1. Well, everything is coming up Hacks (and, by extension, Hannah Einbinder). Coming hot off the heels of a blisteringly hot 3rd season, Hacks, has been renewed for a fourth season (Zaslav allowed a good creative decision to happen?). On top of that, Hannah Einbinder’s very first comedy special, Everything Must Go, just released its first special and set the premiere date of Jun. 13th on Max. Taped live at LA’s El Rey Theatre, it truly was something marvelous, especially as a goddamn debut special (the ingenuity, poise, and sharpness would make one believe this is far past her first hour special). Take a gander with the trailer for Hannah Einbinder: Everything Must Go here.

2. Just For Laughs indeed has filed for bankruptcy protections in Canada as they were operating with millions of dollar of debt to their name. They have begun the sale of select assets to ensure they stay afloat, which still sounds uncertain (THR).

3. Maybe you didn’t get to see Everything Everywhere All at Once in theaters (or at all for some ungodly reason), but thankfully, you’ll have a chance to see the Oscar Best Picture Winner in IMAX come August (Indiewire).

4. While Los Espookys is long gone, Julio Torres is finally on the track he should be on with nothing but accolades for Problemista and more magically real, beautifully funny absurdity with his HBO series, Fantasmas. Take a gander at what he has up his ethereal sleeves with the trailer here, then look out for it’s premiere on HBO/Max come next week on Jun. 7th.

5. Ali Clayton has arrived. She has done so in quite the fashion too with her debut album, Country Queer, that dives deep into discovering herself and her queer identity being from the South. Clayton’s drawl, warmth contrasted with her candor and vividly colorful writing is one of the best ways to kick off Pride this June. Please enjoy and listen to Country Queer now, fresh off the presses from Blonde Medicine here.

6. It’s a rare feat to tell a story over the course of an hour and it be so thoroughly engaging that it makes for a captivating special, especially when it’s a hilarious take on your journey through the criminal justice system here in the U.S. of A. Ali Siddiq has not only achieved said feat, but done a hat trick with part 3 of Domino Effect, which might be the first legit comedy special trilogy that is narratively tied altogether. Siddiq’s poise and uncanny ability to find the comedy gold in his time going to prison are so solid that you kind of don’t notice the special is almost 90 minutes long. Please enjoy Domino Effect Part 3: First Day of School, now on YouTube, here.

7. Clare O’Kane is yet another shining example of someone who did write at SNL and has yet to show off their true potential in comedy (Tim Robinson anyone?). Fresh off Eugene Mirman‘s Pretty Good Friends Records, Clare’s sophomore album, Everything I know how to do, maintains a delightfully bubbly spirit while wading into the deep end of many personal anecdotes about polyamory, pansexuality, rejected SNL sketch pitches, sharp feet, and more often with Clare’s ironically silly flourishes. You can and should listen to Everything I know how to do here.

8. Paul Scheer and June Diane Raphael are taking the next step in their ascent as a comedy power couple by co-hosting an awards show, The Humanitas Prizes, this year in September (Variety).

9. Speaking of comedy power couples, Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne are co-directing their first feature together, Am I OK?, that seems like it’s probably taking a lot of cues from early on in their relationship with a sort of lost Dakota Johnson finding that she might be into women after having nothing but misfires in dating men. See how close they come to real life with the trailer here, then look for it on Max come Jun. 6th.

10. Dropout might have gameshows better figured out than GSN as you can see with the season 3 trailer of Make Some Noise. This game show in particular has such a beautifully simple game, but gets many of the world’s very best improvisers to twist and contort the show into some Dropout magic.

11. Ren Faire, a doc coming to HBO seems like King of Kong, but for one particular Ren Faire in Texas. See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for it on HBO/Max come this Sunday, June 2nd.

12. A good amount of the country will have a chance to see the amazing Jenny Zigrino live coming up and a good amount of the country should not miss out.

A post shared by Jenny Zigrino (@jennyzigrino)

13. CBS’ Ghosts will have some competition at Netflix with The Undervale (not to mention that it will have the guiding hand of Dan Harmon as a producer) (Variety).

14. Let’s see if Steph Curry can best LeBron and Space Jam: A New Legacy with GOAT, Steph’s animated sports comedy feature (THR).

15. There’s more animated comedy worth keeping track with an animated series order for Joe Wengert and Aubrey Plaza‘s Kevin that follows a cat that wants to not live with humans anymore (THR). Not sure whether Joe or Aubrey (or someone else) would voice the cat, but either of them would be the perfect voice for an wonderfully anti-human cat.

16. The Stephanie Hsu comedy Laid that follows the mystery of formers lovers all strangely dying has gotten a stacked supporting cast now featuring John Early, Chloe Fineman, David Denman, and Andre Hyland (Deadline).

17.. Steve Carrell will be returning to a comedy series that ISN’T the revival of The Office, but, instead, takes him to a college campus with the producing hands of Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses (Deadline).

18. We’ll leave you with this: Sorry for taking so long. Turns out that running a theater while running a bureau is a lot of work.

Get Ready for More Havoc from the Privileged with Season 2 Trailer of White Lotus

October 6, 2022
News
aubrey plaza, f murray abraham, hbo, jennifer coolidge, michael imperioli, mike white, season 2, white lotus

Though the upcoming season of White Lotus trades Hawaii for Sicily and an almost an entirely cast and a supposed focus, according to creator Mike White, more on male privilege as opposed to mainly the obscenely wealthy, it all looks just as satirically juicy as the critically acclaimed, beloved, award winning first season.

Having Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli, and F. Murray Abraham next to a returning Jennifer Coolidge amidst a very enticing ensemble cast is frosting on the cake of the next chapter of the fictional White Lotus luxury resort franchise. Thank goodness that that the premiere date is only mere weeks away, specifically Sun. Oct. 30th on HBO/HBO Max.

Get a taste of the Italian flavor of chaos that’s to come on season 2 of The White Lotus with the first official trailer here.

Editor and Littlefield booker Gabe Henry not only loves both comedy and haikus, but saw that similarities between the precision of a joke and the 5-7-5 structure of a haiku and wanted to marry the two.

Gathering dozens and dozens of comedy’s very best and renowned including Aparna Nancherla, Roy Wood Jr., Maria Bamford, Bob Odenkirk, Janeane Garofalo, Jerry Seinfeld, Aubrey Plaza, Ziwe, Chris Gethard, and so many more, Eating Salad Drunk: Haikus for the Burnout Age by Comedy Greats gives you perfect morsels of comedic minimalism. Emily Flake even adds some more flavor to the haiku anthology with her wondrous illustrations.

Best of all, all author proceeds will go towards Comedy Gives Back, a crucial nonprofit for comedians, especially when it comes to mental health, medical, and crisis support resources.

Things Get a “Little” Strange When Craig Robinson Wears a Tam O’Shanter Hat in ‘Beverly Luff Linn’ Trailer

Often times, the best trailers get you intrigued with a movie without really telling you what’s going on. You’re confused, yet, maybe you want to see more.

Such is the case with the trailer for An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, directed by Jim Hosking and co-written by Hosking and David Wike. There seems to be a caper afoot, but the hype over a stage show that stars a man named Beverly Luff Linn (played by Craig Robinson) in Scottish garb seems to take precedence over any confusion (even though it’s not quite clear what the show is).

See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn in theaters and On Demand & Digital starting October 19th.

It’s got a full nationwide release starting today and playing at a theater near you.

So, you have as good of a chance as any to see Aubrey Plaza in one her best roles yet as a social media obsessed loner that’s a little too comfortable with stalking on the big screen.

Ingrid Goes West really did take us by surprise, mostly because we didn’t know what to expect. We especially didn’t expect something that’s both hysterical and suspenseful falling in line somewhere between, as we’ve said before, What About Bob?, Nightcrawler, and Young Adult.

We certainly can’t remember the last time we saw a psychological thriller comedy that was worth telling people about (or even really think of one off the top of our head).

Today, it opens up in NY and LA (and will open up in theaters nationwide later this month). Please find a screening nearest to you here.

Little Hours Red Band Trailer Plays Like Spiritual Sequel to Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Little Hours is a raunchy, unfiltered comedy set in medieval times juxtaposing the sort of comedy that might star Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, and Fred Armisen, but have nun, king, and peasant costumes.

That being the case of writer/director Jeff Baena’s latest work, you can see in the trailer how this could almost be the origin story of the “perilous” Castle Anthrax in Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Also, we loved that the Catholic League calls it, “Pure trash,” and that pull quote is featured in this trailer.

So, look for Little Hours to hit theaters on June 30th.

TBS Wants in on Aubrey Plaza’s Nightmarish Visions and Orders Pilot of Her “Nightmare Time”

Someone who goes by @evilhag on Twitter is bound to have some really fun nightmares.

Horror comedy/horror comedy is on the rise as a genre hybrid with anything from Scream Queens to Ash vs. Evil Dead to the upcoming Stan Against Evil carving out their own niche in TV.

Since TBS went through their rebranding earlier this year, they are all in on the high concept for their scripted series. So, a horror comedy anthology series from Aubrey Plaza along with the help of writers Darcy Fowler, Kieran Valla, and Seth Kirschner sounds like a really good get for them.

Anyone else imagining Plaza narrating a scary, but absurd camp fire story?

With an ensemble cast of Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll, Adam Pally, Brett Gelman, Alex Ross Perry, Jenny Slate, and Aubrey Plaza, you might think you’re listening to a supersized episode of Comedy Bang! Bang!

However, for the moment, that’s not the case. That cast has been assembled for the dramedy, Joshy, from Jeff Baena. Middleditch plays a groom-to-be whose wedding gets called off, but has to go through with the bachelor party anyway.

Sounds fun, huh?

Here’s the trailer.

Look for it in theaters starting August 12th, then streaming on Hulu.

Comedy and Women’s Rec League Basketball have intersected like they have never have before at The Pistol Shrimps.

Many women in the LA comedy community have found common ground by joining in on the same basketball league including The Pistol Shrimps that could be a powerhouse comedy troupe if it wanted.

Ultimately, this makes the game way more fun to watch. Where else are rec league games watched by a packed house and have members of Superego do commentary?

A documentary of this whole world was made, did the festival circuit, and has gotten picked up to stream soon at Seeso.

Here’s a taste of what’s to come in this trailer.

Looks like that Adult Swim model is more popular than ever.

Looking to expand into more comedy-centric or comedy-adjacent programming, The History channel is adding more programming on top of Join or Die with Craig Ferguson.

Night Class will be a late night block, not unlike Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. The block will include Great Minds with Dan Harmon (Dan travels in a time machine to visit history’s greatest minds as played by Jack Black, Aubrey Plaza, Paul F. Tompkins, Thomas Middleditch, Sarah Silverman, and more), Crossroads of History (Elizabeth Shapiro highlights some of the more unbelievable, less talked about moments in history featuring Jack McBrayer, Wayne Knight, Lloyd Ahlquist, and more), and How to Lose the Presidency (a panel revisits how certain candidates committed campaign suicide).

We’ll all actually get to see how Night Class feels next week when it premieres Feb. 25th at 11:30PM.

All of this was shot in a special years ago and is finally going to become available for all to bear witness to the madness they and director Lance Bangs put together.

Before you even start forming the question, you do not have to know sports to get into this. In fact, you don’t even have to be in attendance of the game that Matt and Mark are commentating on to enjoy it.

You’ve already probably heard about the LA based women’s basketball rec league that has gotten a lot of press from having The Pistol Shrimps (as well as the league’s dance squad, The LA City Municipal Dance Squad) that are filled with great comedy folks like Stephanie Allynne, Aubrey Plaza, and more.

Well, they now have a podcast of live in-game commentary, Pistol Shrimps Radio, done by two of the funniest people on podcasts/”venerable sports acknowledgers” Matt Gourley and Mark McConville who we’d hope you would know from the hysterical podcast Superego.

Here’s a whole episode on Soundcloud of what both sports fan and non-sports fan can enjoy so long as they both love absurdist comedic stylings.

They’re already ten episodes in, so listen, catch up, subscribe, etc.

Tonight will mark both the premiere of Golan The Insatiable the return of a new cartoon from Fox ADHD on Fox since they were taken off Fox’s schedule a year ago, then moved to FXx.

So, tune in 9:30PM tonight on Fox to Aubrey Plaza and Rob Riggle voice a sinister little girl and her demon pal and hopefully proof that Fox ADHD will indeed work as testing ground for new animated series that will eventually find their way to Fox.

Aubrey Plaza voices a misunderstood goth girl and Rob Riggle voices an ancient demon and the two become friends in Fox’s latest animated series Golan The Insatiable, coming from Fox ADHD.

The casting seems pretty on point here and, though the premise is darker than The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad, or Family Guy, this trailer shows that Golan could potentially be as goofy and absurd as the rest of the bunch.

We’ll find out if that’s so when Golan The Insatiable premieres on May 31st at 9:30PM on Fox.

“Golan The Insatiable” To Be First Fox ADHD Series to Make It To Fox Primetime

(via Deadline)

Though Fox ADHD had to move over from Fox to FXx, it turns out Fox isn’t completely done with ADHD on their main broadcast network.

Golan The Insatiable will have a summer run on Fox in primetime and be the first series from Fox ADHD on the network since their airtime got cut. It will follow a monstrous creature from another dimension that becomes unlikely friends with a strange, little, troublemaking girl.

The pair will be voiced by Rob Riggle and Aubrey Plaza respectively along with a fantastic supporting cast of Ken Marino, John DiMaggio, Maria Bamford, Nick Rutherford, and Rachel Butera.

Golan the Insatiable is set to premiere May 31st at 9:30PM and offers a fascinating contrast to Fox’s other animated series on Sunday nights: Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, and Family Guy.

Right after the finale of Parks and Recreation aired last night, the entire cast as well as co-creator Mike Schur (and a special guest that came to “Jamm” things up) appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to relive all the memories.

Of course, the goodbye, perhaps the last time all of them will be in a room together went as memorable and as in the spirit-of-Parks-and-Rec as it could be.

There was a barely rehearsed song for Seth Meyers.

There were toasts from one cast member to another one picked from a hat.

There was even another song that was supposed to be a final rendetion of “Bye, Bye Li’l Sebastian”, but Jim O’Heir, Aubrey Plaza, and Jon Glaser had other plans.

Newcastle Has Aubrey Plaza Call For The Small Brands To Band Together For Super Bowl Ad

The Super Bowl ads are just as much a tradition as the actual Super Bowl these days. Giant corporations are now spending around $4 million on 30 seconds of airtime to put on a commercial, even though it’s a thing that has arguably become harder and harder to gauge the effectiveness of.

Beer company Newcastle has opted to some exposure through a novel experiment for the not-so-giant companies in an initiative they’re calling the Band of Brands.

They’ve even recruited Aubrey Plaza in a fun meta Super Bowl ad to explain The Band of Brands further. Watch it here.

While we hope this will make for one of the more memorable, talked about ads, but we do know that there will be a lot of pausing to see exactly how many brands they fit into one commercial.

Tonight at 8PM on Lifetime, the melding of the Internet’s love of Grumpy Cat and Aubrey Plaza will be complete as that is when Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever will make its world wide premiere.

For weeks, Aubrey has been saying how insanely meta this movie is and how both the director and Lifetime basically let her say whatever she wanted since they’re not syncing it with Grumpy Cat’s lips at all.

We can all say how true that statement really is, in addition to see whether this will outdo Kim Kardashian’s butt in attempting to break the Internet, tonight at 8PM.

Also, Plaza encourages you all to live tweet the experience right along with her.

Aubrey Plaza Makes a Convincing Pitch For Us to All Watch Lifetime’s Grumpy Cat Christmas Movie

November 12, 2014
Uncategorized
aubrey plaza, grumpy cat, jimmy kimmel live, lifetime

Rather than a trailer or quotes pulled from favorable reviews from critics, Lifetime should have their marketing campaign lead by Aubrey Plaza’s explanation of Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

She can’t believe what went down with her voicing one of the most famous cats on the Internet, notes that this movie is historic, and uses the word “insane” more than once when describing working on it.

Those are pretty good selling points as far as we’re concerned. If you’re so inclined to now watch Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, it premieres on Lifetime on Nov. 29th at 8PM.
