At this point, it takes quite a bit to raise our eyebrows when it comes to comedy.

That being said, this show Cheers The Show: The Show, a sketch showcase of several different versions of the opening to Cheers by very talented sketch writers and performers (including Genetra Tull, Elizabeth Schantz, John O’Toole Katy Fullan, Jackie Durruthy, Lee Barats, Dan Torson, Lauren Knutti, Ryan Kelly, Coil Danielle, Lorae Byas, Caitlin Linden, and producer/director/co-writer Brian Rodriguez-McGovern) is one of those shows. Some of the cold-opens nail the tone and vibe of Cheers and some are hilariously off the deep end.

In any case, you should catch the latest edition of this show next week at UCB Sunset (it’s a test show that could go on to be a recurring thing at UCB FYI). Get tickets here.

Sure, you’ve been to a festival before. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely been to a comedy festival. However, have you been to a comedy show that gathers a bunch of festivals that parody the idea of the biggest festivals around like SXSW, Coachella, etc. (and probably FYRE too) in one night?

The folks behind The Best Friends Show and Atlantic City along with wonderful musical comedy group The Cooties and so many other great LA comedy performers are gathering to do just that and you’ll get to see something that you have (probably) not seen before and will very likely get a huge kick out of.

Best of all, it’s just a single comedy show as opposed to an entire festival where you have to rearrange your entire life and finances to go to.

It’s called Festival Fest and it’s happening next Saturday. Go get your tickets here now.

We got to see this show Mom Prov Presents Family Therapy where Izzy Roland along with her mother and grandmother do long form improv together on stage and was simply blown away. It was almost half-improv, half-actual-reality-TV as their real life relationships inevitably blend into their performance, making for something uniquely hysterical.

With that said, you shouldn’t miss their next show at UCB Sunset on Tues., Mar. 26th at 8:30PM. Tickets are $7 and you can (and should) get them here.

Last month, Cait Raft shook the worlds of all those at UCB Franklin with her midnight presentation of why she thinks “Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born Takes Place In An Alternate Reality Where 9/11 Never Happened” (and also why, that Robert Pattinson vehicle, Remember Me, is super dark).

The presentation of this conspiracy theory was probably one of the more memorable nights we’ve had in 2019 and Cait has thankfully gone and done up her presentation again for your convenience. So, please enjoy it here.

Could this be a TED Talk? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see if TED Talks are up for dishing out this much truth.

We saw The Crossword Show last year and are still floored by Zach Sherwin showcasing his command of language and how to twist, turn, and manipulate it all for comedic effect (it made our 100 Best list).

Basically, Zach, his guests, and the audience do an entire crossword puzzle together that’s filled with jokes, factoids, etc. and they are all thematically tied together no matter how disparate the clues and answers might seem.

This latest edition will be on Wed. Mar. 13th 8PM at Dynasty Typewriter at the Hayworth Theater he’ll be joined by a panel of Lisa Loeb, Pete Holmes, and Nicole Holliday (an actual linguistics professor) in case that furthers entices you.

Tickets are $10 in adv. and $15 on the day of the show. So, go get them here ASAP.

Often, what happens at midnight at UCB is some of the most intriguing, rewarding experiments.

We have a hunch that this live presentation and panel discussion from Cait Raft about Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star Is Born in an ALTERNATE REALITY where 9/11 never happened might just be one such show. Certainly, they have a great line-up to pull off this stunt including Birthday Boys’ Mike Mitchell and Drew Spears.

It’s definitely a case of “this is so crazy, it just might work”.

So, get ready to stay out late this Saturday and go get your tickets here.

The idea of a show about death and loss created and performed by modern day clowns might seem a little ridiculous, maybe diametrically opposed.

However, we’d say that death itself is a little ridiculous as it happens to us all, but none of us (NONE OF US) knows what happens afterwards.

It is this hardline contrast that us living folks have to deal with and is, consequently, the absurdity that Amrita Dhaliwal and Gemma Soldati, two modern clowns (perhaps even delightfully postmodern?) so beautifully created their show The Living Room around (and make grief a little easier to handle).

We’ve seen this show develop in 2018 and we thoroughly enjoyed the journey, almost free of space and time, that we were taken on, laughing the whole way through.

Go get your tickets for next week’s performances here.
