It’s a delight as is the rest of their RIOT web series, WOMANHOOD, at Refinery 29. Watch it here.

“Jon Glaser Loves Gear” Looks Pretty Damn Good in These Preview Clips

October 21, 2016
Uncategorized

Jon Glaser Loves Gear is set to premiere next week on Wednesday, October 26th on TruTV. Leading up to now, the show has been shrouded in a bit of mystery, especially, for how layered it is.

Jon Glaser plays himself doing a show that reviews “gear” of all shapes and sizes and categories (bikes, tactical armor, socks, GoPro cameras, etc.). That’s one level of the show. Then, Jon also has to deal with the underlying universe in which the show operates. That includes a tense relationship with his wife, having an actress play his wife on his gear review show, having a somewhat sentient smart phone voiced by John Hodgman, etc. This kind of silly chaos is Glaser’s forte.

As all of these preview clips show, Glaser pulls this very meta premise off with flying colors and we think you should make a note now to watch the premiere Jon Glaser Loves Gear next week on October 26th.

Also, the theme song is extremely catchy and will undoubtedly get stuck in your head (in a good way).

ABC Developing Sitcom Starring Carol Burnett That Amy Poehler Is Executive Producing

ABC Developing Sitcom Starring Carol Burnett That Amy Poehler Is Executive Producing

Burnett and Poelher working together on anything could almost be good to be a whole pitch for show.

Living comedy legend Carol Burnett (and for how much the term “legend” is thrown around these days in comedy, it should noted that Burnett is a legitimate comedy legend) is aiming to return to TV. This multi cam project will star her as an eccentric old actress that allows a family to live in their dream home/her house so long as they live with her until she passes. Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite Productions have been attached in the executive producing capacity, undoubtedly giving this show’s development path instantly have more heat.

At this stage, ABC has made a put pilot commitment requiring a monetary penalty if they don’t air the pilot. Given Poehler’s involvement, we are intensely curious to see how Carol Burnett will be plugged into a 21st century sitcom and if it’ll be as charming as when Burnett had her own show with her own name in the title.

With all of that said, we’re getting a kind of PG-retooling-of-the-classic-drama-Sunset-Boulevard vibe. Hopefully, that’ll prove to be a good thing.

So, as Tradition Dictates, Trump and Clinton Have to “Poke Fun” at Each Other at The Al Smith Dinner

So, as Tradition Dictates, Trump and Clinton Have to “Poke Fun” at Each Other at The Al Smith Dinner

If you thought that the line between the presidential debates and the SNL parodies of the debates this year were already more blurred than ever, this will probably reach a whole new level of life and art imitating each other.

During an election year, it’s customary tradition for the candidates to politely roast each other while only being separated by the seat of the Cardinal of New York, Timothy Dolan as part of the big charity event for children in poverty known as The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Center.

It’s a private white tie dinner being held tonight and thus you won’t get to see it on TV. Still, rest assured that you’ll probably hear about it on social media this evening. One can only imagine that Clinton will want to come off cooler than her Pokemon GO joke (and she could do so by doing any of the thousands of jokes leveled at Trump over the last couple of decades) and Trump, having already stooped to childish and grotesque behavior in the debates, will likely espouse his godawful privilege even more with some tasteless one-liners and offensive act outs.

That being said, the team at Full Frontal with Samantha Bee “got a fax from Julian Assange” that shows “Hillary’s speech/set list”.

The dry, sarcastic bent of The Onion is making an entire election special that will air on Fusion. From the looks of this preview, it’ll have the look of a normal sort of traditional news deep dive on this election, but with appropriate cursing and satire.

The Onion Presents The Iconic Images of Election 2016 is set to premiere on Friday, October 21st at 9PM on Fusion right after the Chris Cubas-1 percenter docu-special Chris Gets Money and right before a Bassem Youssef special called Muslim Invasion.

The Duplass Brothers pretty much have dramedy down pat. They know how to make great dramedy and they definitely know how and where to find it.

The Duplass Brothers Productions’ latest film is this indie dramedy from writer/director Linas Phillips, Rainbow Time. It follows the complex and tense relationship between a developmentally delayed middle aged man, his brother, and his brother’s girlfriend and does so in a way that looks heartfelt, offbeat, and cathartic, according to this trailer.

Linas plays the developmentally delayed man known as Shonzi and is joined by an impressive cast of Timm Sharp, Melanie Lynskey, and Tobin Bell.

Look for Rainbow Time in theaters on November 4th.

Hulu Developing ‘Unhinged’ from Casey Wilson & June Diane Raphael

One way or another, we will get another TV show with Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael involved.

You’ve seen Wilson and Raphael go at each other in Hot Wives and now they have teamed up along with accomplished veteran comedy writer/producer John Riggi (30 Rock, The Larry Sanders Show) to make a show following a suburban middle-aged woman, potentially played by Casey, who has had enough with society’s roles for women and opts to lash out.

Called Unhinged, it would pair up nicely with Difficult People over at Hulu.

Moshe Kasher and Natasha Leggero just got married and as recently wed comedians, they opted to make their honeymoon into a comedy tour, aptly called The Honeymoon Tour, and give relationship advice to various audience members that they were willing to talk out their problems on stage.

The advice they gave was captured by Comedy Central and put into this really great web series that captured much of the best advice they dished out, the lovely vistas they had, and even some comically, overly gratuitous PDA.

They even had America’s Funnyman Neil Hamburger renew their vows. Please watch and enjoy all eight episodes here.

The word “trippy” probably won’t be sufficient in describing whatever happens with this.

That’s right; the co-creator of Rick & Morty and one-man comedy/music extravaganza Reggie Watts will not only be going live in AltspaceVR on Wednesday, October 26th at 8PM PDT/5PM EST, but they will be doing what will probably be the most otherworldly talk show ever.

That’s all the details that have been released for now, but know that you’ll be able to watch the ‘fireside talk show’ (maybe it’ll be next to the Sun in VR?) on Samsung Gear VR, Rift & Vive, as well as your traditional desktop/laptop computer.

While it’s certainly unbelievable that there would be undecided voters in this election, they do exist.

Above Average wanted to get “their story” and see what has them so internally conflicted on choosing between Hillary and Trump.

Well, they “found” some undecided voters and made this video profile of them that really shows why they can’t decide.

HarmonQuest Renewed for Season 2 at Seeso and Has “Uncovered” 38 Lost Scenes

Seeso, wisely we think, is staying their course of as-off-beat-as-can-be comedy programming.

Just announced today, HarmonQuest, where Dan Harmon and friends play their own humorous fantasy role playing game, just got picked up for a second season at NBC’s comedy exclusive streaming service, Seeso, for next year. On top of that, 38 additional scenes from season 1 will be coming in soon on November 3rd.

If you’re still waiting for Seeso to have enough to pay $3.99 a month for it, it’s clear that it probably surpassed that awhile ago.

Doug Benson deciding on court cases was probably as much as had to be pitched for this to get sold, right?

In the beginning of next year, The High Court will be a 15 minute “strip series” on Comedy Central where one Doug Benson will preside over real small claims court cases and, of course, get high to decide on which side wins.

We’re sure along with his decision, there will be plenty of Benson Interruption style banter during all the trials.

The plot of a father enacting an alter-ego in order to spend some more time with his daughter sounds like something Arrested Development would do. Yet, German comedy Toni Erdmann from director writer/director Maren Ade follows that premise in a much more grounded, but seemingly still funny way.

You can see that for yourself in the trailer for Toni Erdmann, then look for it in theaters here in the States around Christmas time thanks to Sony Pictures Classics.

Jay Larson Expertly Shows the Comedic Beauty of Life in His New Album “Human Math”

One of the most famous quotes and takeaways from the 1986 comedy classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”

That maxim is self-evident through every bit of Jay Larson’s comedy and it’s all the better for it. In his latest album Human Math off of AST Records, Larson paints these very grounded, but detailed portraits either from his observations or from his own life that draw out the overlooked humor that only someone living life truly to the fullest would notice. From helping a blind man to picking new friends just from their name, it’s the best glimpse into Larson’s bright, colorful vision of the real world yet.

With that being said, you can (and should) get Human Math off on iTunes now here.

CBS Developing Comedy Based on ‘Totally Laime’ from Elizabeth Laime and Tami Sagher

Podcasts continue to not only stick around, but are getting mined more and more for TV adaptations.

Elizabeth Laime has built a mini-podcast empire from The Totally Laime podcast and has now gotten to the much coveted next level with developing a show based on her audio dispatches.

Tami Sagher, who you probably saw in Don’t Think Twice this summer, will be writing the project with her and we can only hope that this makes far in the development process to offer some more contrast considering CBS’ new comedy line-up this fall is heavy on white male leads that have to put up with annoying millennials in Kevin Can Wait, The Great Indoors, and Man With a Plan.
