The League Is Coming Back to FXx for One More Season

Good News & Bad News @theleaguefxx is coming back for one last season. #7Years2Networks549DickJokes

— Paul Scheer (@paulscheer)

December 8, 2014

It’s impressive to see any comedy series making it to seven seasons these days. It’s even more impressive to see one that centers on a fantasy football league like The League has just done.

They’re getting a seventh and final season at FXx, which is news perfectly punctuated by Paul Scheer’s hashtag #7Years2Networks549DickJokes.

Conan O’Brien PayPal Sketch Is Probably More Effective Than Previous PayPal Ads

We’re not absolutely sure if this delightfully bizarre sketch on Conan was actually a plug for PayPal or not, but whether it is or isn’t, it’s still pretty damn funny and has gotten us thinking about PayPal. That’s how ads are supposed to work, right?

Anyways, watch this sketch that starts off with Conan getting his sweater stolen…

Cameron Crowe’s Showtime Comedy Pilot “Roadies” Gets a Cast

Cameron Crowe’s Showtime comedy pilot “Roadies” has just locked its cast. Luke Wilson, who had an excellent turn in Skeleton Twins this year,  Imogen Poots, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Peter Cambor will all play a touring rock band’s road crew making for a sort-of workplace comedy set behind-the-scenes at a rock concert.

Roadies definitely seems like the perfect bridge for Crowe to get into TV and we can’t wait to hear the soundtrack he has in store for us.

Watch Trailer for Bisexual Indie Comedy “Appropriate Behavior”

Desiree Akhavan has written, directed, and starred in her feature film debut Appropriate Behavior that’s already, without a theatrical release, gotten a nomination for a Spirit Award.

You could take note of the movie off of that alone, but there are way more intriguing things of note about it.

It follows Akhavan as a bisexual who has yet to come out to her Persian family living in NYC and all the inherent pressures of such a life that comes from all angles. The trailer promises something wry, acerbic, vulnerable, and darkly funny and, basically, we’re into this whole mix in Appropriate Behavior.

Watch the trailer here and then watch it in select theaters Jan. 16th, 2015.

We’re happy to tell you that you can now buy for those closest to you or the weird co-worker you got in a round of Secret Santa or even yourself, your very own Flotsam General Store Mystery Sack filled with “artfully-curated, hand-conceived item”.

Please note that only the small sack is available right now, but a limited run of a 1000 will go soon as do all artisanal, small batch things put together Brooklyn are.

The Winners of The 2014 Channel 101 Incredibly Prestigious Achievement Awards

December 7, 2014
Uncategorized

Every month, we post the latest installment of the amazing self-contained, self-sustaining indie short from TV commune known as Channel 101 because it features some of the most original, logic defying, hysterical shows around.

Every year, Channel 101 has an awards ceremony officially called The Channel 101 Incredibly Prestigious Achievement Awards, affectionally coined The Channys, not unlike The Oscars (but way more fun) honoring the best of their best. Last night, the awards were presented and the triumvirate of police procedural parodies Car Jumper and spin-offs Fishbowls Are Definitely My Thing and Skateboard Cop dominated with 10 awards.

This makes a convenient list of what you should go to Channel 101 and watch as soon as possible. Also, make sure you go to The Channys next year as you’ll see funnier and crazier things than you’d ever see at a televised awards show (i.e. Davey Johnson as Jeffrey Milkshake demanding a milkshake from The Downtown Independent otherwise he’ll call the Fire Marshall leading up to him announcing nominees for Best Other Thing)

So, without further adieu, The Winners of The Channel 101 Incredibly Prestigious Achievement Awards are:

Best Failed Pilot-Mike Stebbins Has a Motorcycle
Best Special Effects-Aegis
Best Original Music-Staff of Gelroth
Best Editing-Fishbowls Are Definitely My Thing
Best Production Design-Aegis
Best Cinematography-Car Jumper
Best Other Thing-Best Comeback-Vatche Panos

Crime Comedy Continues to Trend with “Frauds” from Caspe/Ozeri/Tarses and “Arms and Dudes” Starring Jonah Hill

December 7, 2014
Uncategorized

A wave in comedy that has been slowly building towards breaking across both TV and film has been crime themed comedy.

Already in the works, Johnny Depp has the high profile thievery comedy in Mortdecai and Zach Galifianakis is starring in Masterminds, previously titled Loomis Fargo, featuring a robbery by a more rag tag bunch. It might be a stretch, but you can this year’s unexpectedly funny revenge flick John Wick in there too.

Announced this week, Happy Endings’ David Caspe, Gil Ozeri along with producer Jamie Tarses are putting together a family crime comedy at Fox called “Frauds”. It will follow low level criminals trying to work up their way to ponzi schemes (via THR).

Todd Phillips has just cast Jonah Hill and gotten crime comedy feature “Arms and the Dudes” moving forward at Warner Bros. Hill will be part of a duo that were stoners that end up dealing arms for the U.S. government (via THR).  Even though The Interview hasn’t made it to theaters and Arms and Dudes has to roll into production, we think the two would definitely make a good pairing.

Perahps, out of this trend, we’ll finally get the this decade’s Snatch.

Don’t let the title “Drunk Driving with Brad Gage” fool you as host Brad Gage is completely lucid and sober when behind the wheel. However, his comedian guests are anything but those two adjectives making for a good time getting home.

This series could appropriately be named Drunk Comedians Going Home and Doing Other Stuff Along the Way. Watch the first playfully tipsy episode (again, Brad is sober) with a slightly (or more than slightly) buzzed, but still delightful Beth Stelling

Indeed, President Barack Obama will sit down and chat with Colbert, which might be great timing as he could use a Colbert bump right now.

Here Are The Comedy Nominees for The 2015 Grammys

December 5, 2014
Uncategorized
everything is awesome, grammys, jim gaffigan, joan rivers, louis ck, mandatory fun, obsessed, oh my god, patton oswalt, sarah silverman, tenacious d, tragedy plus comedy equals time, we are miracles, weird al yankovic

The Grammys have just announced the majority of the nominees for their 83 categories, which include Best Recording Package, Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, Best Album Notes, Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, and Best Comedy Album.

Of course, we’re only concerned with comedy here rather than how an album is packaged or what music is playing in your local chapel’s gift shop, so the nominees for Best Comedy Album are:

“Mandatory Fun”-Weird Al Yankovic
“Obsessed”-Jim Gaffigan
“Oh My God”-Louis C.K.
“Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time”-Patton Oswalt
“We Are Miracles”-Sarah Silverman

Honestly, it’ll be hard to tell who’s going to win as Silverman has an Emmy for We Are Miracles, Yankovic scored #1 Billboard spot with Mandatory Fun, and Oswalt, C.K., and Gaffigan are critically and commercially amongst the top tier of funniest people in comedy right now.

Also, we’d like to note that Joan Rivers got nominated posthumously in the Best Spoken Word Album category for “Diary of a Mad Diva”, Tenacious D got nominated for Best Metal Performance for covering Dio’s “The Last in Line”, and Tegan & Sara and The Lonely Island’s “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie got nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

See the full list, if you dare, of nominees here.

While Amazon has gotten plenty of accolades for their comedy series line-up that includes Transparent, we always thought that they missed out on picking up the pilot Those Who Can’t from Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl (i.e. The Grawlix) to series.

TruTV has now made the smart move of ordering a brand new pilot of Those Who Can’t that features the aforementioned trio as dysfunctional high school teachers dealing with dysfunctional high school kids.

If we remember watching the pilot correctly at Amazon, this should be great and needs to go to series.
