@midnight Returns on Monday Jan. 6th with Kumail Nanjiani, Paul Scheer, and Andrea Savage

Those hashtags on the @midnight Twitter account have been keeping us all busy during the holiday break, but “@midnight with Chris Hardwick” is finally back next week at Comedy Central Mon. Jan. 6th at, you guessed it, MIDNIGHT with a great panel in Kumail Nanjiani, Paul Scheer, and Andrea Savage.

Since you might be in LA, you can also go to tapings for free with these tickets on most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Hot Tub to Celebrate Its One Year Anniversary in LA

One of the best live comedy shows in NYC (actually, the entire country) got up and transplanted itself to Los Angeles when Hot Tub with Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal landed at The Virgil every Monday, presented by our good friends and comedy behind the scenes extraordinaires Cleftclips, a year ago and it’s been one of the best things to happen to this city (as noted in our 100 Best Things in Comedy We Were Witness To In No Particular Order of 2013).

So, they’re marking their 1 year anniversary of being here in LA, which you shouldn’t miss on that fact alone. On top of that, the line-up is pretty fantastic with Patton Oswalt, Sean Patton, Kumail Nanjiani, Andrés du Bouchet, Andy Peters, and music by Nick Diamonds.

Stop asking questions already, get ready to see something amazing, and get your tickets.

The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, and More Genre Amalgamates with Comedy in Them Nominated at PGAs

We guess the debate will continue on whether The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Nebraska, and American Hustle have enough comedic moments to be considered a comedy or even a comedy hybrid or whether to dismiss the whole notion of genre altogether in awarding movies and just recognizing the truly best pictures.

The four aforementioned movies just got nominated for the Producer’s Guild Awards and seem to be the closest that comedy will get serious recognition. With that being said, Bradley Cooper and Louis C.K. in American Hustle are pretty f’n hilarious.

Jerry Seinfeld Goes on Boat with Louis C.K. For Season 3 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is now back for its 3rd season and Jerry Seinfeld decided to kick it off with doing something never before done on the show by going on Louis C.K.’s boat and hang with Louis C.K.

Not to worry, there’s a gondola-esque car in it too. Watch the two comedy titans hang out at the link.

Do As LA Weekly Suggests in Their 10 L.A. Comedy Acts to Watch in 2014

The LA Weekly LA Comedy Acts to Watch for 2014 just came out a few minutes ago and we’re more than to happy to see that Women Comedy, Cristela Alonzo, Betsy Sodaro, Ian Karmel, Andrés du Bouchet, and more made this list.

Really, this whole list is pretty spot on and you should make note everyone on it if you haven’t already.

Riot LA To Have The Rodney Dangerfield Stand Up Stand Out Award

The Riot LA Comedy Festival gets bigger and better with every passing day, especially since it’s happening next weekend. They have just announced that they’re going to have an honorary award showcase of comedians vying for The Rodney Dangerfield Stand Up Stand Out Award.

Just in case you didn’t know, Dangerfield was known for bringing up young comedians, one of them being Sam Kinison, in TV showcase specials. In the same spirit, this award searches for “originality, creativity, spirit and execution.

This year, in the showcase, will be Kate Berlant, Chris Garcia, Eliza Skinner, Tony Baker, Ian Karmel, Josh Fadem, and Christian Duguay, along with Fred Willard, Paul Rodriguez, Joan Dangerfield, and Dom Irrera judging which is a line-up you shouldn’t miss (get festival passes here).

Alamo Drafthouse to Have Unlimited Anchorman 2 Pass Starting New Year’s Day

Paramount and Alamo Drafthouse have stuck a deal to allow for a different type of Anchorman 2 superpass that will allow one to see the film as many times as they wish during Anchorman 2’s run at an Alamo Drafthouse theater.

We can only hope this catches on and they do the same for something like Wolf of Wall Street.

As far as we’re concerned, it’s definitely time for a comedy album from the fantastic Cameron Esposito. Thank goodness the universe/ether/whatever has listened to our wish and AST Records is recording her debut comedy album at The Laughing Skull in Atlanta, GA next week.

So, if you’re in or around or can get to Atlanta next weekend, go to the album recording.

Jimmy Fallon Doing Best of Late Night Special Before Going to The Tonight Show

On Jan. 5th at 9PM, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will air a special 2 hour “best of” episode chronicling all they’ve done over the last 5 years before Jimmy Fallon takes on his new gig as host of The Tonight Show after The Olympics.

We’d hope this will include all the bits with fake arms or we might think about calling shenanigans.

ABC, Fox, and More On Board For Comcast/Twitter “SEEiT” Initiative

The newly developed Twitter function that will take people to watching certain TV shows when tweeting about them has gotten more partners like ABC and Fox.

As Nielsen now, somehow, figures tweeting into ratings, SEEiT, if it catches on, might be a way to inflate ratings for a show. Then, maybe tweeting about a show could, in theory, save shows from getting cancelled like Enlightened?

Definitely, @midnight will benefit from this if Comedy Central/Viacom joins in.

LA’s MOCA Trying to Make ‘Art + Comedy’ Work in New Initiative

The Museum Of Contemporary Art here in Los Angeles is making an effort, specifically called Art + Comedy, to, as you can guess, bring the burgeoning worlds of comedy and high art together.

They are already well on their way in collaborations with Jack Black and Fred Armisen, but we’re curious to see what else MOCA is going to cook up and if they’d start something like a monthly comedy show at one of their spaces.

This makes us wonder how this will juxtapose against the other “art/comedy” exhibitions in LA, like the frequent pop culture tributes at Gallery 1988.

Put Your Hands Together Celebrates Its One Year Anniversary in Jan.

It’s a lot to ask a brand new live show in LA’s vast comedy scene to replace the slot of something like Comedy Bang! Bang! at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (previously known as the legendary Comedy Death Ray), which is currently a hit podcast on Earwolf and TV show on IFC. Yet, Put Your Hands Together has made a name for itself over a year with it’s host Cameron Esposito having a hell of a year and being voted into one of LA Weekly’s yearly best lists.

So, celebrate the first year of Put Your Hands Together at UCB on Tues. Jan 7th 8PM with a wonderful line-up including: Matt Braunger, Rhea Butcher, Katie Crown, Ron Funches, Karen Kilgariff, Kyle Kinane, Howard Kremer, Brendon Small, Paul F. Tompkins, your fantastic host Cameron Esposito, and more TBA!

Chris Gethard to Continue Sandwich Night Annually at MNN

Though it would seem that the fate of The Chris Gethard Show hangs in the balance of being in development at Comedy Central, Chris Gethard has vowed that he will return to his roots at The Manhattan Neighborhood Network to host a Sandwich Night, a holiday celebration Gethard created himself.

Knowing this, Sandwich Night could become the Festivus for Thanksgiving.

In addition to the New Year’s celebration that NBC will have with Carson Daly, NBC is also having a year end special where comedians Nikki Glaser, Julian McCullough, Seth Herzog, Sherrod Small, and hosted by TV personality Willie Geist presumably go over what was captivated our attention this year and was also a big waste.

What We Wasted Our Year On is on at 9PM EST/6PM PST on NBC tonight  and it might be worth checking out especially in this no man’s land of time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
