We’re sure someone is working on a graph how their quality of life has improved since CBB started to its quadricentennial.

For years, Scott Aukerman and a horde of special guests that include some of the funniest people around have brought hours and hours of unfiltered silliness in the form of Comedy Bang! Bang! Today, they’ve reached their 400th episode, which features CBB favorites Jason Mantzoukas and Andy Daly,

They don’t look they’re going to slow down either as Comedy Bang! Bang! is going on a tour across North America including stops in Toronto, Austin, Boston, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, San Francisco, Philadelphia, NYC, and more throughout May.

Frequent CBB guests like Paul F. Tompkins and Lauren Lapkus will be featured on the tour.

RIP Our Daily ‘LA Comedy Rundown’ (Don’t Worry-We’ve Still Got the Same Great, Daily Comedy Listings)

That’s right. We’re nixing our daily comedy rundown that you’ve probably come very acquainted with, especially if you’re following us on Tumblr. Because we’ve still got a sliver of a staff here at The Comedy Bureau, we need to allocate our time as best as we can, which involves other Comedy Bureau functions outside of typing up the listings that we’ve already typed up.

That’s also right. Full listings of LA comedy shows and open mics along with corresponding maps are all available (and have been available this whole time) over at www.thecomedybureau.com.

So, bookmark www.thecomedybureau.com to get the same great comedy listings for the Greater Los Angeles Area that we’ve brought you over the last five years.

Also, take a moment of silence for the LA Comedy Rundown since we’ve spent countless hours doing that every single day.

Apparently, Jim Gaffigan Is Now KFC’s Colonel Sanders

Just over the last few months, KFC has been up to something besides chicken.

Every time you look, they have a new comedian playing the iconic Colonel Sanders. First, it was Darrell Hammond, then it was Norm MacDonald, and now, in the short span of a few months, Jim Gaffigan is now the Colonel.

Something, really meta and absurd is going on here as evidence by this kind-of-farewell by the Norm version of Colonel Sanders.

Whatever it is, we’re really into it and wish it would get even weirder.

SNL’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Parody with Larry David Might Be the Closest Thing to New ‘Curb’

February 7, 2016
Uncategorized

With Larry David hosting last night’s SNL, it’s imperative that the show do something involving Larry’s HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm and/or Larry as Bernie Sanders, since he was such a hit doing it the first time this season.

Thus SNL checked off two boxes with one Bern Your Enthusiasm.

It definitely plays more like an episode of Curb than a Bernie Sanders sketch, but, ehh, you’re probably ok with that.

RIP The Voice Behind Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck and Bob from ‘Bob and Ray’

February 7, 2016
Uncategorized
bob and ray, bob elliott, bugs bunny, daffy duck, joe alaskey, looney tunes

This week, the comedy world lost Joe Alaskey and Bob Elliott.

Alaskey was most noted for voicing some of Warner Bros. most beloved characters after the legendary Mel Blanc including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester the Cat, and Tweety Bird as well as voicing roles in Rugrats and Tom and Jerry just to name a very few. He passed away at 63 this week.

Bob Elliott, father to Chris Elliott and grandfather to Abby Elliott, was one half of one of the longest running duos in the history of comedy. With his partner Ray Goulding, Bob has performed on radio, TV, movies, and Broadway all the way back to the 1940s. It’s hard to think of such an achievement ever being bested these days. As noted above, Bob Elliott heads a sort of comedy dynasty. Bob passed away at 92 at the beginning of this week.

May the memory of their comedy live on as you’re probably looking both of them up on Wikipedia and YouTube right now.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele got some ridiculous get-ups, ridiculous hair-dos, and plenty of top notch riffing coming during Super Bowl Sunday tomorrow.

This whole “Real Talk” event is in promotion of website building platform Squarespace (they made a whole website for this whole promotional stunt), which might be better than dropping several million for 30 seconds of commercial air time.

So, maybe mute the TV except for the commercials and have this running over the game instead?

“Hail, Caesar” in Theaters Today (You Should Go See It)

The Coen Brothers’ latest offering Hail, Caesar! has just made its way into theaters today and it really is (and we’re not saying this lightly) one of their best.

Every bit of their signature dry humor that has found its way into even their grimmest dramas served itself very well throughout and the Coens spectacularly reveled in Hollywood’s Golden Age, lavish musical numbers, warts, and all. The stellar ensemble cast lives up to expectations including a nimble Channing Tatum in an intricate, decidedly non-Magic Mike dance routine.

Woven through all of that is some pretty great socio-economic, political, and spiritual commentary that puts Hail, Caesar! up there in the Coen Brothers canon with The Big Lebowski.

If you wanna catch it in LA, here are LA showtimes.

“Orange Is The New Black” Gets 3 More Seasons at Netflix

Uncategorized

(via E! Online)

Following their recent wins this awards season, Orange Is The New Black is going to stick around as a perennial awards season favorite.

Months before season 4 of Orange Is The New Black starts streaming on Netflix, seasons 5-7 have just been ordered, which is pretty much unprecedented for TV series these days. In fact, it’s often news if a TV series makes it to the end of a TV season without incident (i.e. getting cancelled, having showrunners switched out, etc.).

While the issue of what Netflix’s metrics are for ratings are still up for debate amongst the viewing public (mainly competing linear TV networks), a 3 season pick up should be a pretty good indication that a show is doing well.

Nicole Byer, Jessica McKenna, and Alison Rich Will Star in a New, Lonely Island-Produced, Paul Scheer-Directed Sketch Variety Series “Party Over Here” at Fox

(via Deadline)

Though it’s going to air on Saturdays, it’s not going against SNL.

Party Over Here, which is also the name of The Lonely Island’s production company, will be the new late night sketch show that will run on Fox’s schedule. For years, Fox didn’t have any late night programming to really speak of and let their last sketch series, Mad TV, live in the shadow of what all its cast did after the show ended (i.e. Key & Peele).

This time around, Fox has plenty of comedy fan buzzworthy talent in the ranks of Party Over Here. Not only are The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer) executive producing the series, but Paul Scheer is directing and the aforementioned Nicole Byer, Jessica McKenna, and Alison Rich, who have all gained comedic notoriety on their own over the last few years, are headlining the cast.

The series is set for a Sat. Mar. 12th premiere at 11PM and will very notably not air against Saturday Night Live. Party Over Here will only be a half hour and also not broadcast live.

All of those moves are probably for the best.
