January 10, 2017

Both Girls and Lena Dunham have come a very long way in socio-political significance. Its stamp on pop culture, whether you love or hate the show (or watch a myriad of other TV series in this 21st Century Golden Age of Television), is pretty undeniable.

The sixth and final season of Girls is about to kick off in a year where visibility for women in media will be as important as it has ever been.

The trailer just dropped and seems to offer the set up for what will be some satisfying closure to the show and its characters. Maybe, that will make for an unforgettable send off of Girls?

We’ll see if that happens when the final season premieres on February 12th at Sunday, 10PM on HBO.

Sunday, February 12th at 10PM will be the start to the final leg of Hannah Horvath’s journey in her long-running HBO series Girls. It will probably be an even more interesting flashpoint of conversation than it normally is with series creator Lena Dunham being one of the most ardent supporters of Hillary Clinton.

Until then, here’s a teaser for the sixth and final season of Girls.

From this latest promo for the latest season of Girls, Hannah Horvath and her girls don’t seem like they’ll disappoint in terms of seeing the sort of chaos they get drawn towards even though they didn’t think such a thing would ever happen.

HBO and Lena Dunham Agree to End “Girls” After Season 6

(via Deadline)

It’s interesting to see that 9-10 seasons was sort of a goal for sitcoms in the 90s and, in this millennium, 6 seasons is the now the benchmark for a landmark series.

Lena Dunham has got so many other things going that we’re not even aware of the full scope of what she’s working on. On top of Girls, she’s got a career as an author, movies, Lenny Letter, cameos on other shows like Scandal,

So, knowing that and knowing the journey that Hannah Horvath and company have gone through over the last few years makes it seem just about right that Dunham and HBO are coming in for a final landing on the series.

Don’t start getting remiss and teary eyed quite yet as season five hasn’t even premiered yet.

Hannah Horvath and her squad are back at it again with all the torment of still realistically trying to grow up and trying to stay friends while doing so.

That’s right, Girls is back for its fifth season and it doesn’t look like it’s going to hold anything back, just like it’s been doing for the last four seasons.

Watch the trailer here, then watch the premiere on Sun. Feb. 21st at 10PM on HBO.

According to the website, it’s “Feminism, style, health, politics, friendship and everything else from Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.”

Expanding her reach beyond her work in film and TV, Lena Dunham has partnered up again with her Girls showrunner Jenni Konner for a weekly newsletter. We guess that Lena got a taste of publishing with her book Not That Kind of Girl and writing now and again for The New Yorker and wanted to have something on a more consistent basis.

When Lenny Letter launches, there will now be a triumvirate of celebrity-feminist-icon-backed sites with HelloGiggles and Rookie.

It’s coming this fall and you can sign-up here.

The Hollywood Reporter Has Women In Comedy Roundtable Discussion With Amy Schumer, Gina Rodriguez, Lena Dunham, and More

Women in comedy are definitely having a moment right now unlike they’ve had in decades past.

Not only are Tina Fey and Amy Poehler comedy power brokers, but there are more female producers, writers, and directors making female led comedy series and movies.

That being said, there is still a lot of stereotypes and prejudice that needs to be fought against. So, The Hollywood Reporter had a frank roundtable discussion with Amy Schumer, Ellie Kemper, Tracee Ellis Ross, Gina Rodriguez, Lena Dunham, and Kate McKinnon about carving out their niche in comedy.

You might just be surprised the sort of nonsense regarding women on screen that still exists in 2015 as well be proud of what the folks in this discussion have accomplished when you watch this…

…or this…

…or this…

…or this…

…and this.

“The Simpsons” Will Have All The Girls From “Girls” Guest Star

It’s not going to be a crossover episode, but we’d surprise if there weren’t any nods or references to HBO’s Girls in the upcoming episode.

Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, and Jemima Kirke will all stay together like they do on Girls in an episode of The Simpsons where they all are guest starring.

The separation between their Girls characters and these characters only seems to be that Dunham’s character will be a pharmacist and they’re in Springfield and not Brooklyn.

After this, anyone think that there will be an episode of Girls where, at the very least, this episode of The Simpsons will be playing in the background?

Late Night with Seth Meyers has some fun with Lena Dunham the same way they did with The Newsroom last year.

Dunham takes on her Girls’ role as Hannah Horvath and sees if the writers’ room at Late Night is a good fit for her. Notice how she wouldn’t be OK with it being the other way around and seeing if she is a good fit with everyone else.

Oliver sat down with Seth Meyers discussed having to follow a comedy now as opposed to one of the weightiest of dramas as well as some choice words to “console” Seattle Seahawks fans in their devastating Super Bowl loss this past Sunday.

Already, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will be serving their hosting duties at The Golden Globes at 8PM on NBC. Twitter should be full on non-stop live-tweeting from both comedy folk and non-comedy folk that might be worth perusing from the comfort of your own home.

On top of that, Girls returns for its fourth season at HBO at 9PM and the series premiere of The Duplass Brothers’ Togetherness follows right after at 9:30PM. To cap off the evening, there’s also the season four premiere of Episodes on Showtime at 10:30PM.

So, get comfy make plans/DVR accordingly.

The fourth season of Girls hasn’t even premiered yet and HBO is already going ahead with ordering a fifth season from Lena Dunham.

The premiere of this latest season is this Sun. Jan. 11th at 9PM. If HBO’s move was to make season four more enticing with a fifth one in the works, then their plan worked.

Armando Iannucci, Mike Schur, Jenji Kohan, Mike Judge, Jenni Konner, Chuck Lorre, and Marc Maron Have a Fascinating Chat

The Hollywood Reporter gathered together comedy showrunners Mike Schur from Parks and Recreation, Jenji Kohan from Orange Is The New Black, Mike Judge from SIlicon Valley, Armando Iannucci from Veep, Jenni Konner from Girls, Chuck Lorre from Two and Half Men (and so many more), and Marc Maron from Maron to chat for awhile about being a showrunner for a comedy series in 2014.

The results are pretty intriguing and enlightening. At one point, due to the modifier asking the entire group a number questions that they qualified with an exemption of Lorre’s shows, Chuck Lorre asked, “What am I doing here?”
