In the midst of The Golden Globes last night, there was a myriad of TV premieres including Togetherness, the new HBO comedy series from The Duplass Brothers.

If you were too busy discussing winners or even that George Clooney was apparently wearing the same tux from his wedding at The Golden Globes, HBO was nice enough to put the whole first organically delightful episode for all of our viewing pleasure on YouTube.

Watch and enjoy it here.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Won’t Premiere Until Sept. 8th

“Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will debut on Sept. 8, CBS announces. Colbert’s comment below: pic.twitter.com/IPJX0xBD2a

— Dave Itzkoff (@ditzkoff)

January 12, 2015

So, one of the very final dates in the beginning of this new era of late night is set. Sept. 8th, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on CBS at 11:30PM (via @ditzkoff).

You read that right. We all have to wait nine months until Colbert resumes his role as a host on the legendary Late Show. As he has said himself, "I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby.“

That’s a long time, especially considering what’s going to be happening in the meantime.

For one, David Letterman is signing off from The Late Show on May 20th.

James Corden, who will be following Colbert with The Late Late Show, starts his hosting duties several months earlier on Mar. 23rd.

…and…

Larry Wilmore will be starting next week on Jan. 19th with The Nightly Show at Comedy Central.

…then…

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returns for its second season Feb 8th at HBO.

…then…

Grace Helbig will be headlining her own talk show on E! ostensibly replacing Chelsea Handler starting in April, though it will air in primetime.

…then…

Conan O’Brien will tape a week of episodes at Comic Con this summer, which should be one of the most fun things to happen this year in late night.

The only other thing that is going to happen in the late night realm after Colbert takes over in the latter part of 2015 is the aforementioned Chelsea Handler doing a talk show on Netflix in 2016.

All of this is in addition to Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and Jon Stewart, continuing to build their late night empires both live on TV and online.

So, with all of those dates set, that leaves four months at CBS where 11:30PM is vacant. Apparently, there will be reruns (via THR) playing in that slot during that time leading in Corden. All other late night programs will be more than happy to play against reruns at 11:30PM at CBS.

What interests us is what exactly will Colbert be up to in these nine months. The format for his tenure at The Late Show is set to be much more traditional than The Colbert Report, which, we think, wouldn’t necessarily need nine months of pre-production and retooling.

Is there something else that Colbert is up to for most of this year? Maybe it’s just some well deserved time off?

Either way, we definitely want 2015 to go way faster now.

The Antics of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig Make Golden Globes Worth Watching

January 12, 2015
Uncategorized
amy poehler, bill hader, golden globes, kristen wiig, tina fey

Last night’s Golden Globes was the third and last time that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the ceremony and they did not disappoint. Their monologue had all their jokes and bits hit so well, as you’d expect for the room and over the telecast. They also didn’t shy away from the Bill Cosby jokes they said they were going to, an incredibly bold move for an awards show monologue.

This makes us think that they’re idea that this would be the last Golden Globes one worth entertaining.

However, it would also be worth entertaining the presenter segment with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. Come to think of it, they would be a pretty great hosting duo as well, wouldn’t they? #GoldenGlobesSeason2?

Kurt Braunohler Is Putting Messages in a Bottle, Possibly In Your Six Pack of Beers

Marching forward with his admirable mission of inserting absurdity and stupidity into the lives of strangers, Kurt Braunohler’s latest project involves placing a secret message in a single of bottle beer he bought and drank, then placed back into a six pack.

Given how well with writing secret messages in greeting cards he bought then placed back on the shelf they came from, we absolutely can’t wait to see and hear what happens with this endeavor.

Last year, we all got excited when Adult Swim announced that they had ordered a half hour series with Jack McBrayer and Triumph The Insult Comic Dog.

Well, the fruits of their labor are about to going to come to fruition as The Jack and Triumph Show now has a date to look forward: Feb. 20th according to this tweet from Adult Swim.

We’re not exactly what format their show will take, but we’d be fine with just Jack’s politeness having to deal with Triumph’s 24/7 roast on the street.

More specifically, all you have to do is wait until Mar. 17th when Yahoo Screen will release two episodes, then one per week after that.

Though, the cast and creator “thinks” you should already know that by now.

Newcastle Has Aubrey Plaza Call For The Small Brands To Band Together For Super Bowl Ad

The Super Bowl ads are just as much a tradition as the actual Super Bowl these days. Giant corporations are now spending around $4 million on 30 seconds of airtime to put on a commercial, even though it’s a thing that has arguably become harder and harder to gauge the effectiveness of.

Beer company Newcastle has opted to some exposure through a novel experiment for the not-so-giant companies in an initiative they’re calling the Band of Brands.

They’ve even recruited Aubrey Plaza in a fun meta Super Bowl ad to explain The Band of Brands further. Watch it here.

While we hope this will make for one of the more memorable, talked about ads, but we do know that there will be a lot of pausing to see exactly how many brands they fit into one commercial.

Woody Allen Set to Make a Series at Amazon For 2016

Transparent has broken a lot of ground for Amazon Studios, especially with their recent Golden Globes win. Now, Amazon, as you might expect, is opting for more critical acclaim by chasing down more high profile creators.

They caught a pretty big fish by getting Woody Allen to make The Untitled Woody Allen Project, a half-hour series, for a 2016 release.

There are no details about the show beyond that, but we wouldn’t be surprised at all if it featured a beautiful locale and dysfunctional people being stuck together.

Showtime is really, quite literally picking up its comedy line-up. They already re-upped Inside Comedy with David Steinberg for a fourth season.

Now, they also have Tig Notaro’s traveling live comedy show docu-series and the dramedy that was set to star Philip Seymour Hoffman on deck for this year.

In April, Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro will premiere on the 17th (via TV Guide) and Happyish, which just got a series pick-up now starring Steve Coogan will premiere on the 26th (via Deadline).

So, it would appear that we should all be on the look out for Showtime in 2015.

“The Survivors’ Issue” of Charlie Hebdo Upped To 5 Million Copies as 3 Million Sold

January 14, 2015

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Normally, the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo prints around 60,000 copies every week.

However, their latest issue is sort of a lightning rod as it is the issue following the attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo last week. So, a plan to print a million copies and then 3 million has now been upped to 5 million copies of what is being referred to as “The Survivors’ Issue” with the promised cartoon of Prophet Muhammad on the cover. Very shortly after the issue hit newsstands in France, 3 million copies had sold out and even auctioning on eBay for the historic issue skyrocketed to hundreds of Euros.

Soon, this issue of Charlie Hebdo will also be printed in English and a dozen or so other languages and made available in several countries for the first time.

We wouldn’t be surprised when copies hit U.S. newsstands will go just as fast, especially since it doesn’t look like Charlie is going to make a digital issue for purchase.

Miranda July’s First Novel “The First Bad Man” Out Now

The delightful multi-hypenate Miranda July has, even though she’s involved herself in so many other art forms including making the film Me and You and Everyone We Know, just released her first novel yesterday.

The First Bad Man follows the life of Cheryl Glickman, a woman with wild imagination of “a soul that migrates between babies”, but lives, in contrast, a much more ordinary life alone working for a nonprofit women’s self defense. The introduction of a self-centered boss’ daughter into her life throws Cheryl’s world out of balance.

Given July’s track record and this premise, which is as wonderfully July-esque as Moonrise Kingdom is as Wes Anderson-esque, we definitely think you should pick up a copy now.

It’s fantastic that almost the entire original cast of Wet Hot American Summer is returning to do the upcoming Netflix series.

It’s also pretty great that they’ll have some new “members” with some of indie comedy’s favorite players including Michaela Watkins, Randall Park (who you saw as Kim Jong-Un in The Interview), Lake Bell, John Slattery, Jayma Mays, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.

It would almost seem that the first poster alone for this new Wet Hot American Summer will be barely able to contain this even bigger, great ensemble cast.
