Key & Peele’s Director, Peter Atencio, Has Just Wrapped His Last Day on Key & Peele

Many of you or, we’re willing to wager, all of you reading this right now probably have become big fans of the show Key & Peele on Comedy Central over their four seasons throughout the last couple of years.

As such, you’re more than acquainted with the shows titular stars Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, but you should also be familiar with and tip your hat to the show’s director Peter Atencio, who, atypical of almost every TV show in existence, directed every episode of Key & Peele.

Well, last night, Peter Atencio himself announced it was his final day on Key & Peele, which he has left his mark on indelibly. We have yet to hear what Atencio’s next projects are or who will step in for him in the future, but, for now, just go watch a bunch of Key & Peele sketches and appreciate his work.

John Oliver Fills in Once More for Jon Stewart at The Daily Show

Jon Stewart’s directorial debut with Rosewater opens today and, as you could imagine, he used last night’s episode of The Daily Show to promote it.

With that being the case, Stewart felt it would be tasteless to be also promoting while hosting. So, he was just in luck that one John Oliver, who has had filled in for him before, had just wrapped season one of Last Week Tonight at HBO and was free to fill in.

Watch Oliver sit once more at The Daily Show desk right here.

Netflix releases its latest stand-up special today with Chelsea Peretti’s “One Of The Greats” shot at The Palace of Fine Arts and directed by Lance Bangs.

If you have to take a break from work in order to watch this, you could always say to people, “Hey, I’m watching One of the Greats” (We’re not sure if Peretti intended the title for that specific instance or not).

Either way, watch it on Netflix here.

Moses Storm’s “Modern Millennial” Is Now on a Boat

The wonderful live performance art installation, Modern Millennial, that Moses Storm put on a couple of months ago had to unfortunately leave the space that was deep in a sketchy part of the Fashion District in downtown LA due to funding as well as an altercation with the building manager.

Fortunately, Storm has since relocated Modern Millennial to a boat that docks at King Harbor in Redondo Beach. This could potentially be an even more immersive experience than Storm has previously put on since it’s on a boat.

In any case, you should go check it out (according to LA Weekly, the boat docks twice a day) and hope that more art installations had as much fun as Storm does.

Emojis are already taking communication back to a time where it was harder to understand each other. So, with that in mind, why not make that communication even harder and more artisanal with Nick Offerman’s painstakingly hand crafted Wood Emojis?

Yes, they are actually wooden emoji symbols that you would have to actually carry.

So, watch the commercial that aired during Conan here and keep hoping that they’ll be actually selling them at Offerman’s real life woodshop beyond them existing for this Conan bit here.

Both Funny or Die and The Onion Inc. Are Being Evaluated For Potential Sale

November 15, 2014

funny or die, the onion

(via Bloomberg)

Just this week, it’s been reported that the ubiquitous comedy brands of Funny or Die and The Onion, along with their offshoots of The A.V. Club and Clickhole, have had financial advisors evaluate their worth for a potential sale.

While certainly both Funny or Die and The Onion have had enough success to garner a nice price tag, it’s unclear what exactly will happen if someone does buy out or into either of them.

Perhaps, both companies feel like they can reach further with whatever they want to accomplish being part of a bigger whole or having more capital in general to work with similar to the way Nerdist, Red Hour, and Smart Girls at the Party were acquired by Legendary.  However, part, if only a small sliver, of the autonomy that has gotten them to where they are today would surely be sacrificed in a sale.

While nothing is decided and many of the details are still private, where Funny or Die and The Onion have gotten based off of respectively making funny web videos and satirical news headlines is pretty amazing.

Look How Much Fun You Could Be Having With Paul F. Tompkins’ Dead Authors Podcast

For quite some time now, Paul F. Tompkins has been playing the role of the late author H.G. Wells in a live show called Dead Authors that is performed live once a month at UCB Franklin. As the show is called Dead Authors, there is another comedian that plays another dead author that has, through Wells’ fictionalized time machine, been brought to the present day to chat with Wells in a front an audience at a comedy theater. In short, it’s one hell of a good time.

Also, Dead Authors is now anachronistically a podcast as well that you should most certainly subscribe too.

Just take a look how much fun Paul and Mary Holland who is in the role of Virginia Woolf are having just trying to promote a single episode.

Jerry Seinfeld picks a Ferrari to take Amy Schumer for a spin in the latest episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but the episode takes a turn when the legendary luxury car starts billowing smoke and more.

In fact, they just go to some diner as opposed to what seems like a pre-selected, kitschy and/or upscale place that serves coffee. Of course, this all makes for great conversation.

While it has been noted that Funny or Die now has an estimated price tag, the folks at Funny or Die aren’t just sitting pretty waiting for a buyer or group of investors to sink in hundreds of millions of dollars.

In fact, South Korea now wants in on the business model of Funny or Die and Be Funny Studios based in Seoul, South Korea has partnered up with FoD to do just that. There will be plenty of collaborations between the two studios in producing videos that feature stars from both sides of The Pacific.

Perhaps, if Funny or Die keeps going in this direction, they won’t have to sell.

Hannibal Buress Reviews a Cracker Barrel

Hannibal Buress just got in his second restaurant review following his torching of Lamb’s Creek with his thoughts on the popular country style restaurant chain, Cracker Barrel. Again, Hannibal’s recommendations edge out more traditional restaurant reviews because, well, it’s Hannibal Buress talking about restaurants where, in this case, happened to buy a keyboard.

Hannibal says he’s retiring from the restaurant review game, but we’d wager that this is hardly the end of him making goofy videos while on tour for Comedy Camisado TV.

Bill Cosby’s Netflix Special Still Scheduled To Be Released Amidst Resurfaced Rape Allegations

November 16, 2014

(via Deadline)

Bill Cosby has been canceling on a lot of things lately.

It’s no secret as to why since allegations of rape from decades ago have resurfaced. Cosby, as you probably would guess, doesn’t want to talk about it. In fact, a lawyer representing Cosby issued a statement saying, “Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment.”

Even with how devastatingly tarnished his public image currently is, as shown with how poorly his user-generated meme experiment went, Bill Cosby 77, his upcoming Netflix special, is still set for a release.

Given his current course of action, we’re guessing that Bill Cosby 77 will definitely be received far differently than his last special Far From Finished (even if it’s objectively just as good), that he’s not addressing the allegations in this latest special either, and that someone is going to make a documentary about all of this (if there isn’t one already in the works).

Romantic Comedy Moments Are Often Creepy in Real Life Just as Shown by Alexandra Kern

With beautiful people, perfect lighting, perfect wardrobe, written lines, and multiple takes, actors in a romantic comedy can make you completely believe in a fictionalized way of meeting the love of your life.

Of course, movies are far away from real life, even when they’re based on true stories. As that’s the case, Alex Kern’s SingleDumb web series shows how one typical rom com scene is not so alluring when attempted in reality.

Watch it here.

Many movie/TV adaptations often try to adapt to the time of the their release, especially if there’s a big gap in time from when the last piece of work from the source material was published.

According to Paul Feig, this won’t be the case for the Peanuts 3D movie he’s producing, set for release a year from now. By the looks of it in some of the first images and an interview with USA Today, he’s going to keep his word.

Perhaps, this will be one thing you will have come across recently that won’t ruin your childhood.

The famed 1930s/40s comedy duo of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy will be the latest in comedy’s canon to get a biopic. UK director Jon S. Baird (Filth) and writer Jeff Pope (Philomena) are set to helm and write the project, respectively, that will focus on the farewell tour of Laurel and Hardy in the early 1950s.

This might be a wild guess, but how likely do you think it would be for this Laurel and Hardy biopic to finish before the Richard Pryor one that looks like it’s actually moving forward?
