Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel’s “Crash Test” Special Is Now Streaming at CC.com

Blizzard or not, you should go watch this right now.

Years ago, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel rented a giant bus and taped an entire comedy special for their live show Crash Test while driving around LA. They had anyone from Aziz Ansari to Natasha Leggero to Thomas Lennon/Robert Ben Garant to Ian Karmel and much more join them/run into them while the special was happening.

While it was only available to stream after paying for quite some time, you can now watch the whole Crash Test special over at CC.com.

So, go do that.

Kevin Smith to Shop Around Half Hour Pot Comedy “Hollyweed”

(via Variety)

We could imagine Dante and Randal types from Clerks running a pot dispensary.

Kevin Smith already has an entire 30 min. episode shot of his workplace comedy set at a pot dispensary, Hollyweed, that could be sold as any number of things to networks or streaming services that might be interested.

Smith will no long be Silent Bob as he’ll be starring in a speaking role. Given Smith’s ventures since the first Clerks into other genres and more dramatic, and even horror, territory, it’ll be fascinating to see what Hollyweed might become and where it might land.

NBC Orders Pilots From Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones

January 23, 2016

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Sometimes, we wonder why Parks and Recreation just didn’t get spin-offs.

The Amy Poehler-produced project, written by Charlie Grandy, that has been in development at NBC, Crown Prince, and now has gotten a pilot order in addition to a pilot order of a multicam, Good Fortune, produced by Rashida Jones and written by Craig Gerard and Matt Zinman.

The shows will focus on a prince trying to  running a family business, but doing so chaotically, and a very rigid woman that starts to take the advice of a fortune teller, respectively.

In addition to Poehler and Jones, Parks and Recreation showrunner Mike Schur already has a series ordered at NBC, which gives us some hope for the revival of the network’s comedy branding this year.

Garry Shandling and Jerry Seinfield Relive Their Old Days on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

There are few guests on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee that go as far back with Jerry as Garry Shandling.

Pretty much every step of each their comedy careers was in sync from playing The Comedy Store to their own hit sitcoms. Thus, making a drive and a stroll down memory lane was pretty fantastic. This is actually one of the best episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Watch it all here.

Colin Quinn’s Back at Ribbing Police Procedurals in Teaser for “Cop Show” Season 2

For decades, various law enforcement agencies have been depicted on television taking down bad guys in, more or less the same way.

So, it only stands to reason that Colin Quinn has plenty more to parody on season two of his L Studio series Cop Show. Watch the teaser here.

Look for the season premiere on Feb. 2nd.

We all get to return to Childrens Hospital once again and see the mayhem that shows like E.R. or House couldn’t handle (mostly because Childrens Hospital heightens the tropes of a hospital drama beyond the absurd).

Don’t miss it tonight if you’re watching live TV, again, at 11PM on Adult Swim.

Dave Holmes Just Expertly Trolled a Phone Scammer

January 22, 2016
Uncategorized
dave holmes, phone scam

Scammers best beware when f*cking with comedians.

Host, writer, comedian and now, hero, Dave Holmes just tweeted his whole encounter with a very common phone scam and how he chose to scam those suckers right back in the most ‘drop-the-mic’ way possible.

Here’s Dave’s story in full that he just tweeted earlier today:

I just got targeted by the laziest, shoddiest grifters I have ever come across in my life, and boy did I enjoy it.

I was coming out of the gym, disoriented/exhausted, and there was a vm from a # in MD. I listened: THIS IS A FINAL NOTICE FROM THE IRS.

I called back, because I get stupid after a workout, and I thought: THIS MIGHT BE REAL. I should take it easy maybe. Anyway. (3/20)

A very stern person answered the phone & spoke very quickly: this is in reference to your audit in 2008. (which happened. I owed zero.) 4/20

He continued: there is a warrant for your arrest. You face five years in federal prison. We have cancelled your driver’s license. (5/20)

You owe $5273. We sent a letter to your home in October & nobody was there to receive it. But we left a slip and you never called back. 6/20

THIS TELLS US YOU ARE TRYING TO RUN AWAY. ARE YOU ABLE TO PAY THIS MONEY IN FULL TODAY? 7/20

Me: I’ll need to talk to my tax preparer (who they’re supposed to contact first anyway). (Also, everything else about this is wrong.) 8/20

They said they were going to put me on hold, and then hung up on me. But I had their #, a 20-minute drive ahead of me, and I do improv. 9/20

I called back in tears. “I was on the phone with one of your agents, and I got disconnected, and I CANNOT GO TO PRISON. PLEASE HELP.” 10/20

“I HAVE MY CREDIT CARD OUT, BUT MY HANDS ARE SHAKING TOO TERRIBLY FOR ME TO READ IT. WHAT DO I DO? PLEASE HELP ME.” 11/20

The agent on the phone (a man with a very thick Indian accent whose name was “Officer Eric Johnson”) said he could not take my card #. ?/?

THEN WHAT AM I TO DO, OFFICER JOHNSON? IF I OWE MONEY, I WANT TO MAKE IT RIGHT IMMEDIATELY. I CANNOT GO TO PRISON. I CANNOT.

I HAVE A FAMILY. I HAVE A JOB. AM I GOING TO BE PULLED OVER AND ARRESTED? Officer Johnson revealed that this was a strong possibility.

What the IRS needed me to do was this: go to a bank and withdraw $5300 in cash. And stay on the phone with them while I did it.

I agreed. I said (still crying) that I was a five-minute drive from a bank with a drive-thru ATM but that I was driving as fast as I could.

We stayed on the line together for that whole five minute drive, me and Officer Johnson. I asked how long he’d been at the IRS. 8 years!

I asked what he did before that, and how he likes the IRS gig. He said: “MR HOLMES I AM BUSY DOING YOUR PAPERWORK.” I said: Jeez, of course.

I told him I was pulling up to the ATM to withdraw the money, and he said: YOU CAN’T WITHDRAW THAT MUCH FROM AN ATM. YOU HAVE TO GO IN.

(I’m going to be honest with you here: that was news to me, but it makes sense now that I think about it.)

So I pretended to go into the bank (opened/closed my car door, improvised the whole transaction with a teller voice, THANK YOU! the whole 9)

I returned to the car, and I said: “Officer Johnson, I have $5300 in a paper bag. Tell me what to do next.” He said: hold on.

He then put me on hold, during which I would imagine there was a 30-second shitty grifter office party.

I was then transferred to his boss, an agent with the same accent who identified herself only as “Officer Debbie.”

Officer Debbie told me I needed to go to a Bank of America and deposit the cash into an account whose number they would give me.

I said: Officer Debbie, isn’t it great to be alive in a time when all of this is so easy and intuitive? She agreed that it is.

Officer Debbie then put me on hold, and a bunch of assholes with a burner phone reenacted this performance probably: https://t.co/Yc4MtmSZJQ

I was then transferred to a guy who announced himself simply as “Agent Paul.” Agent Paul was going to give me the account info.

I said: fire away. He gave me an account and routing numbers into which to deposit my money. The name on the account: JACK MILTON.

I said: I’ll be sure to tell the teller it’s for the IRS, so that he or she is extra careful with the numbers and whatnot.

He said: you are not allowed to do that. This is a federal case, and talking about it is illegal. I said: that makes perfect sense.

I said: I want to make sure we don’t get disconnected, so here’s what I’m going to do.

I’m going to keep the Bluetooth connected, leave the phone in the car, and keep the car running in the parking lot while I do this.

Agent Paul said: I don’t think you should do that. I said: Bluetooth gets weird though. He couldn’t really argue with that.

So I thanked Agent Paul, told him how crisp and professional Officers Johnson and Debbie had been, and went into the bank to transact.

Opened/closed the car door, thought long and hard about a car-theft plot twist with all new characters, but my destination was close.

Opened/closed the door again (I am driving during this, btw) and said: I’ve done it. I have my receipt. May I read it to you?

Agent Paul, said, with palpable enthusiasm and relief: You DID? And no, I don’t need to read what’s on the receipt.

And then I passed my destination and decided to circle it for a minute. I said: please let me read it to you.

It says: this is the worst, sloppiest, saddest attempt at a con I have ever experienced, and you should be ashamed.

You are BAD AT GRIFTING, and you should STOP IT.

I hope you never get another good night’s sleep, not because you are bad, but because you are TERRIBLE AT BEING A CON ARTIST, and

…somewhere out there, someone better is going to con YOU, and you’re too dumb to see it coming. GO. FUCK. YOURSELF.

Agent Paul, I swear to God, said: “Please accept my apologies,” and hung up the phone.

And I’ve thought about it, and I don’t accept his apologies.

You can reach Agent Paul and Officers Johnson and Debbie at 240-523-3767.

The more time they spend with you, the less time they have to find the one poor shnook who would fall for this and hand over his savings.

Anyway, I’m off to the bank to report this account and routing number. Be good to each other, my friends.

So, you should probably follow @DaveHolmes on Twitter.

Derek Zoolander Answers 73 Questions While Giving a Tour of His Apartment to Vogue

Vogue Magazine did their 73 Questions web series with one of the most really, really, ridiculously good looking people on the planet, Derek Zoolander.

Derek was gracious enough to let Vogue (and the rest of us technically) tour his lavish apartment, which features “not that much” exercise equipment amongst other ludicrous features, during the interview.

It’s almost like it’s right out of Zoolander 2.

This is the election coverage we both kind of need and deserve.

Thanks to Funny or Die and the existence of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog from the mind of Robert Smigel and the platform of Late Night with Conan O’Brien/Conan, there will be a comedy special covering the 2016 presidential race hosted by Triumph.

Let your mind run wild with how great and off-the-rails that will go.

The special will be called Triumph’s Election Special 2016 and will steam on Hulu starting next month.

We can only imagine what Smig– cough– Triumph has to say about his name being really close to Trump’s.

HBO Orders Pete Holmes’ “Crashing” to Series, Executive Produced by Judd Apatow

(via Deadline)

HBO isn’t going without a Judd Apatow-produced series on their line-up.

Pete Holmes will indeed be returning to TV, this time with a single camera comedy based on his life rather than a talk show. Crashing will follow the portion of his life following his divorce where he crashed on comedians’ couches around NYC. Fans of Holmes’ podcast You Made It Weird should be more than familiar with the subject.

Holmes created the show and will star and Judd Apatow directed the pilot and is on board as an executive producer.

This counts as three series that Judd will be overseeing this year, the other ones being the upcoming Love at Netflix and Girls, which will be coming to a close in the not so distant future.

Both are on at 10PM tonight.

If you’re still watching TV live, then you’ll need to fire up your DVR to record the series premiere of Baskets on FX or the season six premiere of Portlandia on IFC.

We know trying to pick between Zach Galifianakis as an overly serious clown and Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein up to their hijinks can be a hard choice, which is why you might watch this on some streaming service later. In case you don’t, block out 10PM tonight.

The sketches on Conan continue to be some of the boldest, most absurd, and daring in late night.

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash Are Writing a Slasher Comedy “Dead Mall”

(via Deadline)

From the looks of it, if you loved The Final Girls, you’ll probably love this too.

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash who have gained notoriety as writers for their grounded dramedy and heartfelt coming-of-age stories are taking a leap into a whole other genre with their latest project that they’re writing and directing, “Dead Mall”.

Like The Final Girls, there will be a certain sense of slasher film self-awareness by the group trying to escape a slasher film killer, but this time, they’re at an abandoned mall.

We can’t wait to see what Faxon and Rash come up with, especially given how much of a departure this is from their previous work, save for Rash being on Community.

Jo Firestone is the bathroom attendant you never knew you needed.

NYC’s wondrous Jo Firestone shows that the new dynamics of the modern workforce have reached further you’re probably aware of. While certainly there are self-starters in the world of retail, online entertainment, and more, bathroom attending is yet another industry that you’ll apparently have to just do it to get anywhere with it.

Watch Firestone do just that in the new Video Frogs video at IFC.

It wouldn’t be a proper Zach Galifianakis late night appearance without doing some sort of bit, right? Right.

So, Zach chose to go with a pretty trailblazing choice of eyebrows while talking about his new FX series Baskets. The results makes us think that maintaining eyebrow composure is key to not breaking character.

Tracy Morgan Shows That He’s Back in Full Non-Sequitur Form

It would seem Tracy Morgan has made a full recovery after being involved in terrifying car crash.

On last night’s Tonight Show, Morgan went to his comedic well with claiming to date people that he hasn’t dated and making loud non-sensical proclamations.

That being said, Morgan did have a brief moment of personal vulnerability when talking about how his daughter and wife brought him back from a coma.
