Casey Feigh and Dan Gregor Give a Very Modern Day Twist to Birth of Christ in “Mother Mary” Starring Betsy Sodaro

UCB Digital’s latest and greatest web series Mother Mary comes from Casey Feigh and Dan Gregor and puts a very 21st century, more feminist twist on the story of the birth of Christ.

Betsy Sodaro, as you’ll notice, is pretty fantastic as a “give-no-f*cks” type of Mary.

Just a Friendly Reminder About Our Open Submission Policy

album, book, comedy bureau, comedy show, los angeles, movie, podcast, sketch, submissions, web series

At The Comedy Bureau, we always strive to highlight great comedy that might not get seen by a good number of people otherwise.

Thus, we’re always open to having stuff sent to us whether it be a sketch, web series, podcast, short film, live show, book, movie, album, TV show, essay, art installation, festival, etc. etc. for consideration to be featured at the site like we did for Derek Sheen’s fantastic album Tiny Idiot.

NOTE: we are still solely based in LA as of this time. So, live show listings/coverage tends to skew towards the Greater Los Angeles Area. However, we’re still game for big, one-off, and/or annual events like festivals, tours, and the like around the country such as Bridgetown or even the world (Eddie Izzard’s Force Majeure, Comedy Central International Festival, Edinburgh Fringe)

Please send all submissions to thecomedybureau@gmail.com. Apologies in advance if it takes us awhile to get back to you as our staff is on the small-but-mighty side.

Mutli-hyphenate comedian Kristen Studard has made this great, trippy, and very personal web series Kristen Does Her Best. It shows her making the very well known struggle of making it in LA, but Kristen’s imagination takes it to a whole other great and weird place.

Watch all five episodes in full, together as a pilot of sorts (we’d recommend that) or watch them separately: one, two, three, four, and five.

Watch IFC’s “Boy Band”, the Darkest Satirical Boy Band Reality Show Parody in Recent Memory

As the boy band formula continues to be successful throughout the decades, there has been parodies of boy bands right there following along. You might remember Conan’s Dudez-a-Plenti or MTV’s 2Ge+her as some of notable examples.

In 2016, Brett Davis of the subversive, meta, absurdist talk show, The Special Without Brett Davis, writes and stars in a new, similarly toned boy band parody in the IFC web series simply called Boy Band.

NYC comedy folks including Anna Drezen, Jo Firestone, Ana Fabrega, Julio Torres (who also co-wrote a good deal of the series), John Early, and more round out a great cast.

There are six episodes in total and you might not look at boy bands, or any reality show endeavor for that matter, the same way afterwards.

Or, if you have a pretty dark view on the music industry, maybe this would just redouble your feelings about the whole boy band model.

Either way, you should watch the whole series here.

Dan Soder and Michelle Wolf playing broken people to just happen to sell used cars (maybe the two go hand-in-hand?) make for Comedy Central’s latest web series you should be watching, Used People.

The first three episodes are now up for you to watch on YouTube and also feature great supporting and featuring roles from Nick DiPaolo, Anthony Atamanuik, Bridget Everett, and Chris DiStefano.

After watching, perhaps you’ll feel a little more sympathy when going to a used car dealership (or maybe just feel even more wary?).

We know it’s only March, but Hannah Utt and Jen Tullock’s web series Disengaged, streaming at Super Deluxe, is already on our short list for one of our favorite things that we’ve come across this year.

Disengaged follows Utt and Tullock as a lesbian couple who rush getting married after DOMA is struck down. The whirlwind of events that follow are simultaneously so organic, grounded, timely, and damn hysterical.

The pilot was released late last year, but the next four episodes of season 1 are all streaming right now.

Want to have your comedy web series, video, short film, podcast, album, special, book, audio book, essay, stand-up, improv, sketch, play, variety show etc. featured and/or listed at The Comedy Bureau?

Well, just send us your stuff at thecomedybureau@gmail.com for consideration! If we dig it, we’ll post about it or list it. We love discovering new folks, troupes, and more, so don’t feel intimidated in ever sending anything in.

Three things:

1) For now, we’re based in LA, so if you’re submitting a show for listing, please have it been within the Greater LA area. Otherwise, we’ll take in anything else to be potentially featured from anywhere else in the world.

2) Do keep in mind that we’re short staffed, so keep your submissions brief (i.e. don’t send EPK or extensive bios/descriptions) so we can get through submissions as quickly as possible.

3) Please submit recent work only i.e. anything that’s been posted or released from beyond two weeks of your submission. We like keep things fresh at the Bureau.

Daniel Van Kirk Writing Digital Sketch Series “Attention Deficit Theater” Starring and Produced by Jaime King for The CW Seed

(via Deadline)

The series is created by John Montgomery and is apparently not just using “attention deficit theater” as a cool name.

The CW has been on a hot streak with comedy with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. We’re glad to see that they’re bringing that streak to their digital platform, CW Seed with a new comedy web series actually focusing on the ins and outs of attention deficit disorder with the likes of Jaime King at the forefront.

We’re excited to know that Dan Van Kirk, who we’d hope you would know from so many great Earwolf podcasts, his stellar Mark Wahlberg impression, etc., will be writing the 10 episodes of the sketch series that have been ordered.

When this drops early next year, this will definitely be worth checking out.

By the way, it premieres tomorrow Smart Girls just in case you’re getting to excited over this.

When having roommates, having ground rules for each other’s personal boundaries goes without saying. Well, the actual ground rules are said, but the idea of having them is pretty much common law.

With that being said, people like Greg Barris and Bridey Elliott in their web series Roommates have some rules that most folks probably don’t have to go through because they’re probably relatively normal/well-adjusted/same age/gender.
