Please Help Wendy McColm Finish Her Feature Film “Birds Without Feathers”

Basically, Wendy McColm is a great filmmaker and actress on the rise whose work you’ve might seen and enjoyed, like we have, at Channel 101 and she and her feature film need your help.

She is currently working on completing a feature length dark comedy called Birds Without Feathers and is trying to raise $10K worth of finishing funds. As of this post, she has just over $4K of it raised with three weeks to go.

You can watch the Kickstater campaign video to see herself, the cast, DP, and other crew really explain to you why it might be worth donating $10 for a digital download of the movie.

In case you need a little more convincing of putting your money down for this, here’s one of our favorites, I Am Radio, from her unique body of work.

Amy sticks to her unflinchingly honest brand of comedy in this collection of personal essays that will give you as deep a look into Amy’s life as she has probably ever given.

Wherever books are sold, you can get it in hardcover as well as getting it on Kindle or as an audiobook on Audible or even on CD.

Honest Trailers Looks Back at “Gladiator”, the Gladiator Movie of the 2000s

Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers goes all the way back to the year 2000 (yeah, that’s awhile back now) for their latest work to when Ridley Scott’s Gladiator set the standard, for better or worst, for all sword-and-sandal movies of the 21st century.

They also remind of us of how cringeworthy pop culture was back in at the turn of the millennium.

Kurt Braunohler indeed is taping an hour long stand-up special for Comedy Central. Called Trust Me, he’ll be taping it in Portland, OR at Revolution Hall on Saturday, September 24th.

Given his skywriting, jet skiing, driving a giant butt cross country, and other such large scale acts of absurdity, we personally can’t wait to see what Kurt does with an hour of stand-up on national television.

If you can go, you should go and you can get free tickets here.

Ahamed Weinberg will be a name that you’ll probably be seeing more of soon (and not just because we keep posting about him). Having just got New Faces at JFL Montreal, Weinberg has also really honed his skills as a comedic filmmaker that we routinely enjoy.

Here’s his latest work, “Lump”.

Finland to Get Local Version of ‘The Office’

If you’re keeping score, this will be the 9th version of The Office joining the original from the UK, the U.S. version, and versions from France, Quebec, Chile, Israel, Germany, and Sweden.

As far as British comedy being translated to territories around the globe that’s a pretty singular feat. Eddie Izzard has not even learned to do stand-up in that many languages yet.

Chris Garcia, a Comedian You Should Definitely Know About, Made One of Those ‘Everyday’ Montages of His Amazing Past Year

Four years ago, one Rory Scovel made a montage of video that he had captured everyday for an entire year. The result was a pretty amazing glimpse into the life of what a modern working comedian is like.

After that, Brooks Wheelan made an ‘everyday montage’ showing his whirlwind life getting hired on SNL and everything in between.

Now, Chris Garcia, one of our favorite comedians whose name should be on the tip of your tongue if it’s not already, just made his very own ‘everyday’ montage that shows him globetrotting from Dubai to all around LA to Hawaii for comedy as well as a stop to Cuba to get in touch with his roots. Like Brooks and Rory’s, it’s a look unlike you’d ever normally see what Garcia’s life is, day in, night out over the last 365 days.

Finally, the world now has a Henry Phillips special at its finger tips. For years, we’ve enjoyed Henry’s sly hijinks-laden humor and in Neither Here Nor There, directed by Steve Feinartz, that wonderfully mischievous spirit has been crafted into a very solid hour of stand-up and musical comedy.

Do yourself a favor and spend either $7.99 to stream and download Neither Here Nor There or $4.99 to stream over a 48 hour period right over at Vimeo on Demand.

‘Transparent’  Writer Ethan Kuperberg and Creator Jill Soloway Are Developing a Musical Comedy for Amazon

Given the plotline of “a woman’s search for love and self-discovery in Los Angeles,” we’d be curious to see if this musical comedy might have a drastically different take on a musical rom com than the award winning one set 18 miles away in West Covina known as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Jill Soloway being attached to the project and it being developed at Amazon should allow for the creative room for this project to be something we haven’t ever seen before.

While coming out to friends and family as an LGBTQ person is often welcomed with support these days, there are still knuckleheads who don’t know how to handle themselves in that situation.

This short film, Coming Out, written by and featuring Anthony Gioe and Nick Mandernach is about one of those knuckleheads who is spectacular at, spoiler alert, being a knucklehead. Also note, fine performances from Kale Hills and Rose O’Shea and direction from Ian Brennan.

All Six Seasons of Community Are Now Streaming Exclusively on Hulu

It has been a long and winding road for Community going from NBC to Yahoo to, now, Hulu, especially having started off as a network sitcom and living through the rise of streaming services. Anyone still hoping for that #sixseasonsandamovie?

With that in mind, note how Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and others seem to be stockpiling TV series in their entirety when the majority of TV audiences become cut the cord to cable.

‘The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore’ Canceled By Comedy Central

The post-Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert era for Comedy Central’s late night line-up has proven beguiling. Aside from @midnight with Chris Hardwick, reception for Trevor Noah as the host of The Daily Show has been mixed and, apparently, ratings for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore have not been what Comedy Central brass was hoping for.

Thus, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is no more and Comedy Central is on the hunt for a new 11:30PM show. There is no indication as what that show might be or who they might be going after, but, like it was when Colbert left for The Late Show, Comedy Central has another chance to break even more new ground here if they choose wisely.

With the election looming in November, we’d be curious to see if something might get fast tracked just to not miss out debates, election day, etc.

Seeso Is Importing Another Fun, Bizarre Aussie Series, “Soul Mates”

In their ongoing quest to be a worthy streaming service that only deals in comedy, Seeso has made sure to include plenty of programming from across both the Atlantic and Pacific.

A lot of UK and Aussie comedy from yesteryear to now (and even a few years ago) are currently getting their U.S. exposure through Seeso exclusively.

The latest acquisition comes by way of Australia from Connor Van Vuuren’s Soul Mates, a series that follows a friendship through the centuries between two literal, so it would seem, kindred spirits.

Just seem the flat out, absurdist fun that Soul Mates has with itself in this trailer.

Though it came out in Australia two years ago, you’ll be able to see Soul Mates stateside starting Thursday, September 1st on Seeso.

Mike Birbiglia’s extended interview on this week’s Daily Show not only shows some fascinating aspects surrounding his new movie, Don’t Think Twice, including making up a joke about Trump running for president before Trump announced he was running (The Simpsons did awhile ago, but the fact that Trump ran after anyone on TV and in movies joked about it is still pretty crazy) and the comparison of violent PG-13 movies versus the inexplicable R-rating that his movie got, but shows why you should follow anything Birbiglia is doing.
