Netflix Announces Dates for Patton Oswalt and Jimmy Carr Comedy Specials

January 19, 2016

(via The A.V. Club)

So, as far as comedy specials/mini-series go, Netflix will have had Tom Segura, Hannibal Buress, Patton Oswalt, Chelsea Handler, and the UK’s Jimmy Carr in just the first few months of 2016.

Jimmy Carr: Funny Business is set to stream starting Mar. 18th and Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping will stream starting on Apr. 22nd all on Netflix.

This output on top of the already announced Hannibal Buress special Comedy Camisado that’s due next month and Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Does It mini-series that’s coming this Friday makes for an output of comedy specials that almost rival anyone who puts out hour long comedy specials.

Moses Storm’s NextComedic Art Installation Will Be The “INTERSECTION / OF / THE / FUTURE”

You’ve seen Moses Storm throw the chillest birthday and then Kickstart a “living performance art space” for a whole month.

Now, he’s set to revolutionize something else that is also a departure from his previous work: traffic intersections.

Here’s Moses announcing INTERSECTION / OF / THE / FUTURE, which will be a real intersection that you can apparently drive by this Friday, Jan. 22nd from 10AM-2PM at 5810 Woodley Ave., Los Angeles, CA 91316.

We really don’t have any idea what Moses has planned, but the surprise is part of what’s amazing about his comedy/art.

Here’s a Full Trailer for Apatow/Rust/Arfin’s New Netflix Series “Love”

Judd Apatow’s next series after Girls, that he’s overseeing along with Paul Rust and Lesley Arfin, is coming to Netflix and seems to seems to stay in that somewhat grounded reality of questioning the old template we have for relationships and relationship dynamics.

Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs also seem like a fun pairing as well.

Watch the trailer for Love here, then look for all episodes to start streaming on Feb. 19th.

The Comedy Bureau Maps Finally Have Gotten Update

January 19, 2016
Uncategorized
comedy shows, los angeles, maps, open mics

That means they are finally worth a damn.

Since The Comedy Bureau started, we had two embedded maps for comedy shows and open mics. Being “understaffed” and all, it proved to be too much work to update along with everything else “we” update on a nearly 24/7 basis.

Well, this isn’t the case anymore.

Thanks to the kind soul, Sharuz Shaukat, both the LA Comedy Show Map and LA Open Mic Map now show the locations for all the listings for the current day/night. This way, you can, as “we” had originally intended, see on a map where all the shows and mics are and where they are in relation to each other as well as get all the details by simply clicking on the pin.

So, enjoy The LA Comedy Show Map and LA Open Mic Map in addition to the exhaustive listings we already have on The Comedy Bureau.

Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly to Play Laurel and Hardy in Upcoming “Stan & Ollie”

Coogan and Reilly does have a nice ring to it.

Jon S. Baird’s “Stan & Ollie” will follow the historic comic duo of Laurel and Hardy going on tour and Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, comedic stars in their own right, have signed on to play the pair.

We really can’t wait to see what Steve and John will look like full in costume. Our guess is that’ll it be spot on.

T.J. Miller Indeed Made It a Night to Remember at Last Night’s Critics Choice Awards

For all of those that thought T.J. Miller’s brand of chaos could really go either way as the host of the 2016 Critics Choice Awards, we hope you were watching the broadcast last night. Miller really went for it on his terms with his monologue that involved a gigantic multiple puppet contraption and all his bits in between the awards being handed out.

T.J. had a ball gown cannon (it’s exactly what it sounds like)…

…he read his worst review on stage…

…and, of course, did a Yogi Bear 3D (a film not favored well by critics) bit.

We sincerely hope this amount to many more hosting gigs for T.J.

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Picked Up for a Third Season at Netflix

Just announced, #KimmySchmidt picked up for a third round. ????

— Kimmy Schmidt (@KimmySchmidt) January 17, 2016

Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt doesn’t even start streaming until Apr. 15th and yet, probably as part of Netflix’s ever burgeoning plan of entertainment conquest, Netflix has ordered a 3rd season of the show.

This might be further proof of how little Netflix cares for the traditional TV ratings system.

This is one of those rare moments where you might want to pause whatever streaming service you’re watching and go watch some live television.

The Angie Tribeca Marathon started at 9PM yesterday and is going for 25 hours, so you still have plenty of chances to catch the entire first season today. At 10 episodes for this first season, that makes for five hours to watch the whole thing.

Tune into TBS right now before the late afternoon if you indeed want to watch all of season one.

Tracy Morgan to Star in FX Comedy Pilot Written by Jordan Peele and John Carcieri

This is a pretty great way for Tracy Morgan to make a comeback.

The latest addition to FX’s comedy development slate comes in a pilot that seems tailor made for its star Tracy Morgan. Written by Jordan Peele and Eastbound & Down’s John Carcieri, Morgan will play a recently released convict after over a decade and a half of incarceration that has to adjust to normal society.

If this gets picked up (which, on paper, it sounds like it should), we’ll be curious to see if it falls in line more with FX or FXx.

zoolander 2

The release of Zoolander 2 is just a few weeks away (specifically Feb. 12th) and we’re only bound to get more clever promotional materials coming the way of the Internet.

This cologne style teaser is only the beginning.

This 14+ min. record of Paige Weldon, Uncomfortable at Best, is evidence that there are many delightful comedians that are, in a way, hiding in plain sight in and around the gigantic LA comedy scene. You get a taste of Paige’s disarming, self-deprecating, but easy going charm and hope that a longer record is in the not so distant future.

Get Paige’s Uncomfortable at Best from Jonah Ray’s Literally Figurative imprint off of AST Records here.

The Judd Apatow/Lesley Arfin/Paul Rust series Love starring Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs coming to Netflix has our interest peaked, especially since Girls is coming to a close soon.

From the looks of these promos, those of you who fell in love with Master of None and are fans of Catastrophe, Togetherness, Transparent, and You’re The Worst, Netflix has got another romantic dramedy on their hands that you’ll probably want to check out.

All the episodes start streaming on Feb. 19th.

Also, we’re pretty sure that’s Kyle Kinane getting sucker punched at the end of the promo above.

TruTV Orders Stand-Up Contest Series “Comedy Knockout” Hosted by Damien Lemon

(via The Wrap)

Where the challenges on the earlier seasons of Last Comic Standing didn’t work, maybe they’ll work on Comedy Knockout.

TruTV rebranding as a comedy network has seemingly fared quite well for them and, as such, they’re headed further in that direction. Their latest series order is for a stand-up competition show featuring head-to-head comedy challenges.

NYC comedian Damien Lemon is set to host and a fair amount of roasting is being touted as well.

With Roast Battle’s popularity have spread beyond LA, don’t be surprised to see more of this sort of show pop up on TV more and more.
