Jill Soloway Now Developing Feminist Buddy Comedy For MTV

Jill Soloway who has deservedly received bushels of accolade for her Amazon series Transparent is now developing a new series that follows two women that reconnect after getting struck by lightning and their fervor for feminism.

The more intriguing thing to note about this project is that it’s going to MTV and not Amazon.

Hopefully, Soloway along with writers Lyle Friedman and Ashley Skidmore can bring the edgy, but smart comedy that MTV has tried for over the last few years (i.e Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous)

While the release over two months ago, you should pick up and enjoy Liz Miele’s debut album Emotionally Exhausting if you haven’t done so already. Miele’s subtle and laid back delivery comedically juxtapose really well next to going through all of her issues, whether it be emotional, dyslexic, or with “the pill”.

ABC Orders Pilots For Fortune Feimster and Jermaine Fowler Comedies

February 3, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

The pilot season is ramping up and networks are really trying to figure out their new game plan with comedy, especially after last season’s cancellation bloodbath.

Having them make it out of development, we think ABC is doing well to move forward with the semi-autobiographical sitcoms based on the lives of Fortune Feimster and Jermaine Fowler. Respectively, they’re called Family Fortune and Delores and Jermaine.

They’ll be two in a crowded field of several pilots that are now in contention at ABC. Both pilots are multi-camera projects and we can only hope that they steer clear of what happened to Mulaney.

The return of Last Week Tonight is just around the corner, this Sun. Feb. 8th at 11PM after Girls.

In fact, host John Oliver used to be lead-in by The Leftovers, for those of you that watch the show on HBO Go or clips on YouTube.

Oliver sat down with Seth Meyers discussed having to follow a comedy now as opposed to one of the weightiest of dramas as well as some choice words to “console” Seattle Seahawks fans in their devastating Super Bowl loss this past Sunday.

Female Stand-Up Docu-Comedy Series “Funny Girls” Coming to Oxygen in April

Oxygen is now set to have a whole documentary series following female comedians in their pursuit of making it. They’ve gathered a pretty great bunch to follow as well including Calise Hawkins, Ester Steinberg, Nicole Aimee Schreiber, Stephanie Simbari, Scout Durwood, and Yamaneika Saunders

The show follows them around semi-reality style through the highs and lows of being a comedian that’s hustling to make it big while also including plenty of bits of actual stand-up.

Check the trailer here.

Funny Girls will premiere Tuesday, April 7th at 9PM on Oxygen.

Business know-it-all Fast Company has a good idea of what flirting at work looks like in theory and what it looks like in actual practice.

So, as part of a web series based off misconceived notions of how you well you think you’re doing at the office, they’ve put together a handy guide for what you really sound and look like when attempting to lay down the charm, thick.

It’s like that expectations vs. reality scene in 500 Days of Summer except none of us are Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Zooey Deschanel.

Add to that list one from the very funny Dwayne Perkins that he shot at the Japanese American National Museum here in LA last month. There’s no set premiere/release date, but you’ll want to catch it as soon as it comes out, hopefully some time this year.

Also, take note how comedy specials like Bill Burr’s I’m Sorry You Feel That Way directed by Jay Karas and Braunger’s Big, Dumb, Animal directed by Steve Feinartz are getting to look more subtly, but nicely stylized.

Colin Quinn is now getting into the web series game starting in at L Studio.

Starting Feb. 18th, episodes of Cop Show will start rolling out. By the sound of the title, we can definitely imagine Quinn’s series take on procedural cop dramas might be like Burning Love and Hotwives’ take on reality dating/married shows.

If anything, we’ll just be happy to see Quinn back in a series.

AMC Giving Comedy Another Go With “Fast Boys” Now In Development

There was some excitement with AMC last year when they were perhaps dipping their toe into comedy waters with We Hate Paul Revere. Eventually, they passed on it after the pilot was shot.

Now, a new comedy project “Fast Boys” from Anthony Pucillo might have hope. It’ll follow “the great American hamburger boom” in Post-WWII America.

If Sterling Cooper were to pitch comedy series at AMC, this would definitely be in the running.

If you know David at all, those whims are pretty out there and also pretty hilarious.

So, if you want to hear how a D&D session would go with every character and rule completely made-up out of the imagination of an absurdist comedian, Party of 4 is for you.

Now That Ron Swanson’s Time Is Coming to a Close, Nick Offerman Is Spending His Time at Swanson’s Favorite Scotch, Lagavulin

The lines between Nick Offerman and, Ron Swanson, his iconic character on Parks and Recreation very often blur.

A perfect example is this ad for Lagavulin Scotch, the preferred scotch of Ron Swanson as well as the distillery where Offerman seems to be investing his time after Parks and Recreation by spreading the word, the Offerman/Swanson way, about the fine spirit.
