Portlandia Has All Your Post-Nu-Found-Art Supplies at Shocking Art Store

January 29, 2015

Looking to create an art installation that will single handedly upset the establishment with things that most people leave in their curb for garbage trucks to pick up?

Well, look no further than Portlandia’s Shocking Art Store complete with guest Shepherd Fairey.

It shouldn’t be too long before a real version of this exists if it doesn’t already.

UK Comedy Series With U.S. Stars “Catastrophe” and “Cuckoo” Set to Come Stateside

There seems to be more cross-pollination between U.S. and U.K. comedy series as of late. Of course, The Office was famously adapted from Ricky Gervais’ version to the version starring Steve Carell that went for 9 seasons. Nowadays, James Corden and Showtime’s Episodes further connect the comedy bridge across the pond.

So, naturally, it would make sense that successful UK series Cuckoo that starred Andy Samberg and Catastrophe starring American comedian/author/Twitter king Rob Delaney and UK’s Sharon Horgan would find it’s way here.

NBC has ordered a pilot for an American remake of Cuckoo and Amazon has gotten rights to stream Catastrophe in the spring for people in the U.S.

As Second Dates Go, Will Weldon Had One of The Worst Second Dates You Could Have

When you think of how exactly a second date could go from a somewhat nice time to horribly awry, Will Weldon went through a gauntlet of many things you were probably thinking up.

Of course, as he’s telling this story after the fact on This Is Not Happening, he didn’t get murdered or kidnapped or anything of that nature, but a second date  like this one is still spectacularly awful.

Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, the pun burger names at Bob’s Burgers, and one Cole Bowden who made those burgers into real life playful concoctions on The Bob’s Burgers Experiment are all coming together in an actual cookbook for Bob’s Burgers.

Maybe, when the book is done, Bob’s Burgers can took over that one Fatburger here in LA again and serve Bowden’s creations.

There is talk between Jemaine and Bret for The Flight of The Conchords to go on tour later this year. We hope this comes to fruition as they were both magical during their run for Funny or Die’s first Oddball Festival Comedy Tour.

Also, it would be the perfect thing to follow up the other major comedy tour this year from Weird Al Yankovic scheduled to end later this year.

John Oliver’s Takes on Tasering Himself and The Super Bowl

Sometimes, as a comedian, you never really know what extremes you yourself will go to get a laugh until you’re presented with those extremes in real life. John Oliver found out that he would indeed follow through pretty far in that regard at a recent show and told the story on Letterman.

Oliver also gave his take on our most American of days here in America, The Super Bowl.

Enjoy these clips for now until next Sun., Feb 8th when Last Week Tonight returns to HBO at 11PM.

Comedy legend Mel Brooks has so many showbiz stories and is still damned funny at 88 we can only wonder why his comedy special “Live At The Geffen”, coming this weekend to HBO isn’t an entire mini-series.

Just a few more days until my first ever one man show #LiveAtTheGeffen. Jan. 31 on @HBO: http://t.co/nugo8VK3RT

Get a taste of the stories, jokes, songs, and more that’s all packed into Live At The Geffen in this teaser. Then, be sure to catch it at 9PM on this Sat. Jan. 31st on HBO.

If this somehow, interfering with your Super Bowl party, then you need to rearrange your priorities.

Aziz Ansari is continuing his relationship between Netflix and his stand-up going as his next special will be released exclusively through the online streaming service.

Live at Madison Square Garden will be coming in for a release just over a month from now on Fri. Mar. 6th. Since Parks and Recreation is over, perhaps Ansari might dedicate even more of his time to stand-up and this special could just be the start of that.

Also, we’re not sure if it’s a trend or not, but it seems the title of many specials are returning to the classic “Live at [venue name]” model.

What If Kristen Wiig Won The Lottery and Created Her Own Talk Show? Watch Trailer for “Welcome To Me”

January 31, 2015

After a series of dramadies and more grounded roles with Kristen Wiig, Wiig seems like she will get to be more of the wonderful weirdo that we all came to know and love on SNL in her latest film Welcome To Me from director Shira Piven and writer Eliot Laurence.

Wiig plays a woman who is more than a little offbeat, but then suddenly wins the lottery and creates her own talk show. The result, from this trailer anyway, seems to be Wiig getting to run with however absurd she wants to get.

After watching this, we hope that in some universe if not this one that Wiig would be the host kind of like she is here for a real talk show.

*Trailer has been taken down for the time being.

In David Cross’ upcoming Hits, an “organization” by the name of Think Tank Brooklyn led by Donovan McAfferey (James Adomian) seeks to “…challenge the suppressive and convoluted systems set forth by the self-appointed nanny state”. In the movie, that manifests itself by cherrypicking the plight of a disgruntled citizen and making a viral online awareness campaign around him.

So, after the success of the actual Kickstarter campaign for the movie, this Think Tank Brooklyn has “started” a new crowdfunding campaign for The Great American 1921 Gentlemen’s Box Company and they’re looking to raise $10,000,000.

We’ll let McAfferey tell you about the rest.

The short form, indie-as-indie-can-be TV phenomenon known as Channel 101 created by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab has inaugurated its 2015 season.

Already, they kicked 2015 off with one hell of a start with a new pilot, Kill The Baby, topping the votes Car Jumper and Skateboard Cop continuing their runs, as well new shows Halfway House and Father and Son rounding out the top 5.

Also, there’s an incredibly epic finale of Santiago.

In addition to that, you can catch the whole of The Channel 101 Incredibly Prestigious Achievement Awards from last year here.

As always, if you’re not familiar with any of this, then get familiar. If you are, this is a great alternative to The Super Bowl/there’s plenty of time to kill before The Super Bowl.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis Will Be Executive Producing “The Chris Gethard Show” at Fusion and Fusion Gets Broadcast Rights to Some Old TCGS Episodes

Despite how the last Will Ferrell-produced-Chris Gethard-starring show Big Lake went (cancelled after one season), Ferrell along with Zach Galifianakis will be executive producers on The Chris Gethard Show that’s coming to Fusion.

We do hope that means the wondrous chaos that is TCGS will get to reign on the half hour slot that Fusion has given them.

On top of 10 episodes that will air this year, perhaps starting in April, Fusion has picked up the rights to air 20 episodes from The Chris Gethard Show at MNN. We’d really be surprise if that doesn’t become some sort of marathon leading up to the show’s premiere.

Netflix Planning To Raise Their Debt $1 Billion More For Content Including Comedy Series and Specials

(via Variety)

In order to follow up in their plans to release triple the amount of content that they did last year, Netflix is plunking down a big pile of IOUs, around a billon of them in fact.

The online streaming service is set to release 320 hours of their own content, which will include the Wet Hot American Summer mini-series, the next season of BoJack Horseman, and Aziz Ansari’s Live at Madison Square Garden just to name a few.

The four picture deal with The Duplass Brothers just struck at Sundance will probably benefit from this as well.

All told, Netflix seems like it’s full-fledged major studio/network as opposed to just an online streaming service.
