The 2015 WGA Awards were handed out last night and the field of winners seems to be raising the least amount of snub talk this awards season. Lisa Kudrow To Host Writers Guild Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles
So, both Larry Wilmore and Lisa Kudrow will be hosting the WGA Awards on the East and West coasts respectively.
Both ceremonies in LA and NY will happen simultaneously on Feb. 14th and should be a good alternative to observing Valentine’s Day. Hopefully, Wilmore and Kudrow will pull off a bit technically co-hosting, but doing so across the country.
“Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Guardians of The Galaxy” Get Writers Guild Awards Nominations
Of all the nominations that have been announced in this current awards season, it seems the Writers Guild Awards has gone a somewhat different and refreshing direction. Already, they have Transparent, Last Week Tonight, and Inside Amy Schumer nominated for TV.
Grand Budapest Hotel is an awards front runner and gets a nod here, but Guardians of The Galaxy, a big budget studio comic book space adventure with plenty of comedy injected throughout, also gained a nomination from the WGA for Adapted Screenplay today.
Guardians of The Galaxy isn’t nominated in such a category in any other awards so far. Maybe, that will change now and other movies that are more readily described as “fun” will be taken more seriously by various academies and associations?
2015 Writers Guild Awards Announce TV Nominations
The 2015 Writers Guild Awards, which will be hosted by The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore, just announced their TV and radio nominations. Out of the gate, Transparent and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver got nominated in their first seasons while perennial nominees The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Louie, Veep, and The Colbert Report also got nominated.
Take note how cable and online shows are dominating the field at the WGA as all the comedy nominees include:
Bill Maher: Live From D.C.
Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles
The Colbert Report
Real Time with Bill Maher
Inside Amy Schumer
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Orange Is The New Black
Larry Wilmore Set to Host This Year’s Writers Guild Awards
Just as Stephen Colbert has picked up another hosting gig from The Kennedy Center on top of moving to The Late Show, Larry Wilmore will now be hosting The Writers Guild Awards in February in addition to his hosting duties at The Nightly Show.
By this time, Wilmore will have already started his post at The Nightly Show, which is making for a really good start to 2015 for Larry.
