The First Batch of Netflix’s 15 Minute Specials “The Comedy Lineup” Will Drop on July 3rd

A tight 15 minutes each from Michelle Buteau, Phil Wang, Taylor Tomlinson, Ian Karmel, Jak Knight, Sam Jay, Sabrina Jalees, and Tim Dillon will be coming right before the 4th of July to Netflix. Called The Comedy Lineup, it’s all part of Netflix’s experiment of having 15 minute specials (as opposed the long running standard of half hour, hour, late night (5-7), or typical stand-up showcase series (7-10 minutes).

Take note that’s it’s only Part 1 since Netflix ordered these special sort of specials from 16 comedians total. The other 8 are Aisling Bea, JR De Guzman, Janelle James, Josh Johnson, Matteo Lane, Max Silvestri, Emma Willmann, and Kate Willett.

The line-up is beyond solid, but this whole 15 minute thing has us wondering if this will be the beginning of a stand-up hierarchy for Netflix.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Season 10 Coming Next Month with Chappelle, McKinnon, Minhaj Galifianakis, and More

It may be the most lavish way that the most successful comedians could hang out (and also be doing a show at the same time), but the 10th season of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is coming next month on Netflix for a very good reason.

Simply, Jerry shows the inner workings of comedy in a way doesn’t dissect it like an in-depth documentary might. By doing so, he captures most of his guests at their most natural, even more so than if they’re the sort of comedian that is pretty much themselves on stage.

Season 10 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has a line-up of Jerry Lewis, Kate McKinnon, Ellen DeGeneres, Hasan Minhaj, Dana Carvey, Neil Brennan, Tracy Morgan, Brian Regan, Alec Baldwin, Zach Galifinakis, John Mulaney, and Dave Chappelle in various fancy, odd cars that you’ve probably never seen or heard of.

Look for the new episodes July 6th on Netflix.

Scotland’s Daniel Sloss, one of the most featured stand-up comedians on Conan in the 2010s will be having two new hour specials coming out on Netflix.

One is called Dark and the other is called Jigsaw and, together, they should further Sloss quest to make his name known here in the States (and it should be for how funny he is).

Just see for yourself in this cheeky announcement for both specials.

Tig Notaro Reveals That She Sold Film “First Ladies” Starring Jennifer Aniston and Her Before Any of the Movie Was Written

Basically, First Ladies will be a movie that stars Jennifer Aniston as the first female POTUS with Tig Notaro as her FLOTUS.

That’s pretty much all we need to be on board for this movie that was sold to Netflix and has Will Ferrell attached. Apparently, that’s all that everyone involved needed to hop on board as well.

Here’s Tig explaining what might be one of the easiest and well received movie pitches of all time on Conan.

Just a friendly reminder that a few hours ago, the first episode of The Break with Michelle Wolf just dropped on Netflix. You might want to take a break from barbecuing and go watch it.

W. Kamau Bell’s First Netflix Special “Private School Negro” Coming Next Month

W. Kamau Bell has certainly been busy since his last recorded hour of stand-up (Semi-Prominent Negro, released in 2016) with his CNN series, United Shades of America, which just happened to have won an Emmy during its tenure thus far.

Next month, Bell will finally be unveiling his new hour in the form of a Netflix special called Private School Negro. It should come as no surprise that he’ll be dissecting race, politics, Trump (arguably separate from normal politics), but we’d submit (knowing full well that you might have fatigue of Trump humor) that Bell is one of the best and smoothest when it comes to writing and performing political comedy.

Look for Private School Negro to drop on Netflix on Tues. June 26th.

Tig Notaro’s “Happy To Be Happy Here” Has One of the Best Closers in Recent Memory

When Tig Notaro does stand-up, you can always count on Tig to playfully deconstruct various stories of her life at the moment in a low key, but thoroughly enjoyable fashion. In fact, she might be the best at doing so as exhibited in her latest hour that just dropped on Netflix, Happy To Be Here.

Tig is also pretty great at pranking the audience/crowd/viewer and keeping a prank going and going and going. From dragging a stool across the stage for a bit to falsely dismounting, she has a knack for innocently hooking the audience into a sense of “is-she-or-isn’t-kidding” and playing it out to maximum effect.

In closing this special, Tig does what will undoubtedly become one of her signature bits in this regard. In fact, as stated in the headline, it’s a legitimate closer in a stand-up special (unlike we’ve seen in quite some time) that might be the best in recent memory.

Go watch Tig Notaro: Happy To Be Here now on Netflix and see what we’re talking about.

Here’s Your First Look at “The Break with Michelle Wolf”

This Sunday, May 27th, Michelle Wolf will kick off her weekly late night series The Break with Michelle Wolf on Netflix complete with monologue, remote segments, bits, and an ultra fancy desk (in fact, it’s nicer than most late night talk talk show desks).

Of course, this is the second phase of Michelle Wolf dominating 2018 as she is just coming off of her spot on roast at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Also, we have a feeling that is the start of Netflix figuring out late night as they also have a weekly Hasan Minhaj show on deck too. We will all have to wait and see how true that notion is.

In the meantime, you can watch a teaser trailer for The Break with Michelle Wolf here.

Two comedy legends like Steve Martin and Martin Short sharing the stage like they never have before might be hard to imagine since both are beloved comedy superstars and have been so for decades.

Having both stars collide, as seen in this trailer, seems like a fun back-and-forth challenging each other as if they were hanging out at an intimate club, except they are in a massive theater.

Also, Jiminy Glick will be making a cameo as a great bonus for Martin and Short’s An Evening You Will Forget for The Rest of Your Life.

Look for the special to drop on Netflix in a week on Friday, May 25th.

Now entering to its 4th season on Netflix, we can’t help but notice how much of a well-oiled machine Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is at this point, which, unfortunately, doesn’t get to be the case for similar high concepts sitcoms on linear TV.

Being a single camera scripted show and staying pretty topical (#MeToo, AI) and making that all work is impressive. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has kept up that standard for three seasons and, according to this trailer, will likely live up to it again in this upcoming season.

Season 4 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt begins streaming on Netflix on May 30th.

Ali Wong’s Latest Hour Special “Hard Knock Wife” Just in Time for Mother’s Day

Two years ago, Ali Wong’s first hour special Baby Cobra, performed while pregnant, premiered on Netflix. It, as you probably are well aware of, catapulted her and her unapologetic brand of comedy into being famous.

Ali returns to the stage to pretty much offer up a sequel with Hard Knock Wife. At its core, Ali is the same firebrand comedian that millions of a folks fell in love with, but is now more successful than her husband and has been through a couple years of motherhood. If you want a great, NSFW take on mother and a wife in 2018, you’ll enjoy this hour.

Here’s a trailer to get a taste.

You can stream Hard Knock Wife now on Netflix. It’s a pretty great way to cap off Mother’s Day we think.

Netflix’s “AJ and the Queen” Will Be a Buddy Road Comedy Starring Ru Paul as a Drag Queen

In this series, Ru Paul and a kid sidekick will be galavanting from one city to let Ru Paul to perform on stage like only Ru Paul can as well as spreading the message of love and acceptance.

Sounds pretty great to us and something that might not have been made were it not for non-traditional TV platforms like Netflix. Looking forward to see what this will sound, look, and feel like whenever the trailer drops.

You’ve heard Hari Kondabolu’s name plenty on the news because of the debate his documentary The Problem with Apu has raised with legendary animated series The Simpsons.

Now is a pretty great time for Hari to show you comedic satire from his perspective and thankfully his Netflix hour special, Warn Your Relatives just started streaming today.

All of the jokes and stories in it are so tight and so carefully crafted that we’d bet that only the most partisan of people on any side would have a bone to pick with it. Hari always manages to amaze by finding the perfect punchline to intersect history, everyday minutia, race, and his own personal experience and Warn Your Relatives is no exception.

Warn Your Relatives is now streaming on Netflix and you should go give it watch when you get a chance.

Ali Wong Will Voice Bertie Alongside Tiffany Haddish in the Upcoming Animated Netflix Series “Tuca & Bertie”

Ali Wong as a songbird and Tiffany Haddish as a toucan living together in their thirties in a series created by Lisa Hanawalt, the person responsible for how BoJack Horseman looks?

Well, we were already fully on board and, somehow, we’re even more on board for Tuca & Bertie.

There’s no set premiere date or even estimate of one, but we’ll mark our calendars as soon as that’s announced.

With Oh, Hello, co-hosting the Spirit Awards, Big Mouth, and more under his belt, John Mulaney’s stock is already pretty high and expectations of him can easily rise to be equally as high. Still, Mulaney, in turn, rises to the occasion once more.

Every one of his hour specials have been solid intricately collected and connected observations by Mulaney and Kid Gorgeous, his latest hour special follows suit. John performs on a bigger stage with a nicer backdrop and seemingly has a bit more polish and spring to his step this time around, but he’s still dealing out his whipsmart observations in his life (including as a celebrity, a human being, and, of course, being raised Catholic) like he’s been doing so well for years.

Kid Gorgeous at Radio City is now streaming at Netflix.

If that’s not enough Mulaney for you, here’s John breaking down a possible theory behind comedy’s fascination with Florida on Seth Meyers.

Arrested Development is a series destined to just make TV history at every turn.

From improbably coming back at Fox to coming back from the dead over at Netflix to very likely being the first series to intentionally recut an entire season for release (the closest thing we can think of to this experiment by Mitch Hurwitz is the ongoing fan debate of what order in to watch the Star Wars franchise).

In any case, there’s more Arrested Development coming to Netflix soon and, from the sounds of it, it’s back to “normal” (however you define normal in the Arrested Development universe) and we’re really happy to hear that.

Also, now that we think about it, could Arrested Development give Deadpool a run for its money in the most meta-self-referential franchise on screen? We think so.

While the Internet debates their biased nuanced takes on Michelle Wolf’s White House Correspondents Dinner remarks, forgetting that it has always been an unapologetic roast, we applaud Wolf for diving right into her set and not letting up for her whole 20 minutes with both poise and fury, especially since Trump skipped again, but clearly watched it on TV and whined about it on Twitter.

Also, thanks for Wolf letting us know that you can drop the F-bomb, which she did twice, on C-SPAN. Let’s hope that becomes a time honored tradition at the WHCD.

It’s a pretty great “trailer” of sorts for her upcoming weekly Netflix show The Break with Michelle Wolf.

By the way, it just so happens that Netflix just released an official teaser trailer for said show set for Sundays starting on May 27th.

Michelle Wolf Hosts the WHCD This Saturday and Her Netflix Show “The Break with Michelle Wolf” Premieres May 27th

This weekend, Michelle Wolf will be roasting the White House and the White House Correspondents as host of the Annual White House Correspondents Dinner.

Then, just about a month later, her new weekly topical series at Netflix, The Break with Michelle Wolf, is set to premiere. Trump will not be in attendance for either, but we’re sure he’ll be watching it somehow and probably whine about both on Twitter.

In any case, mark down 4/28 and 5/27 on your calendars.

Moshe Kasher and Natasha Leggero might now be the comedy power couple to be.

Not only do you get to enjoy their sharpened comedic perspectives on love, marriage, and parenting in their own individual half-hour specials, but you can see the strength in their bond when they’re both on stage. The way they roast other couples when going into their relationships is not only very fun, but complimentary to each other in a way that you know they’re pretty much perfect together.

The Honeymoon Stand Up Special is, as mentioned above, now streaming on Netflix, so you should enjoy and watch it ASAP.

For Netflix’s Next Comedy Big Name Get, They’ve Lined-Up a SCTV Reunion Special to Be Directed by Martin Scorsese

The pull that Netflix has these days is undeniable.

The notion of Martin Scorsese doing a retrospective comedy special about a sketch comedy show wouldn’t have ever crossed our mind and yet, Netflix has not only gotten legendary auteur on board, but will have Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin, and Joe Flaherty reunited in conversation next month.

Second City Television, AKA SCTV, is one of Canada’s most renowned comedy exports and came into prominence right alongside SNL.

If you’re keeping a score, Netflix has a movie about National Lampoon and this special about SCTV. Maybe next will be a mini-series about Channel 101?
