Conan O’Brien Does the “Conan Version” of Doing Something in a Car with Celebrities

September 28, 2017
Uncategorized

If you take a popular TV segment format like having celebrities join a host in a car and sing karaoke or hang out, you can expect Conan O’Brien and Team Coco to do something much more subversive should they choose to take on a style of said segment.

Well, they did exactly that with one of the world’s most recognizable stars, Tom Cruise.

Carpool Karaoke and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee can eat their heart out while Conan pulls an honestly gutsy parody. Watch it here.

Gerald, the amazing absurdist, partially nude, uncanny, kind-of-adult epic, directed by none other than Dr. Brown, is returning for another run at the Lyric Hyperion next month with the amazing cast of Max Baumgarten, Chad Damiani, Isaac Kessler, Erin Lampart, Paul B Levenhagen, Natalie Palamides, Anna Seregina, and Mark Sherman.

We’ve seen it for ourselves and it really is all those things that we said above.

Please get your tickets as soon as you can here.

You know, Butterscotch doesn’t eat children like Pennywise from It, but, because he’s real to everyone and dances the most eerie dance ever, he might be almost as scary.

Conan Lets a Clown Protesting “It” Speak

The latest adaptation of Stephen King’s It is a box office hit, which has many clowns upset for allegedly promoting the idea that clowns are scary.

On last night’s Conan, O’Brien “let” one such clown (that’s some sort of unholy cross between Tim Curry’s Pennywise and John Wayne Gacy’s Pogo The Clown) “speak” to this injustice.

We’ve said it for awhile and we’ll keep saying it, Conan still has the best sketches in late night and this (written by Todd Levin) is just one more piece of proof.

For those wondering, that’s Andrés du Bouchet under all that objectively scary clown make-up.

There are plenty of ways that you could with this idea of Trump going to a school for manners as that is one of many places where he is lacking.

As Anthony Atamanuik and The President Show explore every facet of Donald Trump in order to properly satirize him (listen to Atamanuik wax poetic about how deeply he goes with his Trump on Abe Lincoln’s Top Hat for even more proof), they take this remote segment to the nth level and keep going.

If this doesn’t convince you that this is the best comedic rendition of Trump out there currently, we don’t know what will.

Please enjoy watching this several times over here.

James Adomian Does Sebastian Gorka’s Farewell (EXCLUSIVE)

Avid listeners of the no-f*cks-given political comedy podcast Chapo Trap House will know that the brilliant James Adomian often voices a more histrionic, yet fun version Sebastian Gorka, another unfortunate member in Trump’s White House.

Gorka, as of today, is the latest to fall from the Trump Administration and Adomian hastily assembled his Gorka wig and facial hair to give his own personal farewell on Instagram from the halls of power… for now.

Watch and enjoy it here.

Honest Trailers themselves are actually nominated for an Emmy and in celebration of that (as well as seizing an opportunity to show off why they are some of the best parodists on the Internet), they made satirical retro TV themes for Emmy nominated shows Stranger Things, This Is Us, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

They even got the one and only (and very game for comedy these days) Michael Bolton to join in on the fun in addition to bringing on the talents of Natasha Bedingfield, Brian McKnight, and Paula Cole to do said TV themes. For Bolton, he wanted to do a Bolton style song for Game of Thrones as a bonus to this “very special episode” of Honest Trailers.

Please enjoy it here.

Needless to say, they delivered.

Spoiler alert, the crossover is definitely more Rick and Morty than it is SpongeBob.

Watch and enjoy here before you sit and tune into tonight’s new Rick and Morty at 11PM tonight.

Fox Orders a Put Pilot of a Comedy That Makes Fun of TV Revivals and Reboots

Even though Fox has recently had shows about the last people on this planet and time travel and mixing a live action sitcom with animated fantasy characters, this might be one of the highest concept projects that they’ve taken on.

Of course, as far as shows that skewer Hollywood for they penchant for trying to cash in on something that worked once, there was The Comeback starring Lisa Kudrow and then the comeback of The Comeback. Also, BoJack Horseman does a spectacular job of satirizing the entertainment industry in this regard.

This project feels a little different from the others as it’s taking on the whole trend of how many networks and production companies can’t seem to rebooting/remaking shows as its focus. The creative team here consists of folks that have experience with high concept sitcoms including Nahnatchka Khan, Sally Bradford McKenna, Chris McKenna, and a very in-demand Michael Showalter. Maybe they’ll pull it off? We’re definitely curious to see what’s to come from such an endeavor.

So far, we’re thinking this might be a sort of a BoJack Horseman if it was live action and didn’t have anthropomorphized animals and was on Fox as opposed to Netflix.

Jay-Z Has an All Black Version of “Friends” Starring Jerrod Carmichael and Issa Rae in His Music Video for “Moonlight”

Well, there’s a lot to unpack here.

Jay-Z has plenty of layers to his brand new album 4:44 and the same goes for each song and accompanying music videos.

“Moonlight”, which features an sound byte from this year’s Oscars SNAFU when Moonlight and La La Land got mixed up for winners for Best Picture, has a music video that preempts the song with a big scene from a classic episode of Friends, but done with a cast of all famous black actors and comedians:

Jerrod Carmichael as Ross
Issa Rae as Rachel
Lil Rel Howery as Joey
Lakeith Stanfield as Chandler
Tessa Thompson as Monica
Tiffany Haddish as Phoebe

Before they go into a full remake of the episode, the song kicks in as the aspect ratio changes and a much more somber tone pervades the video. You might have to watch it a few times to even grasp how you feel about it and what you’ll take away from it in terms of black representation and visibility on both the big and small screens.

Also, there are outtakes that could stand alone on their own and also happen to include Hannibal Buress.

On top of all of that, Master of None co-creator Alan Yang got to direct the whole thing.

Take all of Jay-Z’s music video for Moonlight here.

“The Death of Stalin” Trailer Promises the Latest and Greatest from Armando Iannucci

Armando Iannucci, the singular mind behind In The Loop, The Thick of It, and Veep, has been hard at work with his latest offering, The Death of Stalin. Basically, Iannucci brings his special brand of rapid fire dark political comedy to the events and subsequent power vacuum following the sudden death of infamous Russian dictator Joseph Stalin.

Suffice it to say.that it looks glorious.

The trailer, just released today, promises something quite extraordinary with a fantastic cast that includes Jeffrey Tambor, Steve Buscemi, Michael Palin, Paddy Considine, Jason Isaacs, and more as power hungry Russian higher-ups bickering Iannucci style.

See for yourself in the trailer here.

The Death of Stalin is slated for a UK release on Oct. 20th. Keep a close for a U.S. release date.

Netflix Will Be Poking Fun at Themselves with Mockumentary “American Vandal”

Much of Netflix’s success can be attributed to series like true crime docu-series Making a Murderer and The Keepers.

That being the case, Netflix want to take parodies of their hit series into their own hands. Thus, Tony Yacenda (Pillow Talking), Dan Perrault (Honest Trailers, one of the Internet’s best parody series), and Dan Lagana (from the highly underrated Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous) made this new mockumentary series, American Vandal.

Think of it as a bit of a cross between Making a Murderer and Superbad.

See for yourself in the trailer.

American Vandal streams on Netflix starting on Friday, September 15th.

Colbert’s Cartoon Trump to Get Its Own Show on Showtime

As a sitting U.S. President, Trump might just have broken new ground by provoking two major cable TV networks to order series that portray a clearly negative version of him even though he’s the lead character. We’re pretty sure that has never happened to any other U.S. President.

Yet, The President Show on Comedy Central and this newly ordered ‘Cartoon Trump’ spin-off from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s Cartoon Trump segments on Showtime furthers Trump being in a class that’s all his own.

Both Colbert and Late Show’s Chris Licht will be helming the project.

We got to see this extremely fun show, Dungeon, awhile ago and it really has stand-up comedians taking the reins to a streamlined version of Dungeons & Dragons. More often than not, that means they play for what might be funnier rather than what’s prudent and wise on their quest.

John-Michael Bond hosts as a Dungeon Master and really blends stand-up and D&D almost seamlessly with this show. This latest edition this Sunday, July 30th will feature a great line-up of Jordan Temple, Kaseem Bentley, Jordan Doll, Barbara Gray and Christine Medrano.

Sounds pretty fun, right?

Esteemed members of The Pack Theater pondered what it would be like if the beloved cartoon franchise Yogi Bear got the grim live action treatment.

They pondered so much that they came up with an actual screenplay called Jellystone and staged a live reading of their Yogi Bear movie that got so dark it became silly again.

They’re doing another live reading this Friday, July 7th at 9PM at The Pack Theater and you really ought to catch it before, perhaps, it actually gets made into a movie (or a faux trailer for a movie).
