Two of the most critically acclaimed absurdist comedians in the world, Dr. Brown and Sam Simmons, join up together again to do one of their most absurd shows, Ceremony at Silverlake’s Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe.

Rather than try to explain how the show might be a postmodern dissection of the Western notion of what ‘ceremony’ is, means, and enacted, we’ll just tell you that Ceremony is damn funny and has a advisory warning of containing nudity.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Get your advance tickets here.

The show that has comedians following the most heart wrenching videos on the Internet is back.

Follow That! really does play a video that is almost perfectly designed to make you cry and has stand-up comedians see what they can do immediately afterwards.

It may sound cruel and unusual, but, as far as we have seen thus far, it has been a hell of a good time.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at door. Get your advance tickets here.

Josh Fadem and Brent Weinbach, two comedians that are mastered in the art of being silly, will “lead” a “forum” on art. We’re not sure exactly how that’ll manifest, but we’re excited for whatever that will end up being.

Also, Ron Funches and Dan Mintz from Bob’s Burgers are just a few of their guests.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Esteemed members of The Pack Theater pondered what it would be like if the beloved cartoon franchise Yogi Bear got the grim live action treatment.

They pondered so much that they came up with an actual screenplay called Jellystone and staged a live reading of their Yogi Bear movie that got so dark it became silly again.

They’re doing another live reading this Friday, July 7th at 9PM at The Pack Theater and you really ought to catch it before, perhaps, it actually gets made into a movie (or a faux trailer for a movie).

Admission is pay what you can and you can get more details here.

For this 3 year milestone, voice acting legend Maurice LeMarche and the amazing Debra DiGiovanni will be joining in as their special guests.

comedy special, netflix, stand up, the standups

In addition to the fireworks, hot dogs, and general stars, stripes, red, white and blue themes today, Netflix has a whole batch of half hour stand-up specials now streaming for you to enjoy under the series banner The Standups.

Nikki Glaser, Nate Bargatze, Beth Stelling, Deon Cole, Fortune Feimster, and Dan Soder all recorded a half hour stand-up special a few months ago in DTLA and they’re definitely worth your time.

Again, as there is no cutting away for a commercial break, there ought to be a much better arc and flow in these than what you’re probably used to seeing on TV over the years.

Arguments and Grievances, the comedy debate podcast, is a great reminder that free speech in America allows for us to have heated discourse over such “essential” topics like “you’re crazy” vs. “no, you’re crazy” or 420 vs. 69.

Their latest show in LA will be free and at one of our favorite venues, The Virgil at the end of this month.

If you’re anti-Trump, you ought to know that one of the groups leading the charge is the Democratic Socialists of America.

The DSA is a volunteer activist organization that does a bunch of good shit around town like drive low-income women to abortion clinics, confront politicians who are cool with families being destroyed by deportation, or fight to get our City Council to stop investing money with banks that fund the Dakota Access Pipeline.

They’re throwing a comedy show fundraiser for their LA chapter and they’ve rustled up a damn fine line-up.

You can come watch the show at Nerdmelt in the back room of Meltdown Comics and they’re just asking for a $20 suggested donation. Get more details here.

Starting next week on June 28th, Boobie Trap will start its weekly run at King King every Wednesday. You can get tickets in advance for $17 and at the door for $25.
