Soon, You Might Just Get to Watch BoJack Horseman, Transparent, Casual, Veep, Baskets, Bob’s Burgers,  Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and More All Through the Same Set Top Box

(via Deadline)

If FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s proposal goes through, you won’t have to have different set ups for your streaming services and your cable subscriptions.

Wheeler is pushing for cable and satellite TV providers to no longer have a vise grip on those cable and satellite set top boxes so independent manufacturers can make set top boxes that allow you access to the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon alongside watching live television.

This was bound to happen at some point and we’re glad to see that there’s some initiative on Wheeler’s part to make watching TV from your TV and from the Internet equally accessible.

Like the headlines suggests, you’ll be able to watch all the award winning comedy from the reaches of HBO, FX, and The CW as well as those from Netflix and Amazon.

If you thought TV has been shaken up already, this move might be the biggest shake yet.

Watch Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel Host a “Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show Show”

Uncategorized

Many are geared up for a The Super Bowl while others are geared up for the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Us personally, we’re pretty psyched for Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel doing a ‘half time show show’ web series that’s way before the actual half time show. The Pepsi Halftime Show Show not only has Scheer and Huebel letting their trademark chaos reign, but also has, in these first two episodes, Andy Juett and Tim Kalpakis joining in on the fun.

Anyone taking odds on whether these will be funnier than any of the Super Bowl ads? We might bet that they indeed are.

Zach Galifianakis stopped by Conan last night and gave a life update of sorts as only he can. Specifically, he talked about weight loss resulting in doing fat jokes about other people and his parenting style, which probably isn’t in any books on how to raise kids.

Todd Solondz’s “Weiner-Dog” To Be Released by Amazon

(via Variety)

Let it be known that this is the year that streaming services are really putting their money down for festival films.

Last year, you hardly heard of Netflix and Amazon being the big buyers of something like Dope or Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl. This year, it’s a much different story. Streaming services are right up there at Sundance with the studios in bidding wars and getting some of the more high profile movies on the line-up.

Todd Solondz’s comedy, Weiner-Dog, that follows the lives changed by a dachshund and features Greta Gerwig got nabbed up by Amazon, but will be getting a theatrical release as well. The option between theatrical and home viewing will be nice considering Solondz’s niche, but loyal fan base from his other work like Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness.

This is probably just the start of Amazon’s shopping spree for festival films.

Mission Conan Marks Another Great Trip Special for Conan

At this point, It should not really come as a surprise that Conan O’Brien going overseas to remote places makes for really great television. Cuba, Armenia, and Mission Conan to the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar for the troops have all really showcased O’Brien and his show’s versatility in the still early, formative stages of this new era of late night.

Whether it be working with military dogs…

…or just doing hosting a live show…

…or ribbing the troops just right…

…or giving EOD a try…

…or having Conan writers Brian Kiley and Laurie Kilmartin do stand-up…

…as well as John Mulaney and Grace Potter perform all the way over in Qatar…

…Conan makes a great case for way more of this to be ordered by TBS.

Even when, he couldn’t get a camera in the plane with First Lady Michelle Obama, the show cooked up something pretty great.

“Morris From America” and “Tallulah” Already Bought Up at Sundance

Coming of age and dramedies are still going strong at Sundance.

Two of the first buys for comedy come from A24 and Netflix of Morris From America and Tallulah, respectively.

Morris From America, directed by Chad Hartigan, follows Markees Christmas (yes, the one from Channel 101′s Markees Saves) and Craig Robinson being transplanted to Germany and having to deal with adolescence overseas.

Tallulah from Sian Heder, which Netflix acquired the rights to before Sundance began, follows Ellen Page taking a baby from a bad mother.

While this sounds like in the ball park of last year’s Sundance fare, we hope that their fates in the box office, when released, are much different (i.e. better).

Run The Jewels’ Latest Music Video for Their “Meow The Jewels” Gives the Internet More Cats Than It Might Be Able to Handle

Not only did Run The Jewels redid an entire album out of cat sounds as a joke that became a real thing, but they have been making cat videos to go appropriately with it.

As a result, the music video by Cyriak for the track Meowpurrdy has put a new hellish spin on a cat video that’s not the average mid-day emotional-pick-me-up video where a cat is super cute.

In fact, the Internet might not be even ready for this many cats or cat monsters in general.

Steve Agee Has Already Written a Sequel to “Steve Agee’s Weekend Dracula”

Keep in mind that this is all based off a joke on how Steve Agee said goodbye at a party once.

There has been no production of the script for Steve Agee’s Weekend Dracula, which tells the tale of how Steve Agee is a Dracula on the weekends and the weekends only. Yet, Steve Agee has already penned Steve Agee’s Weekend Dracula II.

Again, this all stems from a joke between Steve, Paul F. Tompkins, and Mark McConville and might very well turn into an entire series or feature length script of brilliantly silly comedy if Steve keeps it up.

Read Steve Agee’s Weekend Dracula II here.

Mitch Hurwitz Plays an Ob-Gyn, That Seems Straight Out of Arrested Development, on New Season of Portlandia

Go figure. The guy who created Arrested Development knows how to play a character that would totally fit in the world of Arrested Development on screen.

As we’re all accustomed to now, Portlandia has a bunch of great guest stars every season. This time around, Mitch Hurwitz is one of them and he’s playing an overly wise-cracking Ob-Gyn, much to the dismay of Carrie Brownstein. It almost gets you thinking of how close the universes of Portlandia and Arrested Development are tone-wise.

Watch it here.

Five years ago, who would have guessed that this headline would ever be a real thing or even be able to think it up?

Woody Allen’s foray into the world of streaming services is indeed going forward with his half-hour comedy that has got a six-episode order from Amazon. The addition of Elaine May, from the renowned comedy duo Nichols and May, and Miley Cyrus to the cast, alongside himself, further peaks our curiosity as to what Allen’s up to.

If he can see the great performance that he drew out of Andrew Dice Clay in Blue Jasmine, we’re intrigued to see what Allen will not only do with a TV series in 2016, but do so with this particular cast.

Larry David to Host SNL on Feb. 6th

We’ll see you on February 6. We invited Larry David and @the1975, too. Hope that’s okay. #SNL pic.twitter.com/hAZOYtdz3x

Considering how up in the air future seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm are, this is pretty, pretty, pretty good news.

Also, note that The 1975 is a band and not denoting the year that SNL started/when Larry David was 17.

The Producer’s Guild of America seems to have a good beat on the last year of film and television.

The winners of this year’s PGA Awards were announced last night and among the winners were Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld, Inside Out, Transparent, and The Big Short.

All are heavy favorites this awards season, especially when it comes to comedy and it would seem that these awards probably have sparked the least amount of controversy this awards season.

Chris Rock Is Still Hosting This Year’s Oscars

(via Variety)

In fact, he’s rewriting a bunch of the show after all the controversy over the last week.

The #OscarsSoWhite topic has been hotly trending all over social media and some have called for Chris Rock to step down as host of The Oscars as a stand against the lack of diversity within The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

However, Rock recently confirmed that he is definitely sticking around as host and won’t be wasting the opportunity to take it to whoever he chooses. The Academy has stated that they are actually backing whatever he’s going to do. In addition to the plan to introduce more diversity, this second vote of confidence in Rock is a good start for change to The Oscars.
