Jen Kirkman Returns to Drunk History Once More to Tell the Story of Edith Wilson

There was a period during President Woodrow Wilson’s administration where he fell so ill that his wife, Edith Wilson, effectively took over much of his day-to-day responsibilities, even when it required dealing with Congress.

Drunk History enlisted one of its best in Jen Kirkman to tell the story and Jen does not disappoint.

So, you’re probably going to want to snag tickets as soon as you can.

Pay What You Want for Tim Gilbert’s Album “Please Help Me I Am Very Sick”

Tim Gilbert, hailing from Toronto, Canada, has just put out a great comedy album this week and you can have and listen to it over and over for whatever price you choose.

It’s called Please Help Me I Am Very Sick and is a fun, dark romp through Gilbert’s life and we suggest you get your copy and enjoy.

As far as whether you have to use currency in paying what you want (i.e. barter system?), we’re not sure, but the important this is that you get and listen to Gilbert’s album.

Brett Gelman finally made his first late night panel interview appearance on Conan last night. Gelman was sure to not waste the opportunity and showed us how far he’s coming from his very first commercial to now saying he’s a big star on a late night talk show.

After this, we do hope to see more of Gelman all around the late night talk show circuit.

ABC Having Jermaine Fowler Develop a Semi-Autobiographical Comedy

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

In this latest round of networks getting ready for pilot season, ABC has picked up a great project in having the very funny Jermaine Fowler develop a family comedy based on his life, which much of his stand-up is based on.

More specifically, the series would follow a college drop out that moves in with his grandmother and a former DC cop. With this premise in mind, we think this could work or as a multi-cam or single camera sitcom. Hopefully, it will get a pilot order and we’ll get to see which one it will end up being.

It’ll feature interviews with his closest friends and contemporaries and examine through his whole amazing career as a comedian and actor including the late Jonathan Winters.

David Huntsberger who we’d you would know from his stand-up and the podcast he co-hosts Professor Blastoff is going to do his first stand-up comedy special, but is intending to really emphasize how special it could be.

You’ve probably seen clips of stand-up or funny stories animated, but Huntsberger wants to have through animation throughout his whole special, but can only do so if he raises $25,000 over the next month on Kickstarter.

He’s at $1,585 as of this post being written and has 28 days left, so please make sure this extra special comedy special comes to fruition.

Having taking the summer off from social media, Patton Oswalt has been able to take a step back, or rather look up from his smartphone and make some very keen observations as he’s wont to do.

In fact, he wrote a whole article on it over at Time and, after all of this, he’s thinking of making a Summer break from social media an annual tradition.

Now that’s he officially back, we’re sure he’s got plenty of worthwhile stuff in store for us all via his Twitter account.

A couple of months ago, Bryan Cranston announced that he was officially developing a series based on The Dangerous Book For Boys by Conn and Hal Iggulden.

That project has officially made the next step as it was just bought up by NBC. Greg Mottola, who has directed episodes of The Comeback and Arrested Development as well as Superbad, is set to write and direct the adaptation.

Along with other projects such as the one based on Joe Wengert’s life, NBC’s development slate gets more and more intriguing.

For the last several weeks, many of all of our favorite late night programming has taken their summer vacations and we’ve all been left with reruns at 1 in the morning.

Now that Summer’s over, it’s all back to work for all of us, which includes brand new episodes of Letterman, Kimmel, Fallon, Conan, Meyers, The Daily Show, “@midnight”, Colbert, and Ferguson (that’s Craig Ferguson mind you, not Ferguson, MO).

For tonight, you should especially watch Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris on Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC 12:35AM) and Brett Gelman and Brooks Wheelan on Conan (TBS 11PM)

HBO Has Commissioned a New Four Episode Comedy from Jemaine of the Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords’ Bret and Jemaine might be back at it again and you might be able, in the same turn, stop holding your breath.

According to a recent interview with Jemaine Clement, HBO has commissioned four episodes of a new comedy from Jemaine. It’s unclear if it’s going to stem from the world of the series of Flight of the Conchords or if it’s going to be something different, hopefully still with delightfully funny tunes and jams.

Whatever it ends up being, we’re glad that Clement is up to something that we’ll be able to readily watch in the States and we hope it makes to HBO soon.

Sundance Animated Shorts Touring Throughout Select Theaters This Fall

September 2, 2014

(via Hollywood Reporter)

When it comes to awards for film, short films almost get overlooked despite having their own category in several major film festivals and awards ceremonies. No matter how acclaimed a short film is, it will likely never get to see the light of a movie projector onto a screen in your local theater.

Sundance is changing that by touring short films across the country and now plans, for this fall, to tour a curated selection of animated short films from coast to coast here in the U.S. Also, it almost goes without saying that animated shorts is one of a handful of categories where comedy gets a little recognition amidst primarily heavy dramatic fare.

So, hopefully, this becomes a trend and keeps going and some great animated comedic shorts (as well as live action ones) that would usually find a home online will make it to a theater screen near you.

When you’ve been a comedian long enough, you likely have a catalog of material that’s taped over the years that perhaps was great, but didn’t quite fit in certain places in albums or specials. Often, those bits just get lost in the archives, but Joe DeRosa has put them together in an entire album. In fact, it was so much, that he made it into a double album.

Thus, Mistakes Were Made: The B-Sides was born and we suggest getting it from iTunes as it was just released today and enjoying it soon as you can.

For most kids with dolls, they’re at an age where the complexities of American History that is riddled with war, slavery, etc. are probably not easily understood or enjoyed. That’s probably why a 100% accurate story behind American Girl Dolls isn’t told.

Well, UCB Digital is here to fill in that missing part of the story as they showcase the full backstories of a few of dolls that “lived” vastly different lives (i.e. it’s not all smiles when class and race become involved).

The expansive board game Cones of Dunshire created by Ben Wyatt in Parks and Recreation was actually the idea from a gaming company, Mayfair Games, which, in turn, has made a real version of the game that was actually played at a gaming convention.

Currently, that’s the only version and time that Cones of Dunshire has officially existed outside the world of Parks and Recreation, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it popping up in the not so distant future if only to figure out how to actually play it.
