Get C.J. Sullivan’s Debut Album “What am I complaining about?”

December 19, 2017

For the last several years, there have been so many great comedians who have gotten their comedy sea legs in Chicago including Kyle Kinane, Hannibal Buress, and Cameron Esposito just to name a very few.

CJ Sullivan is one the latest of such transplants from Chicago to here in LA and his debut album What am I complaining about? makes his presence felt in the Chicago comedy tradition. Sullivan weaves smoothly between a sense of calm and anger in his succinct, detailed observations throughout this hour, that we should note, was recorded before the election (a more hopeful time).

So, get What am I complaining about? off of iTunes or Amazon now.

Watch Teaser for Cartoon Trump Spin-Off from Colbert

Coming to Showtime on Sunday, February 11th at 8PM to Showtime will be the series premiere of Our Cartoon President, an entire animated series born out of the recurring cartoon Trump segments from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

It should be noted that this will be the second televised comedy series entirely dedicated to satirizing Trump as President and, as it’s animated, it seems much less terrifying than the reality that it’s making fun of.

See for yourself in the teaser here.

Jack Black Confirms That a Tenacious D Post-Apocalyptic Rock Opera Is in the Works

While on Conan, Jack Black confirmed that Jables and KG will return in the not so distant future with a Tenacious D comedy rock opera. After some considerable time off and a foray into jazz, it’s about time for a new hour or so of Tenacious D.

Black didn’t give up too many details, but just the notion that it’s underway should be exciting enough.

As it is “post-apocalyptic rock opera”, it should also be the perfect soundtrack for our time.

On his debut comedy album, Brent Sullivan displays the marvelous juxtaposition of his dulcet voice and cadence and his anxiety ridden life that seems to be hilariously unraveling at every turn, kind of like what an actual Barf City would be like.

Seriously, we’d wager you won’t hear a more soothing sounding story about a sexual identity crisis from anyone else.

So, pick up Barf City fresh off the presses of AST Records (also available on iTunes and Amazon).

Jack Black Returns to Role of Scheming Musician in “The Polka King”

Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky’s adaptation The Polka King follows the true story of how a beloved local music legend dubbed The Polka King got caught up in a ponzi scheme and the inevitable chaotic aftermath that follows.

Playing the titular Polka King will be none other than Jack Black, which makes us want to believe that this character is somehow a distant relative to Dewey Finn, Black’s seminal character in 2003′s School of Rock.

Also, Jenny Slate, Vanessa Bayer, Jason Schwartzman, JB Smoove, and Jackie Weaver make what look to be a pretty fantastic supporting cast.

See for yourself in the trailer here.

The Polka King will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, Jan. 12th.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Renewed for 10th Season at HBO

Officially, this means that Curb Your Enthusiasm will have had more seasons than Seinfeld. Also, think about how rare it is that live action scripted series get to double digit seasons these days. Truly, Larry David has built a comedy empire off of being annoyed about things.

Production for the tenth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm will start Spring 2018.

Almost nobody does a comedy special and has broadcasted or streamed to people live. It’s such a risky thing to do and takes so much skill and comedic prowess that to even think about doing such a thing has been a rare occurrence. Brian Regan did do a live special for Comedy Central, but he is, after all, Brian Regan.

That being said, Chris Fleming is so unbelievably funny and such a dynamic performer, we believe that he can pull off livestreaming his special on Facebook Live. On Decemeber 21st at 6PM PST, Chris will be doing just that while taping his hour special Showpig from Chicago’s Thalia Hall.

You’ll be able to watch it on his FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/chrisflemingfleming/

Pick Up Married Couple Cameron Esposito & Rhea Butcher’s Album “Back to Back”

December 11, 2017

Sure, plenty of comedians talk about being married. There will always be plenty of material to mine from matrimony.

However, very few, if any, actually do stand-up together and release it as an album. Even if both spouses are indeed comedians, the majority of the time, they’d want an entire hour to themselves.

Leave it to one of comedy’s most affable couples Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher to delve into pretty much uncharted territory. Together, they give a delightful look into their lives, between two people that happen to be wondrous, introspective stand-up comedians, as a happily married couple in 2017 via their album Back to Back.

Much like their live show/podcast Put Your Hands Together, they start off the hour together, then do separate sets, highlighting their individual comedy stylings and their playful back-and-forth as a duo on stage.

Don’t be surprised to see if this starts a trend of hours from married comedy couples.

You can get Back to Back now off of AST Records with buttons or shirts (or both) or off of iTunes.
