“Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” Getting International Distribution from Entertainment One

February 26, 2016
Uncategorized
entertainment one, full frontal, samantha bee, tbs

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Looks like TBS might have found a late night companion to Conan that’ll finally stick.

Samantha Bee has only gotten a few weeks under her belt with Full Frontal, but it’s already made plenty of good headlines around the web in that short time.

So, Entertainment One has acquired the rights to distribute the show outside of North America, which is probably another good indicator that Bee might not fall to the same fate as The Pete Holmes Show and Black Box with Deon Cole before her.

Did we mention that you should be watching Full Frontal with Samantha Bee? It’s pretty great and Bee is even more unapologetic than she was on The Daily Show.

Scott Moran, the man behind the brilliant docu-series Modern Comedian, has a new mini-documentary at JASH that delves into what came after Brent Weinbach’s viral hit video Gangster Party Line.

Two years later, the video has a sort of website spin-off GangsterPartyLine.com featuring the voicemails that people would leave when calling the real number from the video.

Every once in awhile, Brent and friends like the brilliant Moshe Kasher will actually pick up and, you know, talk some shit.

Get into the doc here and give Gangster Party Line another watch or two because it definitely still holds up.

It’s not often you get to hear about a love triangle in a romantic comedy where the triangle gets reversed.

Yet, that’s what Maggie/Greta Gerwig’s plan is in Maggie’s Plan from Rebecca Miller.

The trailer promises some good, screwball fun between Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, a delightfully accented Julianne Moore, and Maya Rudolph.

Look for it in theaters soon.

Adam Pally to Star in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Fox Time Travel Comedy Pilot “Making History”

Fox is really feeling the high concept comedy vibe from Lord and Miller.

Already, Phil Lord and Chris Miller have Last Man on Earth at the network, which has proven itself a keeper for two seasons. Now, Fox is doubling down by having another pilot from the duo that mixes sci-fi and comedy, though dealing with time travel rather than what happens after the world ends.

Adam Pally will star in Making History as computer science professor that doesn’t seem to get along with family or students, but discovers time travel. He and two other friends will venture through time inevitably disrupting their lives in the present.

Oddly enough, Eliza Coupe, another Happy Endings alum, just got cast in a Hulu pilot that also deals with time travel.

We’re guessing that might give them a little more breathing room when it comes to censors.

While doing a special live edition of @midnight with Chris Hardwick down in SXSW, Hardwick, Doug Benson, Arden Myrin, and Chris Cubas will mark a first in late night by broadcasting the whole episode exclusively over live broadcasting app Periscope.

As Periscope will be essentially utilized as an over-the-top service in this instance, it’ll be fascinating to see what @midnight does with no traditional commercial breaks or specific time limits, etc. while all still be a TV show being broadcast live.

Funny or Die Hires Obama’s Former Speech Writer David Litt as Head Writer and Producer at FoD’s Washington D.C. Office

Funny or Die is getting very serious about their content in this election year.

David Litt was not only President Barack Obama’s speech writer, but acted as a lead writer at the last four of Obama’s hit White House Correspondents Association Dinner performances where people consistently were amazed of how funny Obama was (sometimes, more so than the host who is actually a comedian).

So, being one of the lead creatives in heading writing and production at Funny or Die’s Washington D.C. offices is a good move on Funny or Die’s part.

Quincy Jones (the comedian and not the legendary music producer) made his way to LA to pursue his dreams in stand-up comedy in the early 2010s. While he was grinding his way through the LA scene as hard as anyone could be, Quincy was unfortunately diagnosed with Stage Four Mesothelioma Cancer and an estimate of about a year to live.

Fortunately, before Quincy’s time runs out, he might get to see his dream come true as a crowdfunding campaign for an hour stand-up comedy special has raised over 6 times the amount of money he needs. As of this post, the campaign was looking for $4,985 and has $29,263 with 24 days to go.

The special is set to tape on Apr. 3rd and you can get more info and donate here.

Jean-Claude Van Damme to Star in Amazon Action Comedy Pilot “Jean-Claude Van Johnson”

JCVD the series?

Well, not quite.

This Amazon action comedy pilot named Jean-Claude Van Johnson for the alter-ego gun-for-hire that Van Damme would play when he’s not busy being a martial arts movie superstar. It’s not quite as meta as JCVD where Van Damme had a existential crisis during a robbery.

Still, with Peter Atencio whose work you have enjoyed on Key & Peele and Last Man on Earth, the pilot will absolutely worth checking out when Amazon releases it.

This includes a compilation of short form shows including, Great Minds with Dan Harmon, Crossroads of History, and How to Lose the Presidency, which will be called Night Class and be their latest comedy offering.

Here’s a pretty great teaser for Crossroads of History, a third of Night Class, where Josh Fadem plays Hitler in his days as an artist that never really seemed to go all that well for him.
