Conan O’Brien Sold Out of 500 More Nick Offerman Wood Emojis, So He Will Sell More

Earlier this week, Conan O’Brien almost instantly sold out of his wood emojis crafted by Nick Offerman that were originally done as a bit on Conan.

So, he decided to sell 500 more with all the proceeds going to the Children’s Defense Fund Action Council. That also sold out in mere minutes.

Thus, Conan has decided to sell as many as he can via Tilt.com still at $100 a pop. Orders will be taken over the next 9 days and, as of this post being written, 1393 wooden emojis have been ordered.

This might as well be Stephen Colbert week (or even fortnight, so we can keep on celebrating him right up until the very end of The Colbert Report).

Today, you should check out Stephen getting to dress up as Bilbo, Legolas, and Gandalf from the realm of Middle Earth, which, as many of you might know, is probably a dream come true for him, and making the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

The Hobbits have nothing on how silly Colbert gets while dressed up as a dweller of Middle Earth. Watch behind the scenes of the photo shoot here.

Watch Ben Schwartz’s Last Appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Since Craig Ferguson is winding down his run at The Late Late Show, his last round of guests are all his favorite folks to chat and goof around with.

Any time Ferguson and Ben Schwartz are seated next to each other, they’re having the most fun from wire-to-wire without really getting to any sort of pre-interview questions, though that is Ferguson’s sort of interview style.

Schwartz made his last stop at The Late Late Show last night and, per usual, it was sublimely silly. Watch it starting at 29:57 here or at CBS.com.

Adult Swim and TruTV Renew Their Freshman Series

(via The Hollywood Reporter/Variety)

New comedy series Friends of the People, Black Jesus, Mike Tyson Mysteries, and Mr. Pickles were all just renewed for a second season by their respective networks, TruTV and Adult Swim.

The sketch show on the rebranded TruTV, a show about the return of Jesus as a black man, a Scooby Doo style animated cartoon with Mike Tyson as the lead, and the adventures of a satanic dog have have all made it to a second round.

We’re pretty sure none of these shows would get picked up at one of the big broadcast networks, but unlike most of network sitcoms, these shows have, at the very least, either their bosses behind them or have done well enough to get another episode order.

In any case, televised comedy continues to thrive on cable.

Watch The Future of CBS’ Late Night Line-Up, Stephen Colbert and James Corden, Sing a Christmas Carol Together

As you’ve probably have already read plenty of times over, probably plenty right here at The Comedy Bureau, Stephen Colbert and James Corden will be the duo that take over The Late Show and The Late Late Show, respectively, at CBS next year.

When they take the reins to CBS’ late night line-up, they will be facing off against Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Carson Daly at NBC, Jimmy Kimmel at ABC, and Jon Stewart, Larry Wilmore, and Chris Hardwick at Comedy Central.

It’s a crowded field to be sure, but know that very few, if any, can harmonize like Colbert and Corden. Watch them sing a Christmas tune as well as Colbert giving some precautionary measures to Corden about what he’s getting into.

So, tune into to Fusion (here’s how to get Fusion if you don’t have it) tomorrow and every Thurs. at 10:30PM for the brand new and expanded No, You Shut Up with Paul F. Tompkins.

Oh, if you can’t wait until tomorrow, you can watch the premiere on Apple TV.

David Letterman to Officially Sign Off From The Late Show on May 20th

(via Deadline)

We’re on the threshold of the tectonic plates of the late night talk show world shifting.

Next week, Craig Ferguson will end his run at The Late Late Show and James Corden will take over three months later on Mar. 9th at CBS.

Also, next week, Stephen Colbert will end his run at The Colbert Report and Larry Wilmore will premiere The Nightly Show on Jan. 19th at Comedy Central.

Today, CBS announced that David Letterman’s final day as host of The Late Show will be Wed. May 20th, which is oddly a Wednesday rather than the usual end of the week send off.

So, this only leaves one date left for the next era of late night and that is when Stephen Colbert officially starts at The Late Show.

There has been a lot of build up to Disney Pixar’s latest original animated feature Inside Out over the last year or so, especially since with how the movie depicts how human thoughts and emotions work through an adorable set of characters voiced by the likes of Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, and more.

The teaser gave us a little taste of what that might be like as well as a rundown of Disney Pixar’s filmography.

Now, the first full trailer is here and we think that Disney Pixar has got another heartwarming, funny hit on their hands.

Inside Out hits theaters Jun. 19th, 2015.

Jon Stewart Admits One Factual Error on The Daily Show While Various Pundits/D.A’s Let Stewart Have It

Jon Stewart makes fun of how the news is reported four nights a week on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. As The Daily Show does routinely grill various newscasters, pundits, etc. on a nightly basis, it would be natural for them to want to grill Stewart on anything that they can.

So, when a District Attorney from San Bernardino County pointed out one factual error by Stewart on a segment on Ferguson, Fox News and the like had a field day.

Last night, Stewart admitted, on air, that he was wrong, but also pointed out that the field day that pundits were having on Stewart steered the conversation away from questioning the methods of the police and the lack of oversight on that,

Showtime Developing Corporate Espionage Comedy from David J. Rosen and Marc Webb

Showtime is really beefing up on the comedy side on these days. They already have Happyish recast with Steve Coogan, Cameron Crowe and his “Roadies” pilot, and Rachel Bloom starring in the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend pilot.

Now, they’re developing a corporate espionage comedy entitled Professionals from David J. Rosen and Marc Webb, who directed 500 Days of Summer. Perhaps, it’s somewhere along the lines of Michael Clayton as a comedy then?

Above all else, this might be more proof of how comedy as an entire genre is currently migrating in droves to cable and online.

Much to the surprise of everyone watching Nick Offerman make handcrafted wooden emojis on Conan recently, the wooden emojis were not available for sale.

However, enough people wanted to buy them that Conan O’Brien has partnered with Tilt.com to make a limited run of 100 of these wooden emojis and have all the proceeds go to the Children’s Defense Fund Action Council.

Conan and Andy Richter explain further here.

At a $100 a pop, they have already sold out. Perhaps, they’ll do more of this type of thing in the future and we can all get a screeching jet pack racoon like Amanda Seyfried.

Sony Hackers Demand “The Interview” Be Pulled

(via The Wrap)

The hacker group currently known as The Guardians of Peace behind the mass hacking of Sony have reportedly demanded, in a note, that The Interview, a movie following the assassination of North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un be pulled from being screened at all.

So far, it seems all of Sony, especially the top brass, is being doxxed in addition to Sony’s current theatrical releases being leaked. North Korea was suspected to have a connection with these hackers given how they’ve called The Interview “an act of terrorism” in past months, but they have denied any involvement.

Currently, The Interview is still scheduled for its Christmas release date.

A few things we’re wondering:

1) Have The Guardians of Peace or anyone in the North Korean government actually seen The Interview yet?
2) If they have, is it any good?
3) Would the U.S. Government or U.S. based hackers react to remotely the same degree if a foreign nation made a movie about assassinating our President?
4) Do they realize this is a comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who promised that they were not going to put too many dick jokes in their TV adaptation of Preacher for AMC and ruin it?
5) Could they have picked a worst time for the U.S. public to care about this whole ordeal with Ferguson, Eric Garner, Cosby, etc. happening right now?
6) While this hack is indeed damaging to Sony, The Interview will probably pull in a way bigger opening weekend now given all of this controversy.

USA Network Renewing “Playing House” For 2nd Season

Well, after the network sitcom bloodbath we had a few weeks ago, it’s refreshing to hear of a comedy series getting actually renewed. Luckily, the renewed series is USA Network’s Playing House starring Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, which, apparently did well on VOD platforms rather than being aired on USA.

So, it’ll return later in 2015 and episodes will hit VOD platforms before they actually air. If doing so becomes a trend for other shows because people don’t want to watch TV on air, we wouldn’t be surprised at all.
