Montreal Comedy Festival when JFL also shoots their stand-up showcase series, Funny as Hell.

As past episodes have been streamed plenty on Seeso, Seeso has opted to make the series more known in the States, especially because of its heavy use of U.S. talent, to order a sixth season that’ll offered on NBC’s comedy streaming service.

There will be more names that’ll be added to the series during the festival, but that line-up alone is reason enough to go watch it.
