The Summer Olympics is coming up soon and, along with it, the discussion of doping will come with it, especially since entire teams have been banned since testing positive for doping.

John Oliver and his team at Last Week Tonight broke down why it’s still such an issue despite plenty of measures being taken to prohibit the use of performance enhancing substances.

They also found the dude with the worst job in the IOC while they were at it.

For some reason, this great sketch on Inside Amy Schumer featuring Jon Benjamin as a lawyer who can’t do anything about mass shootings was cut from airing even though gun control is absolutely the hot button issue in the U.S. right now.

All the filibustering, sit-ins, and general demand from an overwhelming majority of Americans for any sort of action on gun control make the sketch so timely that it has now been posted online.

Taika Waititi Scores Again with “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”

We’re pretty sure you fell in love with the vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows.

If that is indeed the case, then we’re confident that you’ll definitely dig the latest film from Taika Waititi (co-writer, co-director, co-star of What We Do in The Shadows), Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Based on the book Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump, Waititi wrote and directed a film that is as full of heart as it is with wisecracking spunk. It’s a tale of a runaway, wannabe gangster, foster kid living in ‘the bush’ in New Zealand giving the backdrop of New Zealand a different use than the Lord of the Rings movies. Julian Dennison, who plays the kid, lives up to the role of Ricky Baker exquisitely and the gruff Sam Neill is a perfect juxtaposition as a quiet, reformed ex-con. Rhys Darby also make a pretty memorable cameo as someone living completely off the grid.

Watch the trailer here, then look for it in theaters in limited release starting this Friday, June 24th.

For Spiderman, the maxim goes, “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

For Difficult People starring Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner, the saying probably goes, “Difficult, huh? With just a little bit of power, I’ll show you what being difficult really is and you’ll regret ever saying that I was ever difficult.”

Dinosaur Presents “Computer Man”, a Short Film Based in a 90′s Style Adventure Game Seemingly Written While on Drugs

If you’re into the manic, intentionally campy, alternative history comedy of Danger 5, you’ll undoubtedly dig the latest work from Dinosaur, the folks that thankfully brought Danger 5 into this world.

It’s a short film called “Computer Man” that takes place entirely in the 90s choose-your-own-adventure style computer game. However, the game is one that would undoubtedly be rated MA (or in the context of you reading this, NSFW) and definitely stays on Dinosaur’s absurdist branding.

Prepare yourself for a basic graphics acid trip and watch it here.

Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Renews Deal at Universal Television

June 23, 2016

(via Variety)

Quietly, Amy Poehler has become as powerful behind the camera as she is in front of it.

Amy Poehler’s production company, Paper Kite, had signed an overall deal two years ago and just re-upped with NBC Universal’s Universal Television.

Earlier this week, there was a first look deal made with Universal Cable Productions and the Upright Citizens Brigade, which Amy is a founding member of.

All of this means that Poehler’s reach to develop shows and content could potentially extend across the entirety of NBC Universal’s television portfolio from broadcast to cable to digital. That’s a pretty rare position to be in as far as we’re aware of.

Now that we think about it, Amy may be more powerful behind the camera these days.

(via The Wrap)

Cable networks come up big versus networks yet again.

The Television Critics’ Association have just announced the nominees for the 2016 TCA Awards. For comedy, they are (*comedy nominees in italics):

INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT IN COMEDY
Aziz Ansari, “Master of None,” Netflix
Samantha Bee, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” TBS

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN COMEDY

“Veep,” HBO
“You’re The Worst” FXX

HERITAGE AWARD
“The Larry Sanders Show,” HBO
“The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” CBS
“Seinfeld,” NBC

“Star Trek,” NBC
“Twin Peaks,” ABC

Outside of ABC scoring a nomination each for black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat and Seinfeld being up for a ‘Heritage Award’, cable networks dominated the TCA nominations for comedy with shows like You’re The Worst, Silicon Valley, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Veep. In fact, they even outperformed streaming services in comedy, which were lead solely by Master of None.

We’re glad to see Samantha Bee, who has hit the ground in a full-tilt sprint since her show Full Frontal premiered on TBS earlier this year, is getting a deserving nod here as well.

Given how expansive TV is, even from last year, we’re going to guess that this won’t be too much of barometer for what the rest of the awards season holds for TV comedies.

The rest of the nominees are listed here.
