Soundcloud Launching New Monetization Plan with Ads Which Might Be Good For Comedy

August 21, 2014
Uncategorized
ast records, comedy central, earwolf, funny or die, jash, monetization, soundcloud

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Arguably the audio equivalent of YouTube, Soundcloud has established itself as one of the top services in their niche. They’re now going to implement ads and a potential subscription service with a handful of partners in order for those partners to generate their own revenue with their content.

So far, ads from Comedy Central could play on audio content from Earwolf, AST Records, Funny or Die, or JASH. If this direction continues, this could be a new avenue for podcasts or comedy albums looking to monetize themselves.

By this point, we’d hope you’d be familiar with Daniel Van Kirk’s mastered and hilarious impression of Mark Wahlberg that he’s done anywhere from Comic-Con to Set List: The Improvised Stand Up Show.

He’s now doing an entire show on Aug. 21st at 7PM at UCB LA as Mark Wahlberg with the following description: Musician, Model, Actor, Producer, Entrepreneur, Inspiration, Better Than You. After decades of using his knowledge to only benefit himself, Mark Wahlberg has teamed up with other celebrities and famous friends for “The Wahlberg Solution!” a round-table discussion of current news and events that will sort out the world’s problems as only A-List celebrities can.

It will be called The Wahlberg Solution and will feature Emily Maya Mills, Madeline Walter, and Kenny Stevenson as various “celebrity friends”, but, more importantly, Earwolf is recording this live performance that they will later release for all of us not lucky enough to be at UCB LA next Thurs.

Earwolf Launches New Podcast, Hollywood Handbook with Sean Clements and Hayes Davenport

Earwolf adds another podcast to their expansive network focusing in on “breaking into entertainment” stories, which goes to show you that podcast is starting to grow from just being exclusively, purely focused on comedy.

Well, aside from both Sean and Hayes being comedy writers and interviewing Jake Johnson from the hit sitcom New Girl, it’ll focus on the more industry side of things.

IFC & Earwolf Developing Show Starring The Multiple Characters of James Adomian

We’ve been wondering what exactly IFC and Earwolf have been up to ever since that struck that TV production. Well, we’re glad to hear that a show starring the hysterical James Adomian and so many of his great characters is one of those projects, which, by the way, is long overdue.

For the sake of comedy, let’s all hope this gets greenlit and goes to series.

Just announced today, online written humor giant, Cracked.com is expanding to have a podcast, though, interestingly enough, not on their site, but rather in through a partnership with podcast network Earwolf.

“The Cracked Podcast” will feature in depth chats between Cracked editors once a month with smaller episodes in the weeks between.

We’d be curious to see how many episodes will be arguments regarding the best/worst animals.

Earwolf, All Things Comedy, & More Podcast Networks Join Soundcloud

Many of the major comedy podcast networks like Nerdist and now, Earwolf, All Things Comedy, Splitsider, The Bugle and Laughspin have become Pro Partners as well as Comedy Central over at SoundCloud (that’s where our podcast This Better Be Funny is located by the way if you’re interested). This means that you’ll be able to find many of your favorite podcasts and audio clips can all be found and shared at SoundCloud instead of jumping around from different streaming services, sites, etc.

The constantly redefined and ever burgeoning world of podcasts has just made another step towards figuring itself out.
