Get Your First Look at That Musical Finale to Transparent

July 29, 2019
Uncategorized
amazon primie, musical finale, trailer, transparent

You might have wondered what Transparent would do post-Jeffrey Tambor.

Then, you might have read about this angle of closing out the series with a full on musical.

Indeed, that’s what is happening and the trailer for this musical finale was just released over the weekend. Having watched it ourselves a few times, we have to say might just be one of those things that’s just crazy enough to work. The conceit of how they somewhat realistically fit the musical into the plot is pretty damn clever and the dark, grounded sense of humor seems to remain.

See for yourself here, then look for the premiere on Sept. 27th on Amazon Prime.

Well, we’d like to say that we gave you fair warning that Candice Thompson was on the rise a few years ago with our compilation album Comedians of Interest Vol. 1 where she was one of six personally handpicked acts.

Now, she has two late night sets under her belt along with writing on the new David Spade late night show, Lights Out.

So, this is just another friendly reminder to hop on board the  Candice-Thompson-train as it’s pretty great. See for yourself with this set from last Friday’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

This weekend, she’ll be returning to SoCal by playing a whole weekend of shows at the Ontario Improv (five shows to be specific). They’re all $20 (plus 2 item min.) and you really ought to go get them here, so you can see Sam Jay do a headlining set.

If this sounds pretty nice to you, get all the details here.

Looks like Danny McBride, John Goodman, Adam Devine, and Edi Patterson are going to serve up something, if we may, so damn “righteous” in this televangelist family satire, The Righteous Gemstones. Every bit we see of this looks like the perfect follow-up for McBride after Vice Principals and, thankfully, the premiere isn’t too far from now on Aug. 18th on HBO.

In the meantime, please enjoy the full trailer for The Righteous Gemstones here.

Big Mouth To Get 3 More Seasons at Netflix

BIG MOUTH HAS BEEN PICKED UP FOR 3 MORE SEASONS!!! Thank you to our writers, cast, crew, Netflix and everyone around the world who watches the show!

–@nickkroll

Announced today, the ultra honest, magical realism of Big Mouth will get to live on for quite some more time at Netflix. We’re looking forward to whatever Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett have up their sleeve, but we do wonder how far they’ll let all the characters (and their corresponding monsters) grow up.

Also, we’re sure Kroll will dazzle us all by voicing a dozen more characters at least.

So, you shouldn’t miss a chance to see her headline, which will be happening next month at Dynasty Typewriter. Tickets are $20 if you snag ‘em now! Do so here.

‘Los Espookys’ Renewed For Season 2 By HBO

Though one highly imaginative comedy got cancelled today probably before it should have (Tuca & Bertie), another one, Los Espookys, got another season to live.

Fred Armisen, Julio Torres, and Ana Fabrega came up with some wildly different that we can only intensely wonder what they’ll shoot for in season two. In the meantime, dip your toe into the weird and cheeky waters of the first season Los Espookys.

Good Talk with Anthony Jeselnik Trailer Aims for a Much More “Serious” Sort of Talk Show

Anthony Jeselnik is not only returning to TV with a brand new show, but doing so in much more classed up (and more vulnerable?) way.

Rather than all flash and histrionics of The Jeselnik Offensive, his new talk show, Good Talk with Anthony Jeselnik puts on much more refined airs (just look at all that dark wood interior) and has Anthony, as advertised, having a good, “serious” talk with comedians. This will likely show a bit more of the ever elusive “real” Anthony as well as something a tad bit different in the talk show realm (you can’t imagine Anthony just doing a “normal” late night interview, can you?).

Just see for yourself in the trailer here, then look for Good Talk with Anthony Jeselnik to premiere on Comedy Central on Sept. 6th.

Dave Ross was one of the first comedians we ever met in LA and one that we’ve delighted in watching from the get go. This set, which just happens to be Dave’s first TV set, is particularly fun as Dave takes on PETA and does one of our favorite closing bits. Also, there’s an unmistakable command of the stage while Dave maintains a charming looseness that we really love.

Additionally, it seems as if Dave had James Corden intro him as “the only man who ever had sex”? Round of applause for that.

So, please enjoy Dave Ross’ first televised stand-up set on The Late Late Show with James Corden here.

Hulu’s Got a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Series in the Works

The beloved series of Douglas Adams novels known as the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy once got a feature film adaptation all the way back in 2005. After nearly 15 years, it looks the novels are due for another adaptation, though, this time, as a potential TV series via Hulu (which may be what’s best as opposed to trying to cram as much of the books into a feature length film).

This project is still in its early stages and we don’t know exactly what it’ll look like or even they’ll be tapping for their cast. However, it does seem like a good time for a comedy about having to leave earth.

See Taika Waititi as an Imaginary Hitler in First Teaser for “JoJo Rabbit”

Taika Waititi has built up such a lovely resume with everything from What We Do In the Shadows to Hunt for the Wilderpeople to Thor: Ragnarok that he can really swing big, which is what he seems to be doing with his latest, JoJo Rabbit.

JoJo Rabbit follows a timid young child in Nazi Germany that ends up having an imaginary friend in the visage of Adolf Hitler, albeit a goofy one played by Taika. The premise has the titular JoJo reckon with himself as he finds his mother is hiding a Jewish girl. Billed as an “anti-hate satire” (perhaps the first time that’s ever been a phrase?), Waititi continues to have our interest peaked here. The tone and satirical walking-the-line seems like anything else we’ve seen before just from this teaser (we can only imagine what lies ahead with a full trailer).

See for yourself here with the just released teaser, then look for JoJo Rabbit in theaters on Oct. 18th.

Natalie Palamides has really pushed herself to new thrilling and hysterical territory with her solo show, NATE. Audiences and critics around the world (including some of the most prestigious comedy and performance festivals) agree in being awestruck with Natalie’s work here where she satirizes masculinity in such a daring way.

For years now, Moshe Kasher and Natasha Leggero, as a comedy power couple, have been dishing out pretty hilarious and insightful advice about relationships. In fact, a third of their Honeymoon Stand Up Special on Netflix is dedicated to Moshe and Natasha hilariously helping/roasting couples and their issues.

Now, they’ve started to do that in podcast form with The Endless Honeymoon Podcast, which includes discussions of their own quarrels, guests (the first of which is TigerBelly’s Bobby Lee and Khalyla), live call-in questions, and a wondrous display of how sharp, quick, and damn funny both Moshe and Natasha really are. That, for our money, is what would likely make this stand-out from all other relationship advice podcasts.

So, get into The Endless Honeymoon Podcast here or wherever you get your podcasts.

Tammercise is simultaneously an actual aerobics class that you can join and solo comedy performance that follows a woman trying to, well, you know, just keep it together. Truly, it’s a wonderful and weird time (shout out to Madeline Wager)

You can also just watch as other colorful-spandex-laden Tammercisers become part of the experience. If you do choose to join in the workout (we’ve even seen people attempt doing so with a full beer in the their hand), you will work up a legitimate sweat.

Get more details for the next Tammercise at DTLA’s Angel City Brewery next weekend here.
