TCB Debriefing 4/8-4/13/24: Conan O’Brien/Hot Ones, Matt Stone/Trey Parker, I Used to Be Funny, Monopoly/Margot Robbie, The Contestant, Netflix Is a Joke Fest, Packfest

April 13, 2024
News
conan o'brien, hot ones, i used to be funny, john mulaney, kendrick, margot robbie, matt stone, monopoly, netflix is a joke fest, packfest, Rachel Sennott, ralph barbosa, the contestant, trey parker

1. Conan O’Brien vs. Hot Ones. Point Conan (and then some). We’d almost put money that no other late night host would put on a better show on Hot Ones. Please enjoy this in all its hilarious, disgusting glory (complete with Jose Arroyo as some sort of MD) here.

2. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are partnering with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free‘s pgLang to make live action movie musical (Deadline), which, based off the successes of Book of Mormon and Kendrick being, well, Kendrick, we’re going to guess this project might be pretty good.

3. Red hot off a blazed trail of Bottoms from last year, the astounding Rachel Sennott is coming to screens this year with a role much more close to home as she will be playing a stand-up really going through a heavy bout of grieving with the (very probably) aptly named i used to be funny from the amazing hands, vision, and mind of one, Ally Pankiw (director of probably one of your new favorite Black Mirror eps.). Take a gander at i used to be funny with the trailer here, then look for an indie rollout beginning in June.

4. Since Margot Robbie, with the help of Greta Gerwig, conquered with Barbie, she is now being tapped to adapt the cruel board game classic Monopoly into a feature length film (BBC News). No matter the take that Robbie chooses to go with in making a Monopoly movie, get ready for an entire boatload of think pieces about late stage capitalism.

5. Right before The Truman Show, Japanese television had a much more alarming, very real version of it that starred an up and coming comedian. See what they hath wrought in the upcoming Hulu documentary, The Contestant. See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for it on Hulu starting May 2nd.

6. Netflix Is a Joke Fest is only a few weeks away and you can feel the streaming giant going full press with their entire comedy roster now stretching from Mulaney doing a docu-series of Los Angeles called Everybody’s in LA (since Mulaney’s a voice for LA now?) and Netflix’s rising star from around the heart of TX, Ralph Barbosa, hosting Netflix’s Introducing series (the NIAJF’s version of New Faces).

7. Speaking of festivals, the small, but mighty Pack Theater is throwing their own festival this Summer, PackFest, and they’re taking submissions for comedy of all kinds RIGHT NOW.

8. We’ll leave you with this: Sorry for the delay on this latest debriefing, our laptop died and we had to buy a new one. If you’d like, you can help us recoup the cost via Venmo @jakekroeger or at patreon.com/thecomedybureau.

TCB Debriefing 12/20 & 12/21 & 12/22/23: Gary Gulman, James Adomian/Mike Lindell, Holdovers, People’s Joker, Surrounded, Jo Koy/Golden Globes, Run the Burbs

December 23, 2023
News
conan o'brien, gary gulman, golden globes, james adomian, jimmy kimmel live, jo koy, mike lindell, people's joker, run the burbs, surrounded, the holdovers

1. Gary Gulman just put every outlet and publication that dare put out a best-of-year-end list to shame with his latest, finely tuned masterwork, Born of Third Base. This latest hour was so meticulously put together, but, as is with the very best of stand-up comedy, gracefully presented with seemingly only the slightest twinge of effort. Gulman very well might be the very best observational comedian out there that manages a perfectly balanced plate of social commentary, personal vulnerability, and verbal acrobatics. This hour, Born on Third Base, not only strongly echoes this notion, but earns Gulman very clever dig at the observational comedy giant, Jerry Seinfeld (and doing it without ever uttering “What’s the deal with…?”). Even beyond that, Gulman delves deeply into being meta, more so than he ever has and hysterically shows the seams of his jokes as further proof that Gulman has mastery over pretty much any skill in stand-up comedy.

Gary Gulman: Born on Third Base is now streaming on Max. Please enjoy.

2. James Adomian dazzles again on Kimmel as Mike Lindell for a Christmas “special” that feels all too real and hilariously absurd at the same time. Please enjoy here.

3. The hit period dramedy that reunited Alexander Payne with his muse Paul Giamatti, The Holdovers, is coming to Peacock right before NYE on Dec. 29th. If you were “holding over” this is just coming in the nick of time to keep you sane.

4. The People’s Joker got pulled from TIFF due to copyright infringement issues (Variety). This will be an important precedent set for the legal standard of “parody” going forward (and we don’t have a good feeling about it).

5. Get your first non-VR look at the VR-forward stand-up series based on the hit in-the-round, crowd work show created by Mike Falzone, Surrounded.

6. Jo Koy will be hosting the very next Golden Globes. Any takers on how many times CBS/Paramount+ and the HFPA will mention this is the first time an Asian person alone (Andy Samberg co-hosting with Sandra Oh really negates the diversity, doesn’t it?) has hosted The Golden Globes?

7. We’ll leave you with this: Despite NBC executives largely thinking otherwise, Conan O’Brien had found an audience when he first embarked on being a late night host with Late Night with Conan O’Brien. It was college students (and this was well over a decade before you could watch Conan remotes on YouTube). That’s all to say that an audience for your comedy might be just around the bend.

TCB Debriefing: 11/29/23: Conan & Jordan, Kate McKinnon, Bergamot Comedy Festival, Charlie Day

1. Um, there’s a whole podcast that’s just Conan O’Brien and infamous associate producer/living manifestation of the phrase “Well, actually”, Jordan Schlansky called The Conan and Jordan Show. Listen and subscribe since it is everything that you want this enduring love/hate relationship to be.

2. Kate McKinnon returns to SNL. Hopefully, it will be on the space ship that she left on.

4. Charlie Day is starring in a dark comedy called “Kill Me” (deadline). The premise sure sounds like an ep. of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Day is trying to figure out whether he tried to kill himself or someone is out to get him.

5. We’ll leave you with this: Tip of the cap to Sabrina Wu and Robby Hoffman crushing their Netflix sets. Go watch them ASAP.

TCB Debriefing 11/10/23: SAG-AFTRA Contract, Clueless Gamer, The Egyptian, Holiday Orphan Avails

November 11, 2023
News
clueless game, clueless gamer, conan o'brien, sag-aftra, the vista

1. SAG-AFTRA, with an 86% ratifying vote, has approved their new contract with the AMPTP and ended the historic double strike between the WGA, themselves, and the AMPTP. How many actors/writers who returned/tried out stand-up will never do stand-up again (until the next strike)?

2. One of Conan O’Brien‘s best remote segments was Clueless Gamer and we’re thankful during this Thanksgiving season that the series endures beyond Conan’s tenure in late night (and that Conan is still not all that great at video games). Please enjoy O’Brien’s attempt at finding lov—ahem, playing Starfield here.

3. The Vista isn’t the only old movie palace returning to LA’s movie house landscape. Netflix has finished their restoration of their new baby (and their direct solution to having their movies qualify for The Oscars), The Egyptian Theater in the heart of Hollywood. (LA Magazine). It’s exciting to know both landmark theaters are coming back, but almost every Angeleno is wondering, beyond those two, when the hell is ArcLight coming back?

4. When it comes to the holiday season, so many folks skip town for a week or two that one ponders who might even be in town to do a show in those twilight weeks after Christmas leading into the second week of the new year. That said, we do know that both comics and audiences are in town at those times and, perhaps, what would be best is if we found exactly who was in town that would be game for a show. Hence, we’re trying to make a list, essentially a list of avails, for those that are holiday comedy orphans that maybe want to perform at the end of 2023 and right at the beginning of 2024 that anyone putting on a show could use. We’ve got a spreadsheet here if you’re in town then and want to get up at a time when almost any regularly recurring show is off for the time being.

5. We’ll leave you with this: take a deep breath and pause to get ready for as much TV and movie promo as you can handle.

TCB Debriefing 9/15/23: Joe Pera Special, Derrick Brown Album, Spaghetti Fest, Thank You For Coming, Conan on Trump, Hasan Minhaj

September 15, 2023
News
bollywood, comedy festival, conan o'brien, derrick brown, hasan minhaj, joe pera, spaghetti festival, thank you for coming, the elysian

1. The most gentle soul in comedy, Joe Pera, is releasing his very first special, self-produced and set to be released on YouTube on Fri Oct. 6th. True to his spirit, it’ll be called Slow & Steady and very likely be the sort of soothing and surprising glee with the way the world is these days. Please enjoy Joe’s announcement here.

2. The multi-talented, multi-faceted, very funny and very evocative Derrick Brown has just come out with his first album, A Close Shave with Heaven, fresh off the presses from Pretty Good Friends. We’ll fill you in on Brown’s synchronous blend of comedy & poetry soon, but enjoy the record (and amazing cover) as it has dropped today (wherever you get your comedy albums).

3. The Elysian‘s Spaghetti Festival (AKA Forget About Spaghetti Fest) is set to return with completely original new, never before seen comedy productions come Nov. 1st-11th. Tickets, details, and line-up to come soon!

4. One of the gala films at TIFF is a Bollywood sex comedy that takes aim at the patriarchy cheekily called Thank You For Coming (Variety). A female empowerment comedy hailing from Bollywood is a pretty big deal and we hope Thank You For Coming finds its way to American theaters soon.

5. Preach, Conan O’Brien, preach.

6. Hasan Minhaj admitting to embellishing his stories in service of comedy is actually very much at the heart of the art form of comedy itself; artistic expressions that are, above all, in service of the joke.

TCB Debriefing 8/22/23: Michelle Wolf, NY Comedy Fest/Conan, Frasier, Wrecking Crew, America’s Funniest Home Videos

August 22, 2023
News
america's funniest home videos, conan o'brien, dave bautista, frasier, jason momoa, michelle wolf, ny comedy festival

1. Michelle Wolf‘s third special, It’s Great To Be Here, will be released in 3 parts (maybe it’s 1 part for every year that comics could do some sort of live comedy since 2020?) on Netflix, which will be only the second time, as far as we know, that has ever happened for a comedy special (the other time being with James Acaster). The release is set for Sept. 12th and you can take your first look at the special here.

2. The New York Comedy Festival has just announced a new marquee addition to their usually stacked line-up; two live episodes of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. Go get tickets here right now.

3. Following the nostalgia trap of Good Burger, Paramount+ is hitting Gen-Xers with that long-promised Frasier revival.

4. Riding a wave of positive reviews of Angel Miguel Soto’s Blue Beetle and top billing of Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, The Wrecking Crew might be an action buddy comedy to watch out for (Deadline). Wouldn’t it be great to see something outdo The Nice Guys?

5. Long before YouTube, much of the schadenfreude content that people are obsessed with came from the long-running home video series America’s Funniest Home Videos (Variety). A new owner of the production company responsible for AFHV is set on putting at least a thousand hours of the show on YouTube on Facebook. We’ll be curious to see if Ridiculousness uses any of the same videos.

6. If you choose to play the self-deprecation card as a comedian, make sure you’re doing so in a way where the audience isn’t concerned about your own self-worth in silence.

TCB Debriefing 8/3/23: Dicks: The Musical, Rap Sh!t S2, Carmen Christopher, Leslie David Baker Office Spin-Off, Conan Remembers Paul Reubens

August 3, 2023
News
a24, aaron jackson, carmen christopher, conan o'brien, dicks the musical, hbo max, josh sharp, leslie david baker, paul reubens, rap sht, the office

1. In what will be one of A24’s boldest releases yet (except for Everything Everywhere All At Once), and that’s still a high bar to clear, they are doing their first musical and they’re making damn sure it’s rated R. Thanks to the wickedly sharp humor of Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp and the directing talents of Borat’s very own Larry Charles (and managing to have Megan Thee Stallion and Nathan Lee in the same movie), 2023 might be the year with Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Dicks: The Musical. Get your first taste here, then look for its release on Sept. 29th.

2. Due to the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike still not being over, Issa Rae’s latest dramedy, Rap Sh!t, will now be premiering Nov. 9th instead of next week (Deadline). In its place, get ready for way more reality TV on HBO Max that you didn’t ask for.

3. Carmen Christopher who brilliantly blends being dry, absurd, and hysterically aggressive is setting to go on big ol’ North American tour from the end of this month all the way to the end of the year. Do not miss out on his Waverunner tour whether or not it’s close to where you live or not (go get tickets for a city near you here).

4. At one point in time, Leslie David Baker, often known and celebrated as Stanley Hudson from the American version of The Office attempted to crowdfund a spin-off that would center around Stanley. After years of delays (and the double strike), Baker has opted to refund all his backers on Kickstarter (Deadline). When Tinseltown is all back up and running, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this project get revived again, perhaps even without needing to be crowdfunded.

5. Conan O’Brien remembers and pays tribute to Paul Reubens on the latest episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. He also reminds us all that Reubens was amazing even he was not being Pee Wee Herman.

6. One day, a Trump joke will feel as dated as Nixon joke. We only hope that, somehow, America/the world got better enough where either won’t be relevant anymore.

Thank Goodness, Conan O’Brien Is Coming Back to TV Soon with “Conan O’Brien Must Go”

May 17, 2023
News
conan o'brien, hbo max, max, travel show

Conan O’Brien signed off from late night more than a few years ago at this point and, truly, it hasn’t really been the same ever since. The once elder statesman of late night also happened to be on the forefront of redefining what could be done with the late night format with his remotes, traveling abroad, and even playing videos games while not having a clue of what the hell was going on.

Since his hosting duties ended, Conan has amassed a podcast empire under the Team Coco banner, which has been amazing, but it’s not quite the same as having Conan O’Brien out in the field bringing joy to millions with his signature antics.

Thankfully, a rumored travel show at HBO is now coming to fruition as shown by the teaser for the Max Original, Conan O’Brien Must Go, where Conan travels to places all over the globe where his fans reside. That’ll include Noway, Thailand, and, from the looks of the teaser, somewhere in the UK. It’s a more personal, very likely less censored version of Conan Without Borders and we couldn’t be more excited for its arrival.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Conan is more than a natural at this and is probably more deserving of a travel show than the litany of other famous people who have done it over the last few years.

Get your first look at Conan O’Brien Must Go here, then look for it on HBO Max/Max soon (perhaps, pending the strike ending?)

Pick of the Day: Book Soup Presents Sona Movsesian: The World’s Worst Assistant (in LA) 7/20

July 6, 2022
News
book soup, conan o'brien, live reading, sona movsesian, world's worst assistant

If we can imagine a Conan O’Brien’s Cinematic Universe, one of the biggest and best and most favored characters from said universe would be none other than his playfully reluctant assistant, Sona Movsesian. Shown in many a remote segment doing anything but her job, she is one of the closest people to Conan and is an indelible part of whatever he’s doing (Conan, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, etc.).

Thus, Sona wrote a book about her life and time being Conan O’Brien’s right hand, but also binging all of Friends the series while at work at the same time. Entitled The World’s Worst Assistant, Sona is currently on a book tour that will show how indispensable she is as foil to O’Brien’s signature tomfoolery.

Sona will be specifically doing a live event, thanks to Book Soup, at The Regent in DTLA on Wed. Jul. 20th at 6PM PT. Tickets are $40 from which you’ll receive a copy of The World’s Worst Assistant. Do not miss out and go get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend LIVE (in LA) 11/3

August 16, 2021
News
conan o'brien, conan o'brien needs a friend

Sure, Conan O’Brien has stepped down from his late night talk show that he was hosting for decades, but that doesn’t mean that Conan O’Brien is anywhere near done with comedy. The Team Coco empire that he’s built over the last several years continues to grow these days and is still as alive and kicking it has ever been.

In fact, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, the lead podcast for Team Coco, is set to do its very first live show/taping later this year. Wed. Nov. 3rd will be when Conan, Matt Gourley, and Sona Movsesian (and very special TBA guests) take over the Wiltern and make personal history for Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend after building to being one of the best comedy podcasts around that let us peer in on a Conan O’Brien free from the constraints of a late night network talk show (in addition to regularly getting competitive with Matt and Sona).

Tickets for this very first Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend LIVE will go on sale on Fri. Aug. 20th 10AM PT here, but available for Team Coco Newsletter subscribers on Wed. Aug. 18th at 10AM PT.

May the Joyous Chaos of Conan O’Brien Live On

June 24, 2021
News
conan, conan o'brien

Right about now, there are only a few hours before the airing of the final episode of Conan on TBS (that’s the script cover of the final ep. above) and, ostensibly, the final episode of Conan O’Brien’s nearly 30 year run as a late night talk show host. There are plenty of tributes, oral histories, retrospectives, etc. that have been written and posted over the last month.

We don’t personally know Conan O’Brien and have only been to one taping (although it was a doozy-The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien with Norm MacDonald and Jim Gaffigan as guests), but the spirit that Conan exudes in the art form of comedy has been one that has been crucial to our perspective in and our love for comedy.

From the very first episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien to this week, Conan has been, arguably, more dedicated to the actual comedy of the late night format than anyone else in late night. It has been pointed out by several folks that O’Brien tows a very apolitical line that distinguishes him from Colbert and Seth Meyers, but Conan’s unwavering irreverence, for us, has made him stand out even further from the rest of the pack. Just last night, Dana Carvey ran new bits in the penultimate episode of Conan and we’re pretty sure that only O’Brien is the only one that would revel in it.

In fact, Conan has been so willing to let chaos ride at any part of the show throughout Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and Conan. Often, he would encourage it whether it was ripping apart a monologue joke that bombed, stretching out a sketch or bit, or even going meta by doing replay of a moment during the show or keep the camera on a sketch player that was supposed to have died to see how long they would play dead. It’s that sort of joyous chaos that has inspired a generation of comedy, even though Conan would probably say that he’s carrying the torch from David Letterman.

Even at the twilight of his talk show run, Conan is still one of the most innovative late night talk shows hosts who, at the moment, went out of his way to do his show out of the studio, out of the country, and built a podcast empire that no other late night talk show can boast. Again, his gut instinct to go for the funny has seen him through so many transformations, but kept Conan’s shows and content in his splendidly ridiculous wheelhouse.

To that point, we can’t really think of another person in all of comedy where they could be just be put in a normal, everyday situation and go from 0 to 60 with bits like Conan O’Brien. There are so many of his famous remote segments where he would be at a deli or a florist or taking language lessons that had no sort of stakes or conflict or tension and Conan would always find a way to the funny. Truly, that’s artful mastery in comedy if you’re ever to consider what “excellence” or “outstanding achievement” (or whatever other monikers they give comedy awards for) really means.

We don’t know what lies ahead for both Conan O’Brien and late night (though we do hope that there is a whole lot more of Desus & Mero and Ziwe), but we very much hope that the madcap exuberance of him and his comedy live on through several generations of shows, comedians, bits, and the clones of Jordan Schlansky (he is an android after all, right?

Conan Has a Nemesis In His Cardboard Audience at Largo

September 17, 2020
News
conan, conan o'brien, team coco

Late night is still experimenting with how to account for the fact that they can’t have a live audience like they used to. Most are still going without any sort of crowd even though they’re returning to their stage. Bill Maher is having limited, distanced audience.

Always one for a bit when there’s even the slightest chance for one, Conan O’Brien has opted to pack Largo, where he has been taping for weeks now, with cardboard cut outs of ardent Team Coco fans. Of course, Conan made sure, with complete control over how this audience could look, made sure to have one cut out of a very clearly dissatisfied person in the crowd.

Even during a pandemic, Conan’s brand of sly daftness can’t be held down. Please enjoy here and brighten your day a bit.

Conan Will Start Taping Episodes at Largo at the Coronet Theatre (Though with No Audience and Remote Guests)

July 2, 2020
News
conan, conan o'brien, largo at the coronet theatre, tbs

It has been months since late night hosts have taped an episode of their show from an actual stage. Kimmel, Colbert, and Meyers have done their best to gussy up their homes and Samantha Bee has just been doing her show from the woods. John Oliver is utilizing a giant blank white wall in his home and Hasan Minhaj has been going entirely with a virtual background, which isn’t too far from an actual episode of Patriot Act.

However, Conan O’Brien is going to break new ground yet again (he was pretty on the ball about doing bits while sheltered at home during the start of quarantine) as he will begin taping episodes of Conan for TBS from the long standing, revered comedy and music venue, Largo at the Coronet Theatre. They’ll be maintaining all safety protocol along government and industry regulations along with not having a live audience and bringing in guests for interviews remotely over Zoom. Limited crew and staff will be present.

This is a very noteworthy move as Conan will not only be back on stage once again to do Conan, but this will undoubtedly keep Largo’s doors open since they’ve had to go dark this entire time during lockdown with no idea (especially with the re-closing of dine-in restaurants in LA county) of when they would get to reopen and do so safely.

Also, in addition to Conan taping at Largo, the monthly Team Coco show, Moses Storm & Friends will do a Twitch live-stream at The Coronet as well starting July 9th. Again, there will be no audience present, but you will get to see live comedy from one of the most rustic looking auditorium in all of Los Angeles.

Our Favorite Harvard Alumnus Conan O’Brien Gives Commencement Speech for Harvard Class of 2020

News
class of 2020, conan o'brien, harvard

Of the many distinguished folks that have graduated from Harvard University, Conan O’Brien stands tall, literally and figuratively, as one of Harvard’s best alumni. The late night legend was President of the Harvard Lampoon while he attended, a very obvious foreshadowing of where he was headed in the future.

So, with all of this in mind with what is undoubtedly the strangest year to graduate from anything, Harvard tapped O’Brien to put together a commencement speech, which was equal parts ridiculous, heartfelt, and inspiring. It’s very clear that Conan got to pretty much do whatever he wanted with his allotted time and it was clearly all for the best.

Conan To Return March 30th (with a Quarantine Friendly Version)

News
conan o'brien, quarantine, tbs, team coco

You probably have already seen that Conan O’Brien has been providing us with the sort of bits and tomfoolery that made him famous from the comfort and CDC recommended location of his own home. Leave it to the likes of Conan O’Brien to keep the silliness alive during these anxious times of this COVID-19 pandemic.

Other late night hosts have been also “broadcasting” from home, but the ever clever O’Brien has devised a way to do his show by shooting on an iPhone and utilizing video chat to interview guests.

Thus, Conan, will continue to air in this stripped down version (that’s oddly both lo-fi and high-tech) on TBS starting Mon. Mar. 30th at his normal air time of 11PM ET/PT. Technically, that makes Conan entirely a remote segment, which is where O’Brien has truly thrived in the last few years.

We can’t wait to see Conan do what he does best, make TV history, and inadvertently be a great ad for the iPhone’s video capabilities.

As the world is on the precipice of Apple TV+, HBO is taking a big swing for their own streaming service, HBO Max, with regards to their comedy programming.

Just today, they made this flurry of announcements.

Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco will be producing five stand-up special, two of which will be with multiple comedians and three of which will be full hours (Deadline). A new batch of Looney Tunes (Deadline), a DC Universe series from Elizabeth Banks, a female rap group comedy from Issa Rae, and a coming-of-age-in-college sitcom from Mindy Kaling (Deadline) are all on the way.

If you’ve been following the trail of HBO Max, you know that this is only the tip of the iceberg for them. So, are you ready to cue Futurama’s most famous meme yet?

All in one fell swoop from Thurs. Oct. 3rd-Sat. Oct. 5th, Team Coco will be putting their live comedy stamp from ATL to LA and Minneapolis all the way down to Austin.

They’ll be having the fantastic comedic stylings Ron Funches, Kyle Kinane, Christina P., Roy Wood Jr., Laurie Kilmartin, and many more performing at several comedy clubs across the country all under the Team Coco House umbrella.

As Conan O’Brien himself has remarked, “This is exactly like ‘Oceans’ 11,’ only instead of robbing multiple casinos we are making people laugh in multiple comedy clubs. So, it’s really nothing like ‘Oceans’ 11’”

So, the latest installment of Conan Without Borders will be in Greenland as a satirical response to Trump’s idiotic interest in buying Greenland (that’s definitely a distraction for all the other BS he’s pulling).

Conan O’Brien often jokes that he is the “elder statesman of late night”, but, truly, he is one great American and a hell of a goodwill ambassador. In fact, such a reputation makes him a better candidate for POTUS than some of the lesser known candidates currently running, though we’re sure that he’d prefer making fun of someone in the Oval Office rather than sitting at the desk within it.

In any case, Conan’s got another ingenious travel special coming up as you can see in his announcement here.

Conan O’Brien’s Assistant Sona Movsesian Shines as Guest Filling In for Kumail Nanjiani

In an unexpected and likely historic episode of Conan (and that includes all the different iterations of Conan O’Brien’s tenure in late night), Kumail Nanjiani, the planned guest, was stuck shooting Silicon Valley due to some scheduling error and had to cancel last minute.

Since Conan only has one guest now, this presented a conundrum of what exactly to do. Thankfully, Conan had his assistant Sona Movsesian, a perfect balance for Conan’s antics and tomfoolery, sit down with him as the main guest. The interview ended up being the sort of cheeky and snappy back-and-forth that you’d hope get out of a late night interview, no matter who is sitting across from the host. See for yourself here.

So, we’ll be seeing more of Sona on camera, right? You can enjoy a lot more of this dynamic on the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend as Sona joins Conan on every episode.
