HBO has a very intriguing addition to their comedy development slate with a comedy from Will & Grace’s Max Mutchnick based on a book by Laura Kightlinger.

So, it being at HBO and the book being about a single mom looking for a husband in the 70s from Kightlinger, it should make for a nice, ripe, dark comedy.

The release of Chris Rock’s Top Five is almost here, next Fri. on Dec. 12th to be precise.

You’ve seen and enjoyed all the “safe” trailers, but here’s an uncensored red band trailer that really gives you a taste of what’s to come with Rock’s latest and, as many are saying, greatest film yet.

Moshe Kasher Gives an Excellent Response to a Fox News Contributor Who Wrote Him a Letter to Say He Wasn’t Funny

December 4, 2014

Regular Fox News and CNN contributor Betsy Hart attended a live performance of Moshe Kasher’s recently with her daughter at Miami University and found it to be not to her liking. In fact, she not only didn’t like it, she didn’t find it funny… at all. This discovery of how unfunny she found Moshe Kasher prompted her to write him a letter personally telling Moshe how unfunny he is, referencing a bit, ironically enough, that is about how older generations have seen it all and there’s no need to censor yourself in their presence.

In most cases with most comedians, such a letter would be left to gather digital cobwebs in an e-mail archive, but Moshe felt the need to respond given Hart’s occupation and her insistence that she can “laugh at anything intelligent” amidst several other points in her letter.

Of course, Moshe’s response was brilliant and is a good template for any response to individuals who tell a comedian they aren’t funny, especially when the comedian has everyone else in the audience laughing.

Read both letters here in full.

Stewart offers some sincere insight into the tragedy plus time equation that is supposed to equal comedy. Watch it here.

Noah Baumbach brought us the wonderful Frances Ha latest year and on Mar. 27th 2015, he’s got another wry, though, possibly his most playful, comedy with his latest film While We’re Young coming out.

Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts play a middle-aged couple that starts hanging out with a couple in their 20s, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried, which should make for some nice cross generational humor.

Having been given a development deal by Fox to create alternative content, the guys from Lonely Island have, so far, put together three projects in development. One is sci-fi comedy with Danny Pudi, another is a mockumentary hosted Neal Brennan, and then there will be a hidden camera show from Andre Hyland (a thing that we think is long overdue).

The company that they’ve formed, almost to no surprise, is called Party Over Here. In case you’re wondering, we’re looking forward to all of this.

We thoroughly enjoyed the dark turn that Kristen Wiig had in The Skeleton Twins this year, so, naturally, we’re looking forward to another dark comedy starring her in 2015 in Welcome To Me.

In the movie, Wiig wins the lottery and then decides to make a TV show about herself, which seems like a perfect storm for a dark indie comedy.

The Third Season of “Kroll Show” Will Be Its Final Season

Conan O’Brien Made a Pretty Good Bill Cosby Joke Last Night

December 3, 2014
Uncategorized
allegations, bill cosby, conan, controversy, team coco, what's conan watching now

The entirety of comedy has been trying to deal with one of the most tragic falls of one of its own that it has ever had. That’s saying a lot given the very well known flaws of many comedians, but the counts upon counts upon counts of sexual assault and rape levied at Bill Cosby have been hard to process given how so many people held him in such high regard.

So, comedy is starting to do what it does best and bring some levity to the whole matter. You might have caught Seth Meyers do a meta-bit about doing a joke about the controversy surrounding Cosby or a quick one-liner from Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

Last night, Conan O’Brien delivered a Cosby joke within his What’s Conan Watching Now (around 1:12) segment on Conan.

As a Cosby biographer stated that he may to revise future editions of Cosby: His Life and Times, more live performances of Cosby are getting cancelled or are offering refunds before the shows even happen, Bill Cosby himself resigned from the Temple University Board of Trustees, and Bill Cosby himself only spoke up on the matter to say that he “…doesn’t have to answer to innuendos,” late night jokes on national television are seemingly only the beginning of what will be a hot button topic for comedians for the next several years.

Sony Developing a Comedy Centered Around a Shakespearean Theatre Company Starring Will Ferrell

The idea of Will Ferrell being in old English garb and going crazy with the subject matter of Shakespeare sounds pretty good to us which is why we’re excited for Sony’s latest feature development. They’ve just bought a feature pitch that follows the competitive world of Shakespearean theater and Will Ferrell is set to star.

If and when this movie gets set for distribution, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ferrell attempted doing a soliloquy of sorts on late night.
