Every so often…

…there comes a time…

…when UCB here in LA wants to do a very ambitious immersive comedy show…

…and use all the rooms at their disposal (specifically at UCB Sunset)…

…to give you one hell of a comedy experience!

That time is… this Saturday, July 21st when Cheap Ass Comic-Con presented by the Unfinished Target at Sunset and Western.

UCB has done a few of these over the years and they’ve always been otherworldly and so damn funny. So, don’t miss this latest one where they do a send-up of Comic-Con (also, it might be a great way to get an approximation of the Comic-Con experience without spending a whole lot of money and going to San Diego).

They’ve got three times that you can go this Saturday, 7PM, 8:30PM, and 10PM all at $12 a pop.

We highly recommend to get your tickets to catch this (probably) one time only Cheap Ass Comic-Con.

When it comes to pushing the envelope in comedy (and doing so successfully), the name Conner O’Malley is one of the names that should immediately come to mind (just check his YouTube channel if you need proof).

UCB’s interview series about comedians and their craft, So, you do comedy? with Chris Witaske, has Conner as its next guest and you just might learn what’s cooking up in that head of his.

The show will be at UCB Sunset on Thurs., July 26th at 8:30PM. Tickets are $7 and you should go grab them here.

midnight show, ucb

Over the course of a decade, The Midnight Show has built themselves into a venerable institution in and throughout LA comedy. The dark, devil-may-care, fast paced style of their sketches made us into ardent fans after the first time we saw them.

That status is thanks to the brilliance of the cast/writers, directors, and producers who include/have included some of the funniest people around, period. You’ve probably seen and enjoyed the work of TMS’ Heather Anne Campbell, Hal Rudnick, James Adomian, Stephanie Allynne and Eric Moneypenny more than a few times around as well as the work of Peter Atencio (who used to direct all the videos, then became house director for Key & Peele).

With all of that being said, The Midnight Show will be having its final performance on Saturday, August 4th at, of course, midnight at UCB Franklin. It’s not to be missed. Currently, advanced tickets are sold out (it sold out in minutes), but there will be a waitlist and the possibility of more tickets being released closer to the night of. Get more details and check up on if there are indeed tickets to buy here.

This will feature reading scenes, music, and an audience Q&A.

One of our favorite Sunday stand-up show/cookout/hangs was the Golden Hour co-hosted by MK Paulsen and Kyle Berseth featuring Simon Gibson.

However, they had to go on hiatus for awhile because they lost out on their venue, even though it was a DIY, makeshift space made from a parking lot/loading dock.

We’ll, we’re happy to announce that Golden Hour is returning this Sunday, July 15th with the same great stand-up, free hot dogs, and basking under the LA sunset/dusk, but doing so in Mid-City at START LA (2266 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA).

The first line-up is a doozy with Daniel Rugg Webb, Maggie Maye, Sheng Wang, Megan Gailey, and Moses Storm on top of it being MK’s birthday.

So, make this your plans for this Sunday. Doors open at 7PM. Get more details here.

This time, Daly has a new album with him on a saxophone (just take a moment to enjoy a Elvis-inspired Daly with a sax in the flyer above) and his band featuring Cyrus Ghahremani & Joe Wong. He’ll be marking the release with a live show that’s pretty stacked as you can see above at The Satellite.

The Dresden (1760 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA) in Los Feliz is a pretty much an LA landmark with its long standing music showcases (Marty and Elayne specifically) and beautiful dining room and, of course, being prominently featured in Swingers.

On Monday, July 16th, they’ll be adding a comedy show to their recent repertoire as The Dresden Comedy Hour with Matt Lieb and Drew Platt will be making its debut.

Their inaugural line-up is solid with Solomon Georgio, Debra DiGiovanni, and John Michael Bond and the show itself is FREE. Not that you need an excuse to go to The Dresden (or maybe you do if you’ve been “over it” for awhile), but you should dip into the Dresden to catch what should be a nice, tight stand-up show.
