Kurt Braunohler has kept the whimsy going by adding his verbal flourishes to more greeting cards that we wish could give to several people at work/in our year book. This is why you should be watching Bunk Friday on IFC 10:30PM.

When the Gauntlet is Thrown Down on Late Night Panel

Whether it’s planned or not, when the host and the guest on a late night talk show go from small talk to going verbally toe-to-toe, it’s a hell of a lot more fun.

For instance, Denis Leary and Jon Stewart insulting each other on The Daily Show (parts one and two).

New Muppets-esque Show, Arsenio is Back, and More Comedy ‘Trades’ News

June 21, 2012
Uncategorized

And now for a quick, but thorough, list of industry news headlines regarding the world of comedy. (with a bit of commentary thrown in if we feel like it)

–BBC and Jim Henson Co. team on new Muppets style program, ‘No Strings Attached’. “[insert any pilot picked up this year by U.S. network] got picked up instead of this?!?”-most people probably

–Daria will air again with an MTV retro hour. We only fear what will be on MTV when ’00 nostalgia takes over.

–Arsenio Hall returning to late night. He must have been watching Leno and thought, “I can definitely make a comeback.”

–Safety Not Guaranteed filmmakers on to make The Ambassador.

–There may be a Bored to Death movie.

–Denis Leary cop comedy pilot gets greenlit by FX. Does this mean 7 or so years from now Denis Leary will be in a comedy pilot on FX about being in the Army?

–Larry David movie may have Jon Hamm in it.

–Ed Helms, Amy Poehler, Cobie Smulders, Michael Ian Black, and Noureen DeWulf to be in They Came Together.

–Chelsea Peretti officially leaving Parks and Recreation. Hopefully, this will mean she gets to make a web series based off her Instagram pranks.

–Matt Groening’s Life in Hell coming to an end.

–The Nerdist adds new podcasts with Doug Benson and The Watkins Family.

–Jimmy Carr apologises for tax evasion. That’s how you know you’ve made it as a comedian: You have enough money that warrants alleged tax evasion.

Celeste and Jesse Forever Has Potential to Be Next 500 Days of Summer

June 22, 2012
Uncategorized

From the trailer, Celeste and Jesse Forever with Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg has the potential to be that subversive, dark romantic comedy that hits a nerve with so many people who will end up talking about specific scenes over and over, but also will consequently piss off a whole other group of their friends that don’t buy into the dynamic between the two leads and wish they would stop talking about how great said movie is and should go out and meet other people already.

In other words, it might just be a great romantic comedy that might have made this list we made for Laughspin a while ago had it come out years ago.

Watch Promos for IFC’s Bullet in the Face, Supposedly The Most Violent Half-Hour Comedy Ever

June 24, 2012
Uncategorized

There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding IFC’s latest comedy project, Bullet in the Face, for its graphic depiction of violence. Some claim it might be the most violent half-hour of comedy on television. From this promo, what we mainly see is Eddie Izzard being Eddie Izzard and very little killing, which we’re sure is no coincidence.

While there’s plenty of bloodshed sure to come, it would be hard to be more violent than the South Park Christmas special that featured woodland creatures performing Satanic sacrifice. Also, Eddie Izzard will at least bring some class to murder.
