Stephen Colbert Enlists Laura Benanti for Melania Trump Speech “Apology” That Is “100%” Original

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is on the ball with satirizing the GOP convention in Cleveland.

You might have heard Melania Trump’s speech at the convention was claimed to be lifted from Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech causing a ‘yuge’ fallout. Please note that Melania insisted she wrote the speech and today, the speech writer (who is actually not Melania) apologized for indeed taking cues from Michelle Obama at the direction of Melania.

That makes this cold open to last night’s Late Show all the more damning.

Also, props to Laura Benanti for doing top notch job impersonating Melania. There are times when you’re not even sure if it’s an impersonator or not in this bit.

(via Deadline)

From Happy Days to Laverne & Shirley to Mork & Mindy to The Odd Couple to The Dick Van Dyke Show to Pretty Woman to Beaches to The Princess Diaries to Runaway Bride to Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Louie to BoJack Horseman to The Simpsons and way more as a writer, director, producer, and/or actor, Garry Marshall pretty much did almost all that you could do in Hollywood over several decades.

Marshall passed away yesterday as a result of pneumonia complications after a stroke at the age of 81.

Whether you’re familiar with the work mentioned above or not, you should rewatch or introduce yourself to it as Marshall has left an indelible mark on comedy on film and television.

Chris Matthews Parody “Loudbox” with James Adomian and Anthony Atamanuik Shows Republican Leaders Want the Convention to Be Over Already

As Bernie Sanders has effectively dropped out of the presidential race, Anthony Atamanuik and James Adomian, the duo behind Trump vs Bernie, have to put their brilliant political comedy minds to use in another direction right now.

That direction now happens to be a parody of Chris Matthews, played by Adomian, interviewing a panel of Senator John McCain, Marco Rubio, and Reince Priebus, respectively played by Atamanuik, Ithamar Enriquez, and John Mihiser.

Together, they try to turn a blind eye while the Republican National Convention welcomes Donald Trump as their presidential nominee.

Go “Behind the Scenes” of Tribune Publishing’s TRONC Rebranding Video

The recent rebranding of media giant Tribune Publishing into TRONC has run into a mixed reception.

Some of that might have to do with their awkward official rebranding video.

Ad Hoc, which parodies ad campaigns, got “an inside look” as to why that rebranding video is so esoteric even though it’s trying to be broad at the same time (with a great assist from one of our favorites, Eric Dadourian).

It’s cleverly called Take My Wife, starts streaming on Seeso on Thursday, August 11th, and we personally can’t wait for that date to come around the corner.

In the meantime, here’s the trailer for Take My Wife.

Do note plenty of great cameos from Paul F. Tompkins, James Adomian, Laura Kightlinger, Ron Funches, Jonah Ray, and more in aforementioned trailer.

Arguably, it’s what you should be looking forward to if you wanted to see more Louie as Pamela Adlon, who played Louie’s on-again-off-again love interest, stars in this series that looks for a similar dramedic, Louie-esque tone.

Look for the series to premiere on Thursday, September 8th.

The folks at Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers (Emmy nominated now by the way) live up to their name in their dissection of the latest film in the DC Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, by highlighting all the good, the bad, and the unnecessarily ridiculous and complicated things about the movie that made it almost impossible to be 100% success, all in punchy joke form.

It doesn’t disappoint after their great Honest Teaser of Batman v Superman.

Samantha Bee Is Finally Back from Hiatus and Explores the Disaster Waiting to Happen at RNC

You’re going to get a lot of comedy crossing paths with the political party conventions over the next two weeks.

Thankfully, out of the gate, Colbert and Samantha Bee have gone in depth at the RNC first. Bee went to Cleveland and tried to find out why, specifically, there’s a looming sense of chaos about the whole event. Spoiler alert: there are plenty of reasons.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee has been off for what seems like way too long as Bee has quickly positioned herself as a voice in late night who people want to hear in times of crisis.

Her breakdown of the start of the RNC and Trump’s VP pick Mike Pence is a good example of this.

That’s right, Stephen Colbert pulled out all the stops in his live broadcast of The Late Show last night, following the kick-off of the Republican National Convention.

Not only did he have his former boss, Jon Stewart, do a fun bit, but he also brought back Stephen Colbert, the character, for The Colbert Report segment “The Word”.

Also, Colbert went on a tour through the RNC set up at Quicken Loans Arena and roasted the whole venue as Julius Flickerman in a new Hungry for Power Games segment. He indeed did take the stage when he probably wasn’t supposed to.

All in all, we hope Stephen keeps up this pace for his convention coverage.

The Comedy Central web series version of Ian Abramson’s brilliant show 7 Minutes in Purgatory, where comics do a set while separated from a live audience and can’t hear their laughter while that audience can watch remotely, is finally here.

With Comedy Central footing the bill, Ian got a truck outside of the venue to sequester the performers away from the audience so there is absolutely no way that the comedians can hear the audience (on top of noise cancelling ear protection).

Watch what happens when you stick Nick Vatterott…

…host Ian Abramson…

…Dave Hill…

Bonnie McFarlane Returns to “The Late Show”, This Time with Stephen Colbert as Host

July 17, 2016
Uncategorized

In this new era of late night, you might know that stand-up comedy being featured is a much different beast than it used to be in the heyday of Leno and Letterman.

Sensibilities are different, the times, they are a changin’, there are less slots for stand-ups on late night, and a literal “tight five” is a thing of the past. Since comedy is more expansive than it’s ever been and the access, thanks to the Internet, is greater than it has ever been, it’s much harder to stand out.

That being said, Bonnie McFarlane is a good example of someone who bridges this specific gap. She is one of the few women who got to perform stand-up on Letterman and this past week, she just got another great set on The Late Show with its new host Stephen Colbert. As of now, only a few other comedians, Jerry Seinfeld and Nick Griffin, have gotten the distinction of performing on both Letterman and Colbert.

Watch Bonnie’s latest Late Show set and see what we’re talking about here.

Danny McBride and Walton Goggins Make Their Debut as Two of the Most Conniving “Vice Principals” Ever Tonight

10:30PM on HBO.

The series premiere of Vice Principals is tonight on HBO and, having gotten to see a sneak preview of the first two episodes, we’ll say that Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and David Gordon Green probably exceed whatever expectations you have for the series.

All of the unapologetic buffoonery from Eastbound and Down comes to the setting of a high school, but what makes the series especially exciting is that you know that it’s only going to last 18 episodes. Because of that, there’s an even juicier tension through the catastrophic shenanigans between McBride and Goggins trying to become the lone principal as their days are numbered.

Again, watch it at 10:30PM tonight.
