‘Conan’ Returning To Comic-Con In 2017

Between the big live shows, his own custom made superhero costume, new sets of Pop Vinyl figurines every year, and getting to roam free around the convention as only Conan O’Brien does, we think this tradition should never end so long as Conan is doing his show.

Mike Birbiglia is great for a lot of reasons.

Watch his latest movie Don’t Think Twice playing in limited release now and you can see plenty of those reasons.

Another reason is this great corollary that Mike adds to a Jimmy Fallon story that Jimmy tells on The Tonight Show.

Pokémon GO fever has really swept the nation, perhaps even more so than when Pokémon was first brought into the U.S. several years ago. Much of that has to do with the augmented reality mobile app’s appeal across several age demographics including plenty of adults.

As with any trendy obsession, it can go too far.

Writer Jackie Jennings, director Peter Kelly, and actors Becky Chicoine and Dan Chamberlain, and Above Average show where one could be on the brink of ruining one’s life by spending too much time trying to catch ‘em all.

Watch Eric Andre Troll Alex Jones, Convention Goers, and Everyone Else at the RNC

Everyone in comedy seems to be focused on or actually in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention.

That includes Adult Swim’s own meta talk show parody mad man Eric Andre.

Andre went through the RNC and conducted himself with business as usual in being as absurd as possible. Such highlights of Eric’s visit include actually interrupting controversial radio host Alex Jones during a speech and introducing convention goers to “Peppercorn Bing Bong”.

Note how this all seems less crazy than Trump, Giuliani’s speech, Chris Christie’s “guilty” chant, etc.

It’s awhile, but it just might be worth the wait.

Jon Stewart Basically Does 10 Minutes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

If you’ve been pining for Jon Stewart to do what he does best in this election year, pine no more.

Last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jon took over the desk, albeit in a little more casual attire, and gave us all a beautiful 10 minutes of classic Daily Show with Jon Stewart goodness that picked apart Sean Hannity’s praise of Trump in comparison to Hannity’s criticisms of Obama.

Yes, that includes burns on Arby’s, making fun of the way Trump eats pizza, and a Rant done only the way Stewart can do it.

Please enjoy this gift from Jon Stewart that we can only hope that we get more of soon under his HBO deal.

Like all good art scenes, the LA comedy scene is always growing, changing, and evolving whether it be comedians moving up the ranks, new bookers shaking things up at some of the city’s most established clubs, or groups of like minded folks striking out on their own to do their thing.

The Pack Theater, which just opened up as full time comedy theater, looks to continue that pioneering spirit.

Founded by renowned improviser Miles Stroth, The Pack will have shows 7 nights a week that run the gamut of improv, sketch, stand-up, everything in between, and everything outside of that. There will even be opportunities for classes (taught by the likes of Stroth, Heather Anne Campbell, Eric Moneypenny, and Sam Brown just to a name a few of their faculty that are among the funniest in their comedic discipline) and open mics (that includes sketch open mics and improv jams as well as stand-up) to be inclusive for all levels of performers, an important aspect of existing as new comedy theater in Los Angeles.

For a few months, The Pack has already been putting on pretty swell shows with their aforementioned faculty, solid sketch and improv house teams, and some of the best all around comedians you get to know in LA. It really seems to echo the early, DIY, more rebellious days of UCB and, as you can probably guess, we’re excited to what else they’ve got cooking.

This Saturday, they’ve got a gigantic show to really kick off their opening called PackCon featuring the likes of Bob Odenkirk, Adam McKay, The Whitest Kids U Know, Ian Roberts, Matt Jones (Breaking Bad), Nick Thune, Ron Lynch, Maribeth Monroe (Workaholics), John Gemberling (Broad City), EpicLloyd (Epic Rap Battles of History), John Ennis (Mr. Show), Alison Rich (Party Over Here), Shelly Gossman (SNL), Josh Fadem, Brent Weinbach and way more. From 5PM to midnight or maybe even later, we have no doubt it’ll be a hell of a ride.

The Pack Theater is located in Hollywood at 6470 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA and you can get more info here, follow them on Twitter and Instagram @packtheater or on Facebook.

Best of all, all the shows will be pay-what-you-can for admission.

The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival returns as one of the biggest comedy touring festivals ever.

It’s interesting that they went with the bold red font for top billed acts and listed the line-up alphabetically instead of doing the traditional top-to-bottom-big-name-to-up-and-coming. It’s one way to be an oddball we suppose.

Delegates That Are Still for Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz Get Highlighted on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

Most logic has been thrown out of the window for this election year and a good majority of people seem to want to just go with their gut when picking the next leader of the free world.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee found two delegates that take that idea to the nth degree on both sides of the spectrum. One person who is still backing Ted Cruz and the other backing Bernie Sanders even though the adjectives of official and presumptive have been permanently affixed to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

It’s more fantastic work from Full Frontal. Watch it here.

Hari Kondabolu’s “Mainstream America Comic” Should Definitely Be Your Next Comedy Album

July 21, 2016

When it comes to issues of politics and social justice, Hari Kondabolu has really set himself apart greatly from the run-of-the-mill political humor and social satire. His latest album Mainstream American Comic exemplifies his brilliant writing that skews very liberal, but also keeps an open mind, hence one clever layer of the title.

For this new hour, Hari dives head first into hot button issues like race, gender, and the election as well as even higher brow topics like modern art and the surgeon general, but always manages to keep his jokes sharp at every level and facet, which Hari makes sure there are plenty of.

Here’s a preview to show you what we’re talking about.

Mainstream American Comic comes out tomorrow, Friday, July 22nd, off of Kill Rock Stars, but you can pre-order (or order depending when you’re reading this) it right now with a collector’s mug.

Still, even in comfy, casual wear, Black gives you all would want/handle with his thoughts on the RNC on The Late Show with his old Daily Show compatriot, Stephen Colbert.
