10:30PM on TruTV.

Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl, and Ben Roy have made a name for themselves by virtue of their own stand-up as well as being part of their comedy group, The Grawlix. TruTV’s latest series Those Who Can’t is the culmination of all the years that they’ve spent making their bones in comedy packed into a really hysterical half-hour sitcom about teachers who don’t really have it together.

After having seen a handful of episodes, it’s definitely more than worth your while to catch this premiere. See why it already got renewed it for a second season tonight at 10:30PM on TruTV.

John Oliver’s Thoughts on The Super Bowl and the New Season of “Last Week Tonight”

Last Week Tonight finally returns this Sunday on HBO, so host John Oliver stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers.

On top of previewing what the gang at Last Week Tonight will be up to now that the 2016 Presidential Race is well underway, Oliver gives a great outsider perspective of how transcendent the Super Bowl is as well as questioning why Coldplay was there.

Thank goodness Sunday is only a few days away.

Second City Is Starting a Harold Ramis Film School

We’re kind of surprised that it took this long to have a comedy specific film school.

After surviving a fire last year, Second City in Chicago are expanding their operations to include a comedy film school program. They’re going to dedicate it (appropriately, we think) to the late Second City alumnus Harold Ramis and the one-year program promises to cover every bit of comedy in film from theory to history to practice.

We’ll be curious to see what Harold Ramis Film School alumni will crank out after they got their certificates and how it’ll stack up against top film schools across the country as well as what students of UCB, iO, etc. will be putting out.

Conan remains a champion of a stand-up comedy on late night where it’s sparing elsewhere. The other time honored late night tradition of having comedians return to perform is something else that Conan and company thankfully hold up.

Sharp, seasoned veterans like Adam Cayton-Holland make it worth Conan’s while.

Watch his 2nd Conan set here.

In Solid Premiere, More Watched “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” on Adult Swim Than TBS

February 10, 2016
Uncategorized

Turner made a smart bet by airing their new late night show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on all of its TV channel properties. However, they probably didn’t guess that more viewers would watch it on the niche network, Adult Swim, over TBS, where Full Frontal will reside.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, about a million watched it on Adult Swim versus the 600,000 that watched it on TBS. While that metric is telling of plenty in what Full Frontal’s initial audience will be, Turner should be happy with a solid debut of 2.2 million viewers on basic cable in the overnight ratings.

One should note how Samantha Bee covered the election as well as, if not better than other hosts in the late night club.

Following other late night launches at TBS over the years, including The Pete Holmes Show, Lopez Tonight, and Deon Cole’s Black Box, the fate of Full Frontal definitely seems hopeful right now.

Focusing less on interviews and more on innovative taped segments and Daily Show-esque ribbing of video packages worked for Last Week Tonight and Bee made it work in her inaugural episode.

Also, the ridiculing of the media for their often incorrect focus on her being a woman should prove for a good running gag for quite some time.

One of LA’s longest running midnight comedy shows hosted by one of LA’s comedy treasures, Ron Lynch, does a delightfully mutated version of The Dating Game in Hook-Up!

Based on Their Kickstarter Video Alone, You Should Back the Kickstarter for Literary Humor Magazine “Janice”

Sure, Janice is a humor magazine that has the likes of writers and editors (specifically, Matthew Brian Cohen, Ryan Haney, Maëlle Doliveux, Bradford Evans, Nick Ciarelli, Langan Kingsley) that have been featured frequently across the comedy universe including SNL’s Weekend Update, McSweeney’s, NY Times, and much much more and that should be enough to back their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

However, this video made for this campaign is a whole other reason that you should help them reach their $5K goal over the next two weeks to Feb. 24th.

So, what we’re saying is support a humor print magazine based on how great they make videos. It really does makes sense.

After stand-up, a multi-cam sitcom, and a late night talk show, George Lopez is now on to his own single camera “docu-follow” comedy series that follows his trials and tribulations, perhaps taking a couple of cues from Louie and Master of None, as one of the biggest Latino comedy stars that there has ever been.

Watch the very first teaser/promo here, then look for the series to premiere Wed. Mar. 30th on TV Land.

Jermaine is also going to be co-executive producer.

CBS is making good on their development deal with Jermaine Fowler and ordering a multi-cam sitcom pilot where he starts working at a donut shop in a neighborhood being gentrified.

We’re going to keep our fingers crossed as long as we can that this goes to series just so we can see Fowler on TV on a regular basis.

If you’re having a bad 2016 thus far, look forward to these.

If you don’t have a chance to catch either David Cross on his Making America Great Again tour or Kyle Kinane while he tours across the country this spring (and making a stop in Australia), fret not. At the end of each of their tours, they’ll be taping a brand new comedy special.

Cross will be taping his Making America Great Again special while at Austin’s Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival in The Paramount Theater on Fri. Apr. 22nd. Tickets go on sale Thurs. Feb. 11th here.

Kinane will be taping his latest special at The Metro in Chicago, IL on Sat. May 21st. Tickets for the 7:30PM and 11PM are now on sale.

OK, that should be enough advance warning to be able to catch both.

Either way, Conan does a pretty great job of sending up Newton and walk out that will probably haunt him forever.

If you don’t have Hulu or a Hulu password, this might a pretty good reason to get one.

Along this 2016 election’s campaign trail, the presence of a certain Yugoslavian Mountain Hound, his precarious cigar, and razor sharp tongue come in at a kind of a perfect time.

Robert Smigel’s Triumph the Insult Comic Dog went and made an election special that’s not streaming on Hulu and might be as productive as watching some of the debates.

If you have Hulu, you can stream the election special right now, right here.

Andy Richter to Host Jimmy Kimmel-Produced Game Show “Big Fan”

Uncategorized

Maybe Andy Richter will shine like Steve Harvey does as a game show host on Family Feud?

The idea stemmed from a game that Jimmy Kimmel plays on Jimmy Kimmel Live where a celebrity is challenged to a trivia match against one of their own super fans. Kimmel has now gotten it to be its own series, not unlike Fallon has done with Lip Sync Battle, at ABC.

It’s a weekly game show, so we’re going to assume Richter will retain his role as Conan’s sidekick.
