Conan Aims To Do Many More Trip Shows and Wants To Be the ‘Anthony Bourdain of Comedy’

January 31, 2016
Uncategorized
anthony bourdain, conan, conan o'brien, travel show

After his latest trip abroad along with his show, Conan O’Brien fielded questions from his studio audience, which largely focused on where he was going next.

From the looks of it, Conan enjoys stepping away from the desk and going across the globe as much as we do and aims to do these special travel episodes of Conan far into the foreseeable future.

Honestly, the idea of an Anthony Bourdain of comedy is good enough for a spin off as far as we’re concerned, if Conan can fit it into his schedule.

Orange Is The New Black Wins Big at SAG Awards

Of the three wins for comedy at The SAG Awards this year, two went to Orange Is The New Black.

Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor did take home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. Yet, Uzo Aduba nabbed Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series and the whole cast of Orange Is The New Black took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Take note how both series stream exclusively online and beat out all linear TV comedy series.

Louis C.K. Has Just Released a New Web Series “Horace and Pete” on His Website

Uncategorized

Well, this might make up for not knowing when the next season of Louie is coming around.

Big names seem to be into dropping their new projects with no promotion whatsoever. Louis C.K.’s latest ‘brand new thing’, as he e-mail sent this morning was labeled, had a link to a new web series Horace and Pete that follows C.K. and Steve Buscemi running a bar together.

According to Gothamist, Alan Alda, Kurt Metzger, Jessica Lange, Steven Wright, Nick DiPaolo, Rebecca Hall, Edie Falco, and Aidy Bryant all co-star in this first episode.

It’s $5 to buy just this first episode, but it is over an hour long and is essentially premiering on LouisCK.net. We’re guessing that you’ll cough that up, especially since it’s unsure when the next project, whether it be a show or stand-up special, with C.K. in it will come about (save for his role in The Secret Life of Pets).

Lorne Michaels Biography Is in the Works

(via NY Times)

No matter how you feel about SNL these days, Lorne Michaels changed comedy forever and definitely needs a book written just about him.

While there are plenty of books that give the back story and ins and outs of SNL, there isn’t really a proper, in-depth biography of Michaels who not only is the driving force behind SNL, but also Kids in the Hall, Late Night, and more as well as an entire generation of comedy whose effects will be felt for many years to come.

A biography on Lorne Michaels has finally been set to be written by The New Yorker’s Susan Morrison and published by Random House.

Whenever it comes out, we’re sure it’ll feature plenty of stories that have yet to be told in full on comedy podcasts.

“Masterminds” Is Set for Sept. 30th Release While Relativity Media Is Still Working on Coming Back from Bankruptcy

January 30, 2016
Uncategorized

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

So, at least we’ll get a chance to see Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig rob an armored car.

When Relativity Media went spiraling out of control last year, the fate of the heist comedy Masterminds starring Galifianakis and Wiig was unsure and the release date went from being pushed back a few months to being postponed indefinitely.

The dust is starting to settle after Relativity filed for Chapter 11, pending some objections from specific creditors, and their slate of films are getting back on track. Specifically, Masterminds is now set for a release on Sept. 30th, which is well over a year after it was initially supposed to come out.

At the very least, if everything goes according to plan, that means we get both Baskets and Masterminds from Galifianakis this year.

It could be a hardened cockney accent…

…or one that is quite refined sounding and it still sounds like there’s good grounds to ban Trump from the UK.

Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Margot Robbie should make for a pretty special episode of The Late Show after this year’s Super Bowl. We mean, that’s in addition to whatever ultra clever stuff Colbert has up his sleeve on his own.

Oh yeah, you should check out what Stephen is up to at The Late Show these days. It’s pretty great and showcases how many gears, both comedic and emphatic, Colbert can shift in and out of even though he’s not in character.

comedy shows, los angeles, maps, open mics

For years, we’ve had these two maps embedded at The Comedy Bureau that were supposed to show the locations of comedy shows and open mics in LA. For reasons that mostly have to do with one person running this whole operation for years, those maps were unfortunately never updated until now.

Thanks to the great Shahruz Shaukat, The LA Comedy Show Map and LA Open Mic Map show all the shows and mics for the current day as well as give all the details that you would need to go out and see or do comedy here in LA.

It really makes finding live comedy so much easier to the point where we hope you have ran out of excuses to go see it.

Carol Burnett Shows Why She’s a Living Comedy Legend on Conan

Carol Burnett has such an illustrious comedy career for several decades. Any collection of stories from any of those years will give you proof of just how illustrious and great that career really was and why Burnett is revered as she is (getting a Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award this weekend for example).

On last night’s Conan, her particular collection of stories focused on how she learned her own stunts, her obsession with soap operas, and how she handled bombing on stage.

She could start her own podcast with all of the stories she has.

Natalie Palamides Brings Career Grouch and Longtime Hallmark Greeting Card Character ‘Maxine’ to Life

For those that want a sarcastic geriatric in their greeting cards, Hallmark has kept the sassy and somewhat unfiltered character Maxine going for quite some time.

In the style of a gritty real life adaptation of a comic book, Natalie Palamides and Drew Spears, who continue to keep it delightfully weird in their comedy, have brought Maxine to life and, guess what, she’s still not to jazzed about anything.

Watch nine short episodes of Maxine here.

Jenna Fischer, Rob Lowe, and Megan Mullally all in an apocalyptic comedy sounds just fine to us.

Though it has a collection of sitcom stars from NBC’s own fold, You, Me and the Apocalypse has already premiered on the UK’s Sky 1 and is only making its way to the States starting tonight.

Watch a first look featurette here, then catch the premiere at 8PM on NBC.
