Jerrod Carmichael’s Second HBO Special “8″ Premieres Tonight

March 11, 2017

At 10PM on HBO tonight, Jerrod Carmichael’s second special “8″ will be premiering. After having some seasons of his own critically acclaimed network sitcom and an hour long HBO special under his belt, we’re thoroughly curious as to what this latest snapshot of Jerrod will be like.

As you’ll notice from this promo, it has a rather distinct look apart from most stand-up specials. That might have something to do with the one and only Bo Burnham directing it. They’re probably are some great surprises in there as well with Bo in the director’s seat.

John Oliver Meets with the Dalai Lama To Have a Definitive Interview

John Oliver doesn’t have big guest interviews every week (or even some weeks) on Last Week Tonight. However, the interview with the Dalai Lama from last night’s episode shows how good an interviewer Oliver can be while balancing his angles of comedy and geo-socio-political awareness.

While this is on a comedy show, we wouldn’t be surprise if this interview at the latter half of this deep dive segment becomes one of the more highly referenced clips of the Dalai Lama in covering the tension between the Chinese government and Tibet.

Season 2 of HBO’s Animals Gets a Teaser with Plenty More Critters That Have Human Problems

While the anthropomorphizing of animals isn’t anything new, it’s usually reserved for children’s tales.

However, the last few years has brought plenty of great animated dramedy that tangle with more nuanced adult issues such as existential despair, complicated relationships, etc.

Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano’s Animals on HBO is one such show and the teaser for their second season looks like it’s promising more exquisite examining of the human condition in the absurd framework of animals both big and little.

Also, the voices of Emilia Clarke, Ice T, Jason Alexander, Kim Gordon, Big Sean, Dan Harmon, Killer Mike, Andy Richter, Mark Duplass, Judy Greer, Fred Armisen, and Jon Lovitz will be featured this season.

If you’re on board, mark your calendars for the season premiere on Friday March 17th at 11:30PM on HBO.

Just because the world is topsy turvy and satires seem less and less fictional these days doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy hit satirical comedy shows like Silicon Valley.

Watch this teaser for season 4 and you’ll hopefully find that you can still enjoy the insanity of the tech world.

Season 4 of Silicon Valley premieres on Sunday, April 23rd.

Last Week Tonight Returns to 2017 to Examine Trump’s War with Truth and Buys Ads on Morning Cable News to Keep Him Informed

Trump was not yet President since John Oliver and his Last Week Tonight team went on hiatus.

Now that we are on the other side and Trump is actually POTUS, it’s just a bit relieving to see that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is also still here and doing the work that has gotten them so much well-deserved praise.

For their latest segment, they have to take on ‘you know who’ and not only do an exquisite job breaking down Trump’s constant battle against truth and offering up a direction to move forward, but they bought ads on the morning cable news shows that Trump watches in hopes that he might learn a real thing or two.

Dark Musical Comedy Series Loosely Based on John Roberts’ Life Being Developed by Universal and Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite for HBO

There are so many great ingredients that are at work here. Called Edison, this project seems to lean towards Roberts taking the bubbly musical elements that he gets to play with on Bob’s Burgers and bringing them into a live action world with the sandbox that HBO allows and the latitude that a dark comedy bent brings.

Oh, we should mention that Roberts’ Bob’s Burgers co-star H. Jon Benjamin is co-writing and also executive producing this project too.

Excited for this possibly being HBO’s next comedy yet?

Chris Gethard’s Solo Show “Career Suicide” Will Air on HBO in May

When it comes to comedy specials, HBO still is a force to be reckoned with.

Despite Netflix nabbing specials from Chappelle, Rock, Seinfeld, and Schumer for this year, HBO choosing to release Chris Gethard comedy special from his Off-Broadway show could bode very well for them.

Also, please note how ironic the concept of something called “Career Suicide” being an HBO special is.

Here Are Samantha Bee and John Oliver’s Past Segments on Migrants and Refugees Because They Seem Even More Important Than When They First Aired

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver have done great, extensive coverage on why such Trump’s recent travel and immigration ban is unnecessary and awful. Though you might have seen it already, the segments seem even more crucial than when they hit the airwaves and the Internet.

So, we’ve gathered the lot of them up here in this post for your convenience.

This weekend, President Trump signed an executive order that banned immigration and travel from non-U.S. citizens from 7 Muslim majority countries that are suspected of sending terrorists to our shores here in the U.S.

Of course, this prohibits many refugees from coming to America that have already gone through a rigorous process to come to the States for the next several months. Here are more details on what the executive order says and does as well as the aftermath, which includes a few judges defying the order in regards to detaining certain individuals already at U.S. airports, from The Atlantic.

There are plenty of protests of this executive order to join at airports around the country. If you can’t join in there, consider donating to the ACLU or CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations).

Also, for the good measure of normalizing Muslims in the U.S., watch, rewatch, and/or share Aasif Mandvi’s brilliant satirical multi cam sitcom Halal in the Family.

John Oliver and his crack staff at Last Week Tonight couldn’t come back sooner this year.

However, we have a few more weeks before Oliver takes up his desk behind one of the best satirical news shows ever on television. Season 4 of Last Week Tonight premieres on Sunday, February 12th at 11PM.

While we won’t have an episode of Last Week Tonight commenting on the inauguration of Trump right after it happens, Oliver made a great teaser (some might say pretty, pretty good) to tide us over in the meantime.

Both Girls and Lena Dunham have come a very long way in socio-political significance. Its stamp on pop culture, whether you love or hate the show (or watch a myriad of other TV series in this 21st Century Golden Age of Television), is pretty undeniable.

The sixth and final season of Girls is about to kick off in a year where visibility for women in media will be as important as it has ever been.

The trailer just dropped and seems to offer the set up for what will be some satisfying closure to the show and its characters. Maybe, that will make for an unforgettable send off of Girls?

We’ll see if that happens when the final season premieres on February 12th at Sunday, 10PM on HBO.

HBO To Air Carrie Fisher’s Special ‘Wishful Drinking’ This Week in Tribute

A few years ago, HBO made a special out of Carrie Fisher’s stage show Wishful Drinking, which features Fisher’s wild stories told unapologetically and hilariously by her.

On, Sunday, January 1st at 9PM, will air the special once more in tribute to the late, legendary actress.

As you can see from Fisher roasting George Lucas at an AFI Award event, you might want to watch.

Sunday, February 12th at 10PM will be the start to the final leg of Hannah Horvath’s journey in her long-running HBO series Girls. Until then, here’s a teaser for the sixth and final season of Girls.

Natasha Rothwell Upped To Regular On ‘Insecure’ and Will Also Develop Her Own Comedy At HBO

You might have seen Natasha Rothwell on Netflix’s comedy mini-series Characters, but she’s now on her way to bigger things.

She just got bumped up to being a regular on Insecure, which just earned itself a second season pickup, and, even more impressive, will be developing her own project at HBO that she’ll be writing and starring in.

If everything goes according to plan here, HBO’s comedy line-up will have a much more diverse look than a couple of years ago.

Barack Obama to Start This Week Off at Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and End It at Real Time with Bill Maher

With his appearance coming the Friday before the election on Tuesday, November 8th, Obama’s appearance on Real Time ought to be one of the most fascinating in the show’s history even beyond the fact that a sitting President is sitting down with Maher.

So, this week, President Barack Obama’s interview with Samantha Bee will air on her show, Full Frontal, on this Monday/Halloween. The POTUS will close out the week at another firebrand, political comedy show by finally taking Bill Maher up on his open invitation and appear on Real Time.

Few hosts as big as Maher have publicly lobbied as hard for an Obama sit down, which should make this, as suggested above, a fascinating interview.

Watch it on Friday, November 4th on HBO at 10PM.

Just so you know Ullman’s done four seasons of a sketch/character show at the end of the 80′s and the end of the 90′s, but took a little more time off than usual before this latest iteration of Tracey’s own TV series.

Specifically, Tracey Ullman’s Show is set to premiere this Friday, October 28th at 11PM.

Let Tracey you give her own inside look.

10PM and 10:30PM respectively on HBO.

Reading the titles of Divorce and Insecure almost seems like too perfect of a pairing of series debuts, but that is indeed what’s happening tonight. Issa Rae makes her debut with the show she stars in and co-created, Insecure and Sarah Jessica Parker, Thomas Haden Church, the guiding hand of series creator Sharon Horgan, and a tale of separation meet up in is a very intriguing looking dramedy.

Again, that’s 10PM or whenever you’ll want to watch it later on HBO GO or HBO NOW.

HBO Signs an Overall Deal with Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green and Brandon James AKA Rough House Pictures

Based off Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, we’d say that’s a pretty smart move.

Rough House Pictures, the production company that Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green, and Brandon James run in order to make the two much lauded comedy series, is now getting a bigger playground to play with at HBO than they ever have before.

This two year deal will have the Rough House team develop series exclusively for HBO. With that in mind, we have a good feeling about HBO comedy through the rest of this decade.
