Louis CK & Aziz Ansari’s Web Specials to Air

May 9, 2012
Uncategorized

DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS UPDATE On March 20th, I released my second standup special Dangerously Delicious for download/stream on azizansari.com for $5 (thanks to Louis CK for figuring out the Internet). Its been a great experience and I’m glad I did it. I wanted to give an update to answer some commonly asked questions. ARE MP3s GOING TO BE AVAILABLE? Ideally I wanted to release MP3s directly at a low price the same way I did the video of  special, but contractually I have a record deal with Comedy Central who put out Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, my first record. (And did a great job, I enjoyed working with them on that special and CD/DVD). Anyway, I owe them albums and decided to just release this with them as well. If you really want MP3s, you can get the album on iTunes and all that stuff starting May 20th. To be clear though, I’d rather you buy the video from me for the cheaper price of $5 and you can experience the audio only version by closing your eyes or looking away from your screen while you watch.  IS THIS MATERIAL THE SAME MATERIAL YOU ARE PERFORMING ON YOUR NEW BURIED ALIVE TOUR? NOOOOOOOOOO!! Buried Alive is a totally different hour with no overlap. I worked really hard to have a new tour ready for this summer, so please rest assured its all material I haven’t released on any special. If you are interested in coming to see Buried Alive, tickets and tour dates are here. IS DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS GOING TO BE ON TV? Kind of. I edited a new version that’s about 20 minutes shorter (for commercials) and bleeped. Its significantly different than the uncensored, uncut one that you buy and own on azizansari.com for $5. This television version premieres on May 20th at 10 on COMEDY CENTRAL. I decided to do this for a few reasons. First off, to get Emmy consideration a version of the special needs to air on television. Secondly, this version is so different from the real deal one you get from me, that I didn’t feel like its cheating anyone who bought it. Also people buy CDs/DVDs of specials for way more than $5 and versions of them air on Comedy Central so I thought people would understand that. I’m hoping it’ll get more people to hear about the special and check out the full version from me, which will in turn help me put out more content in this fashion (which people seem to like). WILL YOU DO YOUR NEXT SPECIAL LIKE THIS? Maybe? Who knows what the landscape will be like in a few years when I release it. I have thoroughly enjoyed releasing Dangerously Delicious this way though and appreciate all the support. WHO WON THE FACEBOOK CONTEST? We did a contest where the city with the most Facebook likes on the azizansari.com page would get a free show. New York City won. Details on the show soon, just trying to squeeze it in between tour dates. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BOYZ II MEN VIDEO? “I’ll Make Love to You” with the home security technician played by the dude from Above the Rim.

Louis CK’s award winning Live at the Beacon Theater will air on FX May 12th.

Aziz Ansari’s Dangerously Delicious will air on Comedy Central May 20th 10PM.

Hopefully, this doesn’t mean the “great experiment” in comedian self-distribution is over.

Stephen Colbert’s I Am Pole (And So Can You!) is Now Available

May 9, 2012
Uncategorized

As we’ve mentioned, Stephen Colbert’s first children’s book, I Am a Pole (And So Can You!), is now available in hardcover, e-book and an audiobook read by Tom Hanks. 100% of the proceeds from the audiobook will be donated to US Vets. To mark the occasion, a special page has been created on the Colbert Nation website with info and links to buy. It also features both of the original installments of Stephen’s interview with Maurice Sendak, which saw the unveiling of I Am a Pole, and Stephen’s special tribute to the late author from last night’s show.

Yes, the children’s book that Colbert came up with while interviewing the late great Maurice Sendak is now a reality. Also, the audiobook version is read by Tom Hanks. Just try and have a bad Wednesday, now.

The Comedy “Trades” 5/10

May 10, 2012
Uncategorized

If we had water cooler’s in comedy, this is what we’d be talking about (hopefully).

–Mindy Kaling’s comedy got the greenlight from Fox. Considering Steve Carell has left, how worried exactly are fans of The Office now?

–Jimmy Fallon’s Guys with Kids got picked up by NBC. Still can’t outdo slow-jamming the news with Obama though.

–Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost together again (on movie The World’s End). They have apocalyptic comedy on lock, wouldn’t you say?

–Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, and David Wain to team up for They Came Together. It should be a welcome parody of a genre (romantic comedy) unlike announced Scary Movie 5.

–Conan O’Brien will be on The Late Show with David Letterman. Odds are that this won’t be the historic moment in late night history that many blogs would hope it would be.

–Cougar Town to move to TBS. Not quite sure if that means the gap between cable and network comedy is coming closer or farther.

–Sundance favorite comedy Liberal Arts with Josh Radnor, Elizabeth Olsen, Richard Jenkins, and Allison Janney to be released by IFC Sept. 14th. Given the rise of Portlandia and the coming of Comedy Bang Bang and Bunk, IFC still can do movies even though no one thinks of them as the Independent Film Channel much any more.

Community Gets Another Season and Other Comedy “Trades” News

May 11, 2012
Uncategorized

It’s true. Community is getting 13 more episodes for next season. So, don’t freak out when you just read someone hunting for web traffic by just making stuff up.

In other “trade” news:

–HBO & Vice Magazine developing show with help from Bill Maher and Fareed Zakaria. We can’t help but think that Bill Maher would just laugh non-stop while reading an issue of Vice.

–Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell produced by Chris Rock will premiere in August. Good move to avoid premiering against IFC’s comedy series premiere line-up in June.

–NBC also renewed 30 Rock. That won’t save them from the wrath of comedy nerds online if they ever do get rid of their Thursday line-up.

–Conan writer Deon Cole gets comedy series greenlight from TBS. TBS might be starting to become a legitimate player in the cable comedy game.

–ABC renewed Modern Family and expected to do the same with Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B**** in Apt. 23. Modern Family might be this generation’s Married with Children whenever 90’s nostalgia gets around to Married with Children.

–Fox renewed Family Guy and American Dad. How long before South Park makes another Family Guy parody episode? Any takers?

–Ed Helms, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer are returning to The Office. Just make a movie already.
