Bridget Everett Has Just Taped a Special For Comedy Central

December 17, 2014
Uncategorized

Comedy Central already has comedy specials from Kyle Kinane and Matt Braunger lined-up for 2015 making a pretty damn good start for them for their comedy specials.

Now, they’re adding on to that with a comedy special from an unstoppable force of musical comedy Bridget Everett.

Everett just taped “Gynecological Wonder”, which should blow the socks as well as many other items of clothing off anyone watching.

Hopefully, the special will come sooner to Comedy Central rather than later in 2015. We’ll let you know the premiere date as soon as we find out.

The beginning of the final season of Parks and Recreation comes Tues. Jan. 13th at 8PM on NBC and you can get your imagination running with how the show will close with this teaser trailer.

By the way, Johnny Karate, drones, and more in the teaser will definitely get your brain going.

You Probably Don’t Love “It’s A Wonderful Life” The Way Jenny Slate Does

During her interview on Conan last night, Jenny Slate admitted that only recently has she watched one of the cornerstones of American cinema during the holidays, “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

While the movie is a classic, Jenny also revealed that she loved it in a way that most people probably have gotten to quite yet.

Side note: more movie reviews should be more like this.

Tim Burton Confirms Beetlejuice 2 Will Happen with Winona Ryder Returning

In “movies-that-are-happening” news, a sequel to Beetlejuice is finally going forward with Tim Burton back at the helm. Not only has the director confirmed the sequel, he has also said that Winona Ryder will also be returning. There’s no official word on whether Michael Keaton will reprise the titular role, but he has expressed interest before.

We’re not sure what Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice could have been up to all these years, but we’re glad to know that we’ll be finding out in the not so distant future.

Fox ADHD’s Lucas Bros. Moving Co. and Stone Quackers Moving to FXx

More comedy is finding its way from network to cable as Fox ADHD, which used to be an entire block on Fox, has two of their shows, Lucas Bros. Moving Co. and Stone Quackers, head over to FXx.

Thursdays in Jan. 2015 at midnight, FXx will have an animated block that will feature both of these shows as well as The Simpsons and probably more.

We’re guessing they’ll be more appreciated over at FXx?

Sony Pictures and Major U.S. Theater Chains Succumb to Hacker Demands and Cancel Christmas Release of “The Interview”

(via Variety)

So, the “Guardians of Peace” (i.e. ideologically misguided, butthurt hackers who waste their talents over superfluous nonsense rather than actually making the world a better, more peaceful place) got what they wanted.

Sony Pictures and top U.S. theater chains have canceled the Christmas release of The Interview in fear that some sort of attack might befall any theaters or theater goers that would screen the movie.

Given how much criticism of the government, society, and more that Americans engage in every split second, it’s more than odd that the limits to our free speech and expression here in America are coming from threats leveled by hackers who can’t correctly use whatever translation app they’re using as opposed to any sort of shadow government.

If you’re wondering if this has set a precedent in terms of pre-emptive censorship by studios fueled out of a fear, look no further than reports of Steve Carell’s latest project Pyongyang getting canceled.

There has been preliminary talks of releasing The Interview through VOD, but nothing has been made official.

What is official is the end of this statement from Sony regarding the release’s cancellation,“We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome.”

Canceling the release of a movie out of fear is apparently what "standing by our filmmakers and their right to free expression” means.

As the idea, or at least part of it, was to instill cowardice against depicting North Korea in a negative light here in America, we’d hope to see sketches, web videos, anything that aren’t afraid of what Sony, Regal, AMC, and more were afraid to do soon.

No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins Is Second Most Googled Show of 2014

December 18, 2014
Uncategorized
fusion, game of thrones, most searched, no you shut up, paul f tompkins

Though No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins is on a relatively new niche cable network, Fusion, people apparently googled the show more than True Detective and Orange Is The New Black according to a 2014 trend report compiled by Google itself.

No, You Shut Up! is only in its 3rd season and only Game of Thrones was searched more on Google more often. However, No, You Shut Up! unfortunately doesn’t get near the ratings that Game of Thrones does, but maybe that’s because more people have HBO or an HBOGO password than those that have Fusion.

Hopefully, all of that will change very soon because watching Tompkins, puppets, and guests in “heated” debate is pretty damn great.

No matter what the awards ceremony is, we’re thrilled to hear that the amazing James Adomian is set to host anything. SXSW’s Interactive Innovation Awards have tapped Adomian to be the evening’s emcee and we can’t wait to see what things he has up his sleeve.

Hopefully, clips of the event will find their way online via SXSW or, perhaps, they’ll livestream the event. After Tina Fey and Amy Poehler end their run at The Golden Globes, this is the awards host we all should be excited to watch.

Sony Pictures Not Releasing “The Interview” in Any Format

December 18, 2014
Uncategorized
north korea, sony pictures, the interview

(via Variety)

It’s probably overload on all of your news and social media feeds to read about how The Interview has been taken out of theaters for its originally scheduled release on Christmas. We just posted about it a few hours ago.

Well, we felt it prudent to give one more update as Sony Pictures has nixed releasing the entire movie altogether. No VOD or DVD release will be coming in the future. That’s over $50 million from the production and marketing budget specifically spent all for naught by Sony Pictures on The Interview because they’re scared of hacker threats that have been linked to the North Korean government.

There’s more at stake for Sony as the hack has affected more than just the release of The Interview, but this doesn’t change how cowardly this move is.

So, as it stands now, Sony has shamefully locked The Interview away much like Jerry Lewis has locked away The Day The Clown Cried.

The Chris Gethard Show Is Now Headed to Cable

(via Splitsider)

What might be one of the most successful public access TV shows of all time, The Chris Gethard Show, is now headed to the bigger ponds of cable TV.

Gethard made an announcement in last night’s episode of his show though he didn’t reveal what cable network was sagacious enough, picking up where Comedy Central left off, in taking The Chris Gethard Show on or when exactly it will happen.

Still, for those of us that are still sad at hearing the words canceled, nixed, scrapped all this week, rejoice in this long overdue pick-up of TCGS.

Dallas/Fort Worth’s Alamo Drafthouse To Do a Free Screening of “Team America: World Police” in Place of “The Interview” UPDATE: Screening Canceled

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

With Sony giving up on releasing Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s The Interview in any way, plenty of folks, us included, are outraged. Even with threats that referenced 9/11, plenty like Judd Apatow were willing to go to theaters to see The Interview in theaters.

Leave it to one of the best theater chains around, Alamo Drafthouse, to do something about this. Their Dallas/Fort Worth location was planning on screening The Interview and will now do one free screening of Team America: World Police on Dec. 27th at 7PM.

For those of you not familiar, Team America was the last comedy, from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, where American forces take on a North Korean dictator known as Kim Jong-Il.

So, with this in mind, take President Obama’s advice on the whole matter and go to the movies and maybe chant “America, F*ck Yeah!” while you’re at it.

UPDATE: Paramount Pictures has pulled this and other screenings of Team America: World Police.  (via Deadline)

“Ellen” Audience Member Keeps Coming to Conan Tapings With Christmas Gifts From Ellen Degeneres

Some of you might know that both The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Conan tape on The Warner Bros. Studios backlot. So, it might be feasible that an audience member could attend both tapings and, as it’s the holiday season, take all the free gifts they’ve gotten from Ellen and bring them over to Conan.

The only thing is that Conan doesn’t usually give out gifts to his studio audience at this time of year and seeing an Ellen audience member bring them over to his studio is, well, awkward.

Watch how awkward it, especially with a drop-in from Ellen DeGeneres herself, can get here.

Sarah Silverman Starring in Upcoming HBO Comedy Pilot

With dramedy Togetherness already set to premiere next month, HBO is delving more into the mid-life crisis territory of comedy in their latest pilot order. Sarah Silverman will star as a “pathologically honest woman having a mid-life crisis”. The description sounds like a radical departure from The Sarah Silverman Program, but we’re definitely into seeing Silverman get more vulnerable and honest.

There is no title yet, but as Happyish and Togetherness are already dramedies on the premium cable networks, we’d hope the title is something that goes in a slightly different direction just to stand out.

The final episode of The Colbert Report will air 11:30PM on Comedy Central with “Grimmy” more commonly known as The Grim Reaper.

Conan O’Brien’s “Conan To Go” special where some of the best remote segments over the years are all put together into one will air at 10PM on TBS.

We’re just giving you an update on what you’ll be doing this evening.

You don’t have to even DVR one or the other in order to end up watching both. Also, FYI, Comedy Central is airing a Colbert marathon today so you can further ditch whatever it is you were doing right now.

Most press in promotion of a movies consist of rote questions that cast members, directors, writers, etc. hate answering and, in many cases, the interviewers hate asking.

So, Andre Hyland is changing the press interview game with his unique style that is less about what is working with who and more about “custom” autographs on Hyland’s head, etc. Check his sit down with Ben Stiller, Rebel Wilson, Dan Stevens, Ricky Gervais, Shawn Levy, and Owen Wilson and you’ll agree that more interviews should be like it.

Stephen Colbert Signs Off From The Colbert Report Into Eternity With Star-Studded Farewell

Bryan Cranston, Katie Couric, Jeff Daniels, Big Bird, Willie Nelson, Hoda Kotb, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jon Stewart, Abraham Lincoln, Cookie Monster, and way, way more gathered to say goodbye to the character known as Stephen Colbert and his program on Comedy Central, The Colbert Report last night after its now renowned 9 year run.

However, it wouldn’t be consistent with The Colbert Report to just a big music number and end like typical late night shows. The ‘Report’ has been anything but typical. In fact, it’s been revolutionary and, as such, “Stephen” goes off into this particular good night, as he’s always been, still in amazing, hysterical character.

Watch the big musical farewell and the last words of “Stephen Colbert” before he becomes Stephen Colbert now.

When people were concocting various strategies that Comedy Central to fill in The Colbert Report when Stephen Colbert was first announced to be David Letterman’s replacement at The Late Show, some entertained the idea of “@midnight with Chris Hardwick” going up to 11:30PM.

However, the name of the show would prohibit from that ever be serious schedule change… or so we thought.

From Jan. 5th to Jan. 19th, the two weeks that lead up to the premiere of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Comedy Central has indeed decided to move up “@midnight” to 11:30PM.

We’re sure Hardwick and company are going to have a bunch of fun in a quasi-time rift for a fortnight.

Obama Says Sony Made a Mistake Canceling The Release of “The Interview”

December 19, 2014
Uncategorized
barack obama, sony pictures, the interview

(via Deadline)

At President Barack Obama’s Annual Year-End News Conference, Obama commented on the Sony hack and their subsequent cancellation of releasing The Interview:

“Sony is a corporation. It suffered significant damage, threats against some employees. I am sympathetic to the concerns they faced. Having said that, yes I think they made a mistake.”

As the FBI has just named North Korea officially responsible for ordering the hack, Obama stressed the importance of not bending to the will of an entire government that merely doesn’t like being portrayed poorly:

We cannot have a society in which some dictator someplace can start imposing censorship here in the United States. Because if somebody is able to intimidate folks out of releasing a satirical movie, imagine what they start doing when they see a documentary that they don’t like, or a news report that they don’t like, or, even worse, imagine if producers and distributors and others start engaging in self-censorship because they don’t want to offend the sensibilities of somebody whose sensibilities probably need to be offended. That’s not who we are. That’s not what America is about.

Also, Obama stated that the United States “will respond proportionately at a time and place we choose”. There are most surely plenty of despicable things to be found the e-mails of the North Korean government and their own national cinema probably doesn’t even come close to pulling off a movie that’s anything like The Interview.

What would a proportionate response be? Maybe hack their air waves and broadcast The Interview on every North Korean television on repeat? A whole load of satirical movies on Kim Jong-Un and North Korea?

Craig Ferguson will, in a few hours, leave The Late Late Show at CBS as its third host leaving it to a myriad of guest hosts and, eventually, James Corden. Tom Snyder and Craig Kilborn came before him, but neither had the nine year run that Ferguson had.

In one of the most rigid formats on television, the late night talk show, Ferguson managed to oscillate between the tropes of the form and also start making delightful cracks in the veneer of late night’s shiny suit and tie. Doing a monologue however he feels like doing, ripping up pre-interview questions, awkward pauses, having a robot sidekick and Secretariat, and other small things about Ferguson’s tenure at The Late Late Show made Ferguson absolutely stand out at 12:35AM.

With the end of The Colbert Report and Ferguson leaving tonight, this is a pretty historic week in TV, especially in regards to comedy. The gravity of both Colbert and Ferguson leaving probably won’t be felt for a bit due to the focus on Sony and The Interview, but we’ll feel it when they’re both gone next week.

Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long before he’s back as a free wheeling host of something. For now, you’ll just have to watch Craig Ferguson’s final episode at 12:35AM at CBS with Jay Leno as his guest.
