Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer to Host This Year’s Gotham Awards

The Broad City gals already have one awards show under their belt and we just hope this keeps happening.

As we said before, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer might be the perfect duo to take the awards hosting mantle from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. While they have yet to host a big, live telecast awards show like The Golden Globes or The Emmys, The Gotham Awards that they’ll be hosting this year is a good step in the right direction.

It’s been going for a quarter of a century honoring the best in independent film and will now include categories that could include Abbi and Ilana’s works.

We’ll definitely be excited to see what hijinks they got cooked up for the ceremony.

We don’t know how they do it, but Screen Junkies tap into the collective unconscious and really voice what we’re mostly all thinking when watching the various Star Wars teasers and trailers.

Jon Stewart Signs 4 Year Web Content/First Look Deal with HBO

Rejoice as this means John Oliver and Jon Stewart are going to be on the same network again.

So, HBO has snatched up Jon Stewart to produced web videos for HBO platforms and then get his movie and TV projects on their desk first. This should allow the flexibility that Stewart couldn’t get at The Daily Show as well as the rest of us getting more of the Jon Stewart that we probably already miss too much.

Gregg Turkington, The Man Behind Neil Hamburger, Tells The Origin Story of Neil Hamburger

Uncategorized

As Entertainment is coming out, Gregg has decided, for the first time, to give the low down on his most notable character, Neil Hamburger.

For years, Gregg Turkington and Neil Hamburger were the same person, just in and out of character, but mention of each other by either one was virtually non-existent. Hamburger wouldn’t do interviews and Gregg really never talking about playing Neil and making a name for Neil.

Since he’s doing promotion on a movie centered on that character, he feels the need to answer any and all questions about Neil with full transparency regarding origins, intentions, death threats etc.

He answers a lot of those questions in this nterview with THR’s Seth Abramovitch.

TBS Shows Off Their New Look with New Dark Comedy Series “Search Party” Starring Alia Shawkat

November 3, 2015
Uncategorized

Starting next year, TBS will have their “very funny” branding fading off into the distance in their rear view mirror. They’ve got a new snappy logo as well a Jason Jones sitcom and a Samantha Bee hosted late night talk show on deck.

Today, they unveiled their new series, Search Party from Charles Rogers and Sarah Violet Bliss, the folks behind the brilliant Fort Tilden, starring Alia Shawkat.

Charles and Sarah have a really great sense of how to examine millennials in an honest, raw sense without making it seem that they’re just doing a two-dimensional caricature of young people, so we’re excited to see what they’ve concocted in this show with their latest batch of self-obssessives, one of which is the great John Early, looking for a friend that’s gone missing.

Get a taste of Search Party as well as a glimpse of the new TBS logo (and a sense of the new and improved TBS) in this trailer.

Dax Jordan’s Album “#1 Grandson” Dedicated to His Grandparents, Featuring His Dad on Drums Out Now

When it comes to parents and grandparents, most comedians only use them for material, often in a not so flattering light that shows why that comedian is driven to be a comedian.

However, Dax Jordan not only included his dad on his brand new album #1 Grandson, but made a dedication to his grandparents and even included a great closer in honor of them.

Dax’s dad plays drums quite well through some of Dax’s clever, punchy, puns, offering a perfect spice for them. Those sections buffer between Dax’s deeper, but still quite fun examinations into his personal issues including divorce and depression, making for a very well-rounded comedy album.

So, while the verdict may be out on your folks, you can enjoy Dax’s family by getting #1 Grandson here.

After heaps and heaps of praise at festivals, there’s a full trailer that you can and should watch now. It’ll probably change the way you view stop motion animation from now on.

Look for Anomalisa in limited release on Dec. 30th, then wider release come January 2016.

Well, of course it did.

Based on his latest scheme of having people moving furniture as a workout to ease the labor demand of a moving company, prankster grandmaster Nathan Fielder had a real book published that would offer legitimacy to such a workout plan.

The book, The Movement, was sold on Amazon and made it to being a bestseller even though it was a ghostwritten book that we’re sure plenty of people bought because they’re all in on the joke. Just think of how well Dumb Starbucks merch sold and this should come as no shock to any one.

Either way, Nathan’s “brand” of business solutions are getting so strong, as exemplified by this book, that we’re sure that people will be into them, both business owner and customer, no matter how farfetched they are.

Charlie Hebdo Victims Being Honored as Gargoyles

(via The Creators Project)

This will be a pretty neat way to remember to honor freedom of expression.

The restoration of a tower that used to be execute rebels and martyrs during the rule of Louis XVIII in the French town of La Rochelle is going to have the added accoutrement of perching stone visages of those employed at satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo that were tragically murdered in an attack earlier this year.

As gargoyles, they’ll give the tower a new significance that will hopefully encourage to speak and express freely and honors those who died for it, especially when it comes making fun of those who so many others are afraid of.

Though the Christmas ads popping up before web videos might say otherwise, it is indeed Halloween.

Thus, you’re probably getting your costumes, decorations, etc. ready for tonight. Before you get too into preparations, perhaps you should take some tips from some of comedy’s best and brightest.

Conan O’Brien’s prop master Bill Tull has some budget costume tips.

Stephen Colbert has a quick how to guide on how to carve jack-o-lanterns.

Also, Dan Harmon has advice to specifically dress like Dan Harmon if that’s something you’d be into.

While you might not have the scariest Halloween, you’ll have plenty of fun doing all of the above, screwing up pumpkins and costumes for cheap.

An entire rap album made up of cat sounds? Yeah, that sounds like a joke because it is a joke.

However, with Run The Jewels behind this whole project, they of course made an idea that El-P thought of while he was high into something that raised over $65K, much of which went to several great causes.

Take a look at a short documentary as to how all of this went down from start to finish.

From Cuba to Armenia to Qatar, Conan O’Brien is making a point of going where American comedy rarely, if ever, goes.

We’re already looking forward to the special where Conan goes to Armenia and now, we’ll also be highly anticipating the now globe trotting Conan O’Brien visiting U.S. troops stationed at Qatar next week.

It’ll be interesting to see where Conan will go with hijinks with accompanying First Lady Michelle Obama.

At this rate, anyone think O’Brien will get another show where he just visits places?

As long as we’ve gotten to see him since he moved to LA, Ahmed Bharoocha has always been a shining example of joke craftsmanship and execution.

So, anytime he’s doing a set, it’s worth your attention. Just watch his performance from Conan last night. In fact, we’ve probably seen this set dozens of times and still laugh pretty hard at it.
