Hari Kondabolu’s Documentary “The Problem with Apu” Premieres Tonight

Tonight, Hari Kondabolu will take a cue from Adam Conover from Adam Ruins Everything and present the problematic nature of Apu, the Indian Simpsons character voiced by famed white voice actor, Hank Azaria.
The Problem with Apu premieres tonight on TruTV and, given how the last year has really hit the point home that one should listen to groups that are underrepresented, misrepresented, or oppressed, you should give it a watch.
Joey Izzo is absolutely a filmmaker you should be keeping an eye on as his films have made the rounds on the film festival circuit already (including being featured at Cannes). This selection of short films will also be presented with performances from Kate Berlant and Power Violence, which should round out the evening nicely between experimentation and silliness.
Tickets are $10 and you can (and should) get them here.

Dave Chappelle’s Next Special “Equanimity” Will Be on Netflix on New Year’s Eve
What will be interesting here is to see a brand new special, Equanimity, from Dave Chappelle as opposed to two hours that were taped and then shelved until they were sold to Netflix much later. That was the case with the two specials released earlier this year.
Lord knows that there are plenty of things for Dave to weigh in on including with what went on around his SNL monologue with Trump, apologize for saying to give Trump a chance, and, maybe, his stance on trans people.
Also, it would be nice to end 2017/starts 2018 with a great hour from Chappelle. Look for Equanimity to start streaming on New Year’s Eve.
This night features some of the best sandwiches in town, a sweet collection of short films, stand-up, and, on top of all of that, a screening of Wayne’s World all for free.
There’s no helping wanting to say “Party Time! Excellent!”

Kickstarter for Hayworth Theater and Dynasty Typewriter Is Sucessful and LA Comedy Will Be Getting a New Venue Soon

After all was said and done, Jamie Flam’s Dynasty Typewriter raised $102,997 for the opening of the gorgeous, restored Hayworth Theater last night. This comes in just with perfect timing as LA has just lost two venues Cinefamily @ The Silent Movie Theatre and Trepany House @ Steve Allen Theater forever over the last few weeks.
Congratulations to Flam and company and Dynasty Typewriter AND The Hayworth!
Now, we have this timeline and whatever else Jamie has up his sleeve to look forward to. You might want to follow Dynasty Typewriter on Twitter, FB, Instagram to see exactly what’s coming.

Aussie comedians Tim Batt and Guy Montgomery have now put themselves through a year of watching Grown-Ups 2 every week, a year of watching Sex and the City 2 every week, and are finishing their demented self-inflicted experiment known as The Worst Idea of All Time podcast with a year of watching We Are Your Friends (you know, that movie about dubstep with Zac Efron) every week.
They’ll be doing a live podcast at Nerdmelt at Meltdown Comics next month and you can see for yourself what they have done to their own psyches.

Comedy Central Announces Latest Half-Hour Specials from Emmy Blotnick, Tim Dillon, Devin Field, Megan Gailey, Chris Garcia, Langston Kerman, Mike Lawrence, Ryan O’Flanagan, and Sarah Tiana
Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents, the current brand for Comedy Central’s half-hour stand-up comedy specials, has just announced a new line-up featuring 9 comedians that are, in our opinion, solid through and through.
If you’re in New Orleans at the beginning of next month, you can attend the tapings for these specials at The Civic in New Orleans. Tickets available here.
Watch Chris Gethard Try to Double the Budget of His Show via Gambling in Atlantic City
This remote segment really exemplifies Gethard’s own mantra, “Lose Well”, perfectly.
Please watch and enjoy it here.
Thor: Ragnarok Is Every Bit a Taika Waititi Film and Definitely One of the Most Fun Movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
In case you didn’t know or haven’t seen it, the third standalone Thor film has an extra special, humorous touch by Taika Waititi, the creative force behind What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, which makes for several really laugh out loud moments as opposed to the few that are usually sprinkled throughout a typical MCU movie.
So, go see it or see it again if you haven’t already.
Patton Oswalt Performs Even More Mike Huckabee Twitter Jokes on Kimmel
Earlier this year, Patton Oswalt went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and breathed some “life” into “jokes” tweeted out by Mike Huckabee as Huckabee has fashioned and proliferated his own brand of humor, but has not gotten around to performing them live in a “set”.
Huckabee’s foray into comedy has continued since then and, as such, Patton has returned to attempt to tell these jokes as if they were in real stand-up setting, albeit one that’s from the 80s.
“Jeff Ross Roasts the Border” Premieres Tonight

As other pressing issues are currently dominating the news, you might have, just for a moment, forgotten the issues of immigration to the U.S. and the wall that Trump was to build between here and Mexico.
To shine a line and humanize the issue and the people who are at risk because of DACA being in jeopardy, ICE raids, etc., Roastmaster General Jeff Ross is doing another one of his roast specials that heads to the bordertown of Brownsville, TX.
If you’re curious to see what Jeff do and how exactly he’ll be roasting whomever he roasts, you can catch Jeff Ross Roasts The Border tonight on Comedy Central at 10PM.
So, a kibitz at the Kibitz Room at Canter’s Deli with Michael Showalter that will donate part of the proceeds to supporting to Puerto Rico sounds pretty swell to us.
If you do too, you can get your tickets in advance for $18 here.

Tomorrow, we’re coming to The OC to have some MANDATORY GOOD TIMES at the Rec Room in Huntington Beach!
Unfortunately, Billy Wayne Davis won’t be able to join us this time around, but Nick Turner will be joining us ensuring that we still can force a lovely evening of comedy.

Anthony Atamanuik Thinks of Himself as a Therapy Dummy When Playing Trump
To simply say that people are mad at the 45th President of the United States is to laughably underscore the rage the permeates the veins of millions of red blooded Americans and people worldwide.
Anthony Atamanuik, who, in our opinion, does the best job of satirically portraying Trump on The President Show, welcomes the catharsis he gives people by allowing them to openly mock and belittle him as Trump.
He details his journey in playing Trump up to this point in his interview on last night’s Colbert.
Well, Cinefamily Is Closing Down for Good
Well, Cinefamily Is Closing Down for Good
Following the internal investigation of pervasive sexual harassment through the organization Cinefamily and the Silent Movie Theatre are closing up shop permanently. It has been decided that the damage done was far too great to recover from and Cinefamily is no more.
So, this means LA has just lost another beloved indie venue (the Steve Allen Theater has also just closed its doors), which makes it even more crucial that you back Dynasty Typewriter @ The Hayworth Theater, which has just one day left for its Kickstarter.
The Dollop Hits Their 300th Episode, Does a Back-to-Back Episode on Trump, and Is Also Headed to Thailand for a Podcast Festival

As they have just surpassed 300 episodes, The Dollop just showed why there are one of the best comedy podcasts around (that also happens to be one of the best history podcasts around too).
They did a devastating set of back-to-back episodes on Trump showing why the 25th Amendment should he have been enacted for his impeachment on Day 1 of his presidency. In fact, their go-to designer, James Fosdike, made a special design (seen above) for the occasion that you can buy on a t-shirt.
On top of that, hosts Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds will be doing their first episode in Thailand, a place largely untouched by English language podcasts for The Koh Samui International Podcast Festival. It’ll be a whole week of fun just between Aussie podcast The Little Dum Dum Club and The Dollop in June 2018.
We cannot wait to see what Dave comes up with when tackling Thai history, not to mention how he’ll end up pronouncing everything.
Ed Helms to Return to Comedy Central for “The Fake News with Ted Nelms” TV Special

So, if this is a “fake news” TV special, it stands to reason that it would be the “opposition” to The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, right?
In any case, Ed Helms back in Daily Show mode will be a welcome sight to see on The Fake News with Ted Nelms on Wednesday, December 13th at 10PM on Comedy Central.
Potentially, this might be the most important holiday TV special this year?
You’re The Worst Renewed for Fifth and Final Season at FXx

One of FXx’s best series to date will come to a conclusion in a fifth season. For our money, this is the captivating will they-won’t they story for our time.
It does leave you wondering what’s coming down the pipe over at FXx that might fill it shoes.
Before that happens, we can rest somewhat easy knowing that there’s one more season of You’re The Worst coming.
Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson, the hosts of the famed Guys We F*cked podcast, have just released a book, F*cked: Being Sexually Exploitative and Self-Confident in a World That’s Screwed, and, of course, are on a book tour.
One of their stops will be here in LA at the Main Room of The Comedy Store this Sunday and you ought to get tickets sooner rather than later. Do so here.

Bill Burr, Wayne Federman, and Jamie Lee Will All Let Pete Holmes Crash in Season 2 of “Crashing”
Pete Holmes, who we would imagine is currently living life to the fullest right now, will be, in his HBO show, recreating version of a much more desperate time in his life for a whole second season.
See who Pete crashes with this time ‘round including Bill Burr, Wayne Federman, and Jamie Lee as well as plenty of other notable cameos in this trailer.
Season 2 of Crashing premieres on Sunday, January 14, at 10:30PM on HBO.
Update (spoiler alert): Wayne Federman doesn’t let Pete crash, per @federman.
Nick Kroll and John Mulaney Will Return as to Host 2018 Spirit Awards
Nick Kroll and John Mulaney Will Return as to Host 2018 Spirit Awards
When 2020 (hopefully) rolls around, we’ll have a non-psycho President elected and Kroll and Mulaney will be seen as one of the best comedy duos of the last decade.
We’ll be excited to see what they have up their sleeve. The 2018 Spirit Awards are set to air on Saturday, Mar. 3rd at 5PM PST on IFC.
Just so you know, rare are the chances to see someone like Jermaine Fowler do an extended set for free these days like he will be doing this Wednesday at Genghis Cohen.
Tickets are FREE w/RSVP. Get in on this here.
